- Today I place some BrickLink orders for bulk LEGO pieces that will be used to upgrade the raised train track in the city. I walk through my process of coming up with the parts list and quantities, adding them to a wishlist, selecting sellers, and finalizing the orders. with the 2x1 pillars, you could add ladders on some of them, for maintenance and rescue workers if needed. a bit of detail to break up the verticals.

Such an epic piece count and undertaking. The raised train has become that random city build I never thought I would enjoy so much. Going to be interesting when you add raised stations at the university etc. great work man and will look super clean when finished. Easily the coolest thing you’ve added to the city so far IMO.
I've honestly gotten paralysis by analysis looking at bricklink just so many parts, prices and options. Really appreciate you doing a breakdown on your process. Happy building. Hope you and the family are doing great!
Really interesting to see just how much work goes into these orders and price checking. I’ll stick to ordering mini figs I think. Save my city building for when I have more free time. Have to admire you’re dedication Bricksie and Mrs Bricksie.
It can be so much worse: is it worth paying more for a part to get it from a seller that has other parts you want? Or should you get the cheapest option even if it means paying a second shipping fee? The 6 cheapest sellers to get enough quantity, or sellers 7-8 who have enough just by themselves, but a bit more expensive? When is it worth paying international shipping for cheaper prices? If you don’t need some of the parts _right now_ and you see the average over the last 6 months is significantly cheaper than is available now, do you hold out for prices to come back down, or are you seeing tightening supply on an out-of-production part and you’d better pounce because prices will only go up? And when do you say “close enough” and decide that it’s down to a price you’re comfortable with, so it’s ok if it’s not the absolute cheapest price you could manage?
Some of those are pretty easy to answer most of the time, they just take some math. But some of them are hard to answer and some are just judgment calls and the only way to know if you made the right call is in hindsight. So, yeah, a large or complex order pretty much always means a spreadsheet or two, in addition to using all of Bricklink’s help with locating the best current options.
Quick thought, if you are going to be purchasing all new bricks for your elevated rail you might want to consider alternate colors/design for your down town vs the amusement park. The change would help better define the different areas of your layout. Perhaps the light gray tiles for the city (simulating cement) and brown (wood) for the amusement park or dark gray (metal).
For the 3 studs coming out from the arches, I suggest a curvecoming I suggest a 3 stud inverted to create a nice bit of detail to from the masonry wall to the track
Save some money by using the tiles with the road lines on them down the middle instead of plain light grey . I’m wondering if the light grey tiles might make the line stand out more , where as now the track blends in . Omg yes a brick room … what a dream .
Trix Brix makes ballast plate for Lego’s stand train curves. It’s not tiled off but it would eliminate the holes. It also still has studs to attach tiles. They have great products!

Had a thought, where the raised track meets the retaining wall you could use some 1 x 3 inverted arches to blend it into the wall better? (assuming the train can still pass freely). As opposed to 1 x 3 flat tiles or exposed studs. Would flow better with the supporting arches underneath.

Hey Jordan, Trix Brix may have a solution to tiling your raised curved tracks. Check out the item called Pavement for Quarter Circle R40 on their website. Looks like they're 3d printed. Not sure about the outer pieces, but inside the rails looks pretty good. I haven't ordered from them, but they say they ship to the US and Canada. AFOL TV did a video talking about them. Hope this helps!

Also suggest in the future you revise your elevated line track route to actual go thru a building. This building could be a moc, maybe a multistory mall with the floor at the track level as a train station. Lot of interested ways to go this design, would be fun project.
The curved tracks, look at the rocket cones, besides the round bricks, that might help you.
Also, combine both fillers and add two wedge parts, below each other.
Make more MOC's using several of the same set, like say the Destiny Bounty from back then.
In fact, your Jurassic Park gate and your flipped (and crunched) care scene, get another and give that gate some dept to it, plus that T-rex just having escaped.

Then I'm okay or other wise I be just looking at the screen doing my head in. But my house mates good with that stuff so I get him to help me. 😊

Sounds like the ideal dream scenario one day in Bricksie future would be to have a huge inventory of all Lego parts.. you’d have to employ an Elf or two (aka the twins) to manage the shipping side but you could be the go to brick supplier for North America. That along with the Bricksie museum and the Bricksie gift shop.. man I’m envious of the position you’re in and the potential for future growth would be so exciting.

