It's usually always for the indicators. Most bulb failure warnings are from continuity so still work with leds. Modern cars don't use a relay for the flashing like back in the day so you have to add a resistor instead of just replacing the relay
Can some of you both maybe tell me which resistor I have to use for my Mitsubishi Lancer 140 PS, Gas powered? I wanna put my LED blinkers in the head lights.
I used to run a truck accessory shop - Keep the stock tail lights. You will need them when these fail next year :) When one light fails on these - you replace the entire tail light assembly... that will likely no longer exist.
When I got my car brand new a couple years ago I replaced every single bulb with LEDs. Running lights, tag lights, turn signals, interior/cargo lights.. Within 3 months every single one failed or began to flicker. Even tried major brands like Philips and they quickly failed.
I’d love to see a series of you modding the Tundra. It’s the little upgrades that matter, and the sequential signal looks great! Congrats on the new truck!
the little black box that you fit behind the light unit is called a Canbus Error Canceller unit its used on LED's to tell the vehicle that you are running 5watts over the stock 35watts output voltage otherwise you get warning bulb out message on the dash cluster if not fit
The resistor works for both taillights because there is a flasher relay under the dash, thats what makes the clicking noise, so in a way they are connected. They also make relays for LEDs so you wouldnt need the resisors.
One tip for the exterior bolts, replace them as soon as you can with similar galvanized ones. I didn't on my old truck and when I had to fix the light bulb in the brakes I pretty much had to bust the whole thing to break it open and get the bolts free. A real pain in the ass I wasn't expecting just to change one stupid bulb.
Great choice on a 2nd gen Tundra! My dad had a 2012 and currently has a 2020 TRD Pro Tundra. He does all of his own maintenance and has never had any major issues with either of them. The alternator on the 5.7 engine is hard to reach though, so if you ever need to replace the alternator it's not fun, but besides that you will love the Tundra. Don't ever buy the twin-turbo V6 model though because the engines on those are garbage.
Lights look great! Congrats on the truck! I have a 2018 crewmax tundra. Love it! Doing the Headlights isn’t the worst in the world, but definitely way more than you’d ever think lmao but once they are done what a difference it makes! Me-So customs offers a lot of stuff as well as AJT designs. I’ve used both and love the quality. One of my favorite things I’ve done to my truck is installing seat jackers for the front seats! Gives a little extra tilt to the seats, and a little extra support under your knees. Can’t wait to see some more man!
Be careful with the aftermarket third brake lights, they don't always have a great seal and can make a water leak in your headliner. Headliners are expensive 😅
If you had the roll down rear glass it would be much easier to swap out that 3rd brake light. You can just slide in and slide out as needed. With that mini sliding glass I’m sure you had to get out of the bed and into the back seat a few times
Id love to see a truck upgrade series, and you do need those load resistors, LEDs draw less power than halogen, therefore the truck thinks the bulbs out and so it hyperflashes, and I completely agree with you with what you said at the beginning of the video about how it's a 2018 and still using halogen, makes zero sense of why still a lot of car companies are using halogen bulbs
The resistor is needed to make the computer think there is an incandescent bulb in it based on power draw. Put in both, and when you change out the headlights, they may come with them installed already or you may need to install them for the fronts as well.
You should get the factory led headlights. Its hard to beat oem in terms of reliability and you can still use the factory beam adjuster thats on the dash.
I don’t remember what it’s called but that black box basically tricks your cars ecu into thinking that your lights are pulling the correct amount of wattage from your battery, since leds use less energy than halogens, so that it doesn’t throw a cel or similar warning signal telling you your break lights or head light are out. I thought most led conversions now a days built it into the housing for the bulb itself but I guess not
The resistor is for when the trucks headlights are on. The rear running lights and the turn signal use the same "bulbs." So that's why you couldn't duplicate the issue until you turned the truck and headlights on. But it worked fine without the headlights on and truck running.
i would love a truck upgrade series, i just got myself a Taco so it would have been cool to see you do this with yours but a tundra works too i suppose
Last month I got me a New to me 2015 Tacoma. But……It’s a 5 speed manual and I absolutely love it. Nothing like driving a manual and it’s the nicest truck I have ever owned
Hey Tyler, How are you doing today? I am doing pretty good myself. I would love to see a lot more truck upgrades on your TH-cam second channel. I hope that you take care until next time!
So, check your cruise control now. See if it will stay on. Just curious. I tracked down my cc issue to a newly installed LED third brake light. Even with a resistor in line. 2003 Silverado.
I recommend putting led pods in the bumper if you pull trailers a lot. I turn them on and see everything that I'm doing with the trailer best purchase and mod if I ever made.
I have a 2010 where i kept factory lights but changed every single bulb in everything to led and even switchbacks in the front and i found real quick that i needed resistors in turn signals. Warning if you plan to replace the speakers the door panels are a true pain in the ass cause you will break and have to replace every clip and you will need adapters to fit aftermarket speakers to the doors and wires.
When you buy the headlight kit PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD make sure they are good and don’t blind other drivers. I hate aftermarket LED headlights on older vehicles bc they almost all suck and just flood light out as if the high beams are on.
At the end, showing the left turn light while saying 'Right turn' and blinking the right light while saying 'Left turn'. Instead of saying left or right I am going to start saying driver or passenger. Even when giving directions... "When you reach the corner, turn to driver."
The words you're looking for instead of "disgusting yellow" is warm light vs cool light. It's a difference in color temperature and actually has nothing to do with LED vs Incandescent. You can buy cooler color temp incandescent bulbs. But if you're going to replace all your lights you might as well get LEDs. But also you can get LEDs in warmer color temps as well, your "disgusting yellow".
The reverse lights seem an afterthought on most new cars these days (in Europe even 1 reverse light is enough)... They used to be so you could look backwards better. But on newer cars it just seems a small light to indicate you are reversing.
This is tiny box is probably indeed to fool the indicator bulb out error... Since the normal blinker lights have a nice and steady on/off frequency... but the new tail lights go in sequence and draw different amounts of power all the time... (it's basically 3 lights in sequence). So the controls think the light went out because it assumes a normal light bulb.... The resistor or capacitor in this tiny box removes this power ripple and fools the controls. For the emergency lights it's no use to check for a bulb out error..
What does it look like when both the hazard lights and the brake pedal is pressed? I really like the modern design of the lights but I wish there were separate elements for the turn signal and tail/brake lights.
The fault will only appear when the truck os running because when its off the computer isnt looking for a fault. Once its on it thinks the bulbs gone so it goes a bit mad. I had the same problem with ny ford focus with xenon headlights bought this massive error cancellors basically a bank of resistors. However its very easy to do with software so i did that in the end its the best way.
You have a good on camera personality. you should look into expanding into different types of videos. Alot of youtubers have crap content but because they have personality and can be natural on camera they do well
Awesome video, man! I've been doing the same to my Jeep here and there since I got it. A lot of my lights I got for free from Amazon since I do reviews for them, I still need to do my front turn signals, and i need to do the dome lights since one is already blown, lol.
I got my led headlight bulbs from headlight experts and they are awesome and i made sure i got the resistors with them to be sure i wouldn't have any issues
I'm down for a truck upgrade series
Same
You bet 👍
Same
Agreed!
It’s a resistor. LEDs draw so little current that when the car is running it thinks the bulb is out. That resistor tricks the car.
It's usually always for the indicators. Most bulb failure warnings are from continuity so still work with leds.

