JEEP stands for "Just Empty Every Pocket" when you take it in for repairs. Which isn't far from the truth when you break or wear out the 4WD parts 🤣 And I'll toss in some trivia: Ford pickup trucks and vans share the oddball 5 1/2 inch 5 lug wheel stud pattern with Jeeps. Post-WW2 there were some 'shenanigans' between Willys and the government to ensure that the US market wouldn't be flooded with surplus Jeeps, so most got left overseas which allowed Willys to sell new ones here for a decent profit. Old outdoors and car magazines had ads in the back selling info on how you could buy surplus Jeeps at government auctions for as little as $15. What those ads didn't mention is to get those kinds of prices you'd have to buy in very large 'lots' where good and junk Jeeps were combined. And the famed J.C. Whitney mail order catalog sold lots of parts and accessories for Jeeps old and new until they went RIP.
Jeep almost went under in the late 60's after Ford, International, Dodge, and GM brought out their own larger more refined 4WD's which had more market appeal. AMC understood this and bought Jeep with a plan to go upscale with them, and that made Jeep profitable again. It also brought Jeeps to mainstream America through the large dealer network they already had whereas before Jeep dealers were few and far between which limited sales. Jeep has kept the 'Special Edition' trend going henceforth and usually much as AMC did, with the 'special' parts being mostly graphics, colors, and some bolt-ons or drop-ins. Lastly, the world's largest Jeep dealer by volume of sales was Larry Hinckle, located near me in Pickens, SC. He was renowned for offering new modified Jeeps built to better handle the rigors of off-roading and was the driving force behind many of the aftermarket suppliers of today building their own businesses from his large and regular purchases of their heavy-duty parts. Among Jeep enthusiasts he's as revered as Yenko was for Chevy or Tasca was for Ford, and a Hinckle's Jeep now carries a price premium over the exact same thing built by anyone else.

@P_RO_ I'm seriously considering consulting you before writing scripts on certain vehicles! Fantastic read as usual! I have vague memories of people buying Jeeps in a box kits. Ads in Popular Mechanics and such. I bought alot of aircooled VW parts from JC Whitney at one point.

YJ Wranglers are my favorite Wrangler. That Elephant out of the room, my experience with CJs came with my friends 83 CJ7 in high school. I got to see a 1948 CJ2A when I was camp hosting in the Unitas 3 yrs ago. Older gentleman had it. He used it for summer excursions in the mountains for the grandkids. A basic cool side by side. All original too. Except he put in a seat in back for said grandkids because it came with front seats originally. Awesome video. My dream Jeep CJ would be the Golden Eagle CJ7. Always loved them. 😊

@Hobotraveler82 My brother in law had a sweet lifted 93 Wrangler with the 4.0 inline 6 and a 5 speed. Yeah the current side by sides are basically modern day versions of original CJs. Glad you enjoyed it! And I want a Scrambler! Always loved those.

Great video!! Wish we could have simple rides like the early Jeeps today... I'm also going with the "general purpose" origin for Jeep as general purpose train engines were called "Geeps"

Your vids are so well done with an err of professionalism. I look at the views and think it would be crushing to me with what looks like just a ton of work, love, and passion put into each video. You’ll break through man, it’s just a matter of time. Your vids are just too well done visually, pacing wise and have character with your excellent narration, not to. I don’t think you will but don’t give up!
Looking forward to the next one!

Thank you for the video. It was quite interesting and a education. I heard the part about the story about the Buick V6. You were telling the story about the the early days of the 3800 V6. That engine served GM well. Too bad it does not exist today in 2024. I heard the Oldsmobile mention too. You fit in nicely. The history of the Jeep is strong. It is interesting how Ford, Willys and the other company built military/government equipment and how Jeep grew over time from that. What is sad is how Stellantis is destroying the brand in 2024. I liked the footage and details. The Jeeps today have screens and power windows and more in 2024. It took a while before the automatic transmission was introduced. I am sure a story about the Humvee and Hummer would be interesting.

The name WILLYS is NOT pronounced "willies", nor does it have an apostrophe S (Willy's) The company was named after the founder, John Willys..pronounced like WILLIS...(Think Bruce Willis). This is a very common mistake. I just wanted to point that out. Great video.