Yes on the piller beam s yeep I seed that at the start unless you youse two and had on on each side. With just one it not look as good. As pilla bean s 😊👍. Nice one on moveing the track out few studs. U dont need to fill in that gap between the wall s it how real tracks are 👍
With the pillers that support the arch you could use those one by two by 1/2 slopes at the top. The ones that make a smooth curve from a Birds Eye view.
Try to replace the 2x4 light grey tiles with some bushes or hedges, it will add some green to the build.
How did you figure out what the shipping costs would be for international orders in order to justify lower per brick costs? I'm finding Bricklink doesn't always give this information up front.

You know I think we would all love to have access to unlimited parts. There are days when I dream of just going through and ordering a few hundred of every single part. Just so I have them when I want to build something. Then reality hits me and I realize there are something like 50,000 elements, and I will likely never have everything. But we can still dream.

Hi bricksie the curves you can fill the gaps in with the triangel plate but then with the long side on the left and on the right of the plate the one stud

With the platform section, why don’t you bring out the rocky part of the mountain so the track lies directly on it? Save of parts and might look nicer than having a load of arches?
I use studio to rough out a build . Then I don’t have to put all the parts away . You just have to make sure the parts are actually available in the colors you add to them
FYI: the Mandalorian Helmet Set 75328 has just enough grey parts to build/cover 1 32x32 MILS plate! I had an extra one and discovered this. 😁
I think those small gaps on the curves are OK, I wouldn't worry too much about those itll look fine 🙂

I'd search all the prices on Lego, set those as "max" and set Bricklink to ignore offers above.
To order a lot of parts like you are doing, it's like having a full time job to do it to keep costs down.

since lego owns bricklink I would think they should publish official tutorial videos on how to use the bricklink site efficiently.
There's a company in America that make custom curve tiles for curved train track 👍
You could use the lego digital designer but the issue is when you create your design time consuming also you may not get the your creation to line up in ldd (lego digital designer) and then there the up dates in the LDD take some time to up date and after the update some of your design are missing parts in them. Yeah bricklink while useful, can be so frustrating, always feels like a rip off, especially when in Australia
why not move the "mountain" x number of studs out så the track was on the rocks? would look better i think. otherwise nice work
I think your -- build as you go -- is faster than it would be using Lego CAD software . You have good ideas and come up with many ways and it is right there , you can see it -- touch it , make faster changes as you go . I messed around with some design software in the past and have never really had much luck with it . Personal preference !! Later 😃 D.
Add second tracks with 4x1 u pieces
I don't think you need tons of Lego like on Lego Masters to be a good moc builder if you have the skills, creativity, parts knowledge and eye for details. There's many skilled moc builders out there that I'm pretty sure don't have nearly as much lego and can develop great designs with what they have on hand. That's like saying you can't be a great chef without a professional kitchen. You seem to have lots of variety of parts, probably not in every color but you can still experiment with them with what you have and just order the right colors after you finish a design. No excuse for amateur looking designs if you call yourself a lego city builder.

why not pull the rock wall forward below the track, and make it appear as though the train track is carved out of the mountain.
The beauty about buying Lego pieces is that they’re appreciating assets so technically you can’t lose.. especially when you have millions of them 🤑
Do you check all your orders piece by piece when they come in? I just made my first 2 PAB orders from Lego and they were both wrong (missing pieces and extra things I didn’t order). Took me forever to to! Newbie here live your videos!

You can set your max price to lego pick-a-bricks price so you know you’re getting the best price possible off of bricklink.
Can you add a parking garage
Why don't you change your retaining walls with the rocks on the outside of the track, then the track, and then the retaining wall on the inside of the track... If that makes any sense.. ;-)
In that solution you can see the rock wall even better, and you don't need to make the thin colums, that would (in real life) never be able to carry the train.. The rails is then on the rocks..
This may be too much of a hassle, but it would be neat to have a switchtrack on the raised rails and create a second route that meets up again across the city

is there a downside to using the Auto-Select feature rather than going store by store?
You have to watch the prices, because Bricklink just suggests stores with the parts you want, regardless of the price. Often the larger sellers with a lot of inventory charge a lot more, because they know you may want to buy from one shop for convenience / to save shipping, etc. I will set a max price on each piece and that will eliminate sellers with what I feel are high prices. But it also limits your choices.

Bricksie hey Edmontonian ' my father said he knows your dad because of the business he owns and guess what my step father and I are huge lego collectors and gold and silver . The market is you shake to invest in . I am opening a store cause I have a lot of toys and other things in stock . I think in the future I will get store more for shipping and selling and buying . I am sure the shipping will sell more ' however you need space somewhere.
