The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport was built jointly by Greenville and Spartanburg, hence the name, each county contributed equally financially to its construction. The airport is governed by a 6 person commission, 3 of whom must come from Greenville County and 3 must come from Spartanburg County. The airport opened in 1962 long before many of these corporations were located in upstate SC. The idea of the airport came about in the early days of the jet age when the older airports in both cities could not accommodate large jets. It was deemed more practical and cost effective for the two cities to build a joint airport for jet air travel rather than each city building their own and competing for jet air travel. GSP was the first airport to have lights built into the runway and an airside garden. The airfield at the airport has been named after Spartanburg textile magnate Roger Milliken who chaired the commission that built the airport and was influential for many years. Most of the airport is located in an area of Spartanburg County known as Flatwood. For years this airport was referred to “the jetport” in upstate SC.
I wish they would build a Costco out on the west side.
You and me both @bradleyharrington
The empty lot off exit 27 would be great

Does the west side of Greenville have natural gas?
Does upstate SC have many people from NJ and NY?
We do have a strong coalition of Jets and Giant fans 😂