@@ab3rsur314 I think it's between 5 and 7 ohm. I'll double check incase it's kohm's 😂 50w
@@MaNNeRz91 yeah, because I really don't know where to put that resistor or relay in my head- and/or Backlights 😅

As an ASE master tech I approve this message. You're an auto tech, these videos should be gold.
Congrats on the purchase Tyler.
Upgrade videos would be awesome 🔥
6:07 Hey Taylor actually gives a good tip and in the previous video he read the instructions for a product. Evolution is underway, folks.😁
the little black box that you fit behind the light unit is called a Canbus Error Canceller unit its used on LED's to tell the vehicle that you are running 5watts over the stock 35watts output voltage otherwise you get warning bulb out message on the dash cluster if not fit
As a Tundra owner myself I always love some Tundra based content.
Hey,I like this format.
0:33 Yes.
I think this is going to be a pretty cool series. Can’t wait for more.
This video shows why Tyler *WAS* a mechanic.
The new turn signals and flashers almost has a "Plasma" effect from the cameras perspective. Looks great!!👍
The resistor works for both taillights because there is a flasher relay under the dash, thats what makes the clicking noise, so in a way they are connected. They also make relays for LEDs so you wouldnt need the resisors.

I like the truck video. I did my tail lights last week. Your mom helped to wire up my third brake light :)
truck upgrade series would be dope

Depends on how it's made.
The 4 way flashers flash at the same speed without the resistor. If you turned the right signal on without the resistor it would have blinked faster.

Yes upgrade series

Yes to more truck mod videos, Tyler.
You really need to add links to the products you use 🤣 as a 2016 tundra owner that would be helpful. Glad to see you upgraded!

Glad you were still able to find a manual, they're getting rarer and that's sad.
@@bwc1976 I know right.

Port and starboard :)
Your mom would love truck upgrade series.
Congratulations on your new truck!
Keep the truck upgrades coming 👍👍
This video was a nice change of pace! Look forward to the headlights.
i would like to see a truck upgrade series
Hope someone explains that tail light thing. Why adding it to one side fixed the issue.
It'll be on loop so one side will be enough to trick the system.
Tyler could you please put a link to the lights you bought, I’d love to add these to my tundra as well
Definitely do a mod series
A car upgrade series sounds like a great idea it also brings a but more variety of content for people who like other things.
Love this. I have a 21 Tundra and need to see the upgrades!

Congrats on the new truck! Looking forward to more upgrades with it
Love this - happy to see how easy making these upgrades can be

Be careful with the resistor they get really hot. You don’t want them to melt the wires.
I would like to know what brand those tail lights are, and if they would fit my 2014 Tundra.
Nice Truck, Tyler, but doesn't the emergency brake work. I thought you were going to back over the camera.
Don’t watch truck stuff but with you it’s different
I replaced all the lights on my van with LED bulbs and my reverse lights are soooo bright and amazing to back up with. Literally are like headlights
Great viewing dude, keep 'em coming 🤙
It’s because it’s only hyper flashing when your headlights were on. But when they were off, they were flashing normally.
