Gentlemen, I find myself coming back so often as the daughter of a former member. I’m excited that it will be 100 years in 2021 since the group was formed.
I have this recurring fantasy where i'm sitting in a doctor's or hospital waiting room along with these gentlemen, when suddenly they break into a spiritual number like this. Imagine what that would do for the the mood of the sick.
I am 52 years old. My mother sang this song to me when I was a child all the way through my adulthood. I miss you Mom. Merry Christmas 2017. God bless these gentleman for such a wonderful Talent
A fine, fine rendition of a tune I grew up with! Every year, my mother had an Ernie Ford version on one her many Christmas albums. One of favorites, to this day! Thank you, gentlemen.
My grandfather would sing this song when I was a child downsouth..just a beautiful memory 😥😊❤ It made me so very happy to see him happy as he worked and took care of us.
oh man!!I I have not heard them in years. thank you for having that record to play it. I now will have to find the album. thank you so very much for playing this song I enjoyed it very much!!
I had this great big grin, as I was patting my foot from beginning to end‼️ Absolutely one of the best Acapella versions, including the 1930s Arkansas group of men... Truly a Wonderful hidden gem found during this Christmas season.
So many versions of this classic. . . and this one, voices and hand-claps only, is particularly stirring. Wouldn't it be fascinating to have "Home Free" sing this with them?
These guys are great. We sang this in public school in the 60s. We had a wonderful music teacher who taught us many folk songs, which as this comment illustrates had a lasting impact. I remember many of those songs and her class was the reason. So here I give my heartfelt thanks to Miss Shostak for the beautiful memories

Sorry, but what does the sixth verse originally mean? My mom and I were in the car listening to a version of this, and I heard it and pointed it out. And my mom burst out laughing.
I first heard this group about 10 years ago and I was awestruck!!! Love the quartet gospel sound...my only wish was that I had that deep baritone voice like "Uncle Freeman"...oh yeah, as soon as I heard them, they became family!!!!
So the Fair Field Four began singing 100 years ago, my cousin remember Willie Love as a Bass Singer, so do I. We most likely was listening to the group thought out the 1940s. My Mother also was a gospel lover, and that is why I am still a gospel lover.
It's just so incredibly good! I've been listening to this over the holidays for many years now. I post it annually on my FB page, and get many happy comments when I do.
My grandma said i use to sing this song all the time i just thought of it she lived to be 99 years old lord have mercy if she only knew i now remembered it.
