    Thanks for this recipe. I'm a carnivore, but on a vegan kick at the moment. Trying to lose weight. Lost 30 lbs since 1 March by going vegan. It works. My mother used to make Tom yum for me when I was growing up. I would eat the galangal, lemon grass and lime leaves. I still do, especially with this recipe. This is so good and it keeps with the essence of authentic Thai flavors of tom yum. My wife had to go back for seconds. I just love the choice of mushrooms you chose. Well done, Pai. Keep up the good work.

    this bring back memories during my university day. there's a very good thai shop nearby that students love to go because it's delicious and cheap. when I'm not feeling like eating meat I'll always order 'vegetable tom yum'. the uncle always secretly put 3-4 shrimps in it because he didn't want us to starve hahah how i wish to be able to eat tomyum from that shop again

  • @johnobii

    This is a very flavorful recipe. The only modification I made was to char the onion used to make the broth. I am thinking of using this soup as a base and adding other vegetables to make a hearty vegetable soup. Bok Choy, cabbage, broccoli, zucchini, even some blanched carrots would work in this soup base.
    Awesome recipe Pai.

    Hi Pailin, thank for sharing this recipe. It looks very tasty and I love mushrooms and do enjoy vegetarian food too.I thought to share some of my experience in learning to cook vegan food whenever I volunteer at my local temple. I know it sounds odd, but two of the things that are not allowed in our Buddhism vegan food is garlic and onion. However, at home, my mom is not as strict on using them. For those who want more flavor in their veggies broth, use carrot, daikon, cabbage, apples, pineapples, and tomato. These should be slow cook for at least 1-2hr to get all of its nutrient and flavor. We discard all of them before adding more of our main ingredients. Usually we add pineapple to soup base that will be sweet and sour, where as apples are for the sweetness balance from the salty base. Most will always be carrots, daikons, and cabbages. I just want to share hoping to help someone interested in cooking vegan food.

      Hi! FYI if you want to ask her directly rather than put it out to the community (see her note above on comments) you can use one of the links above under "Show more" and then "Connect with me". But that said, most Thai food is a combination of sweet, salty and sour (which is why it's so good :)) - so yes add the lime in! Cheers! Adam

    Dear Pai, thank you again for your recipes and beautiful performance. My question is about glass noodles. I find them very hard to prepare....I have a problem cutting them and also would like to know how to use them right. Is it ok to just let them soak in water? Do they need cooking or can just put them into a soup or other dish after soaking in cold water just to get some heating with the dish?
    Thank you in advance! And have great days cooking for all of us!

    • @PailinsKitchen
      @PailinsKitchen  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to soak them for 7-10 minutes before cooking, and I cut them after they've been soaked. I have a few recipes with glass noodles, visit my website and do a search for "glass noodles". Hope this helps!
