Great video. I have the same bike with almost 40 hours on the motor. I only race MX but im an older racer and really dont beat on the engine. Never bounced off the rev limiter. Ive done plenty of top ends on 2 strokes but the 4 has me a little intimidated. With your video I think i'll give it a shot. Thank you
Yeah. The right side of the engine was taken apart, I put the Kickstarter back in place and the clutch back on. Waiting for a gaskets kit. They didn't keep enough oil in it and the top end blew up. New head, cams, valves etc. I took the cylinder off and the crank is good. The piston rings are broke, so need some new ones. Just a whole lot of cleaning and waiting for the gaskets!
@@traveling_country_ranger_ nice! That’s worth it man. Lots of people have an issue and would rather just get rid of it than fix it or pay someone. You can get some great deals that way.
Yes I did check the cylinder wall for damage. There is a few scuff marks but nothing that catches my finger nail even the slightest bit. I was thinking about getting a whole new postin kit but I think I'll just buy new rings cuz the piston looks fine with only a few scuff marks.
I have a chain slap rattling noise. 04 kx250f. Bike was rebuilt. I'm thinking a cam chain tensioner. Or my chain is just super loose. I had this issue on my 05 zx10r and now have same issue on my 05 450r.
I would try to tighten the chain first that usually makes a lot of noise if it’s loose. If you tighten it and it’s still doing it might be timing chain but it’s likely just your chain. Usually at lower rpm lugging it out of a corner for example is when a loose chain will make the most noise.
I have the same bike I got it with a blown head gasket and I replaced it and it blows coolant out the right side of the top end .. but also I do not have the original to top cylinder both on the right-hand side I have other both I had made to work but I don't understand why the gasket leak still maybe head is warped or could it possibly I installed it wrong? Any advice would be appreciated
What year of bike is this in the video, doing top end on my 07 and curious if there’s anything different I should be aware of from video bike to my 07? Great video and attention to detail
It’s a 17. There will be some differences on your 07 I think but overall most top ends are relatively similar. I haven’t worked on a 07 so not sure what exactly is different but I would guess not much.
thank you for the video, about to get into by top end for the first time to check the valve clearance. was wondering what type of gasket adhesive is needed when replacing the large gasket under the valve cover.
hey bro i had a shop look at the bike i bought my son i took them just the motor they said the cylinder had good cross hatching so he put it back together with new gaskets and i was watching another guy talk about breaking the seal of the cylinder and if you do you should rebuild it cuz if you don’t it will mess up your motor what’s your opinion on that thanks bro
These bikes get lots of wear and tear. I would say it depends on how you’re riding it. But honestly if the cylinder is still in good condition it’s fine to “break the seal”. These motors go for tons of hours and you can replace the rings and take the motor apart and put it back together and do all kinds of stuff and it won’t mess it up. Really the only time you need to be concerned with a full rebuild and messing things up is if it’s showing symptoms of bigger problems. These engines are tough. I ride mine hard and am on the rev limiter quite a bit and it’s just fine.
Some things will be different but overall similar. Be sure to check the torque specs on your specific bike since they may have some different for your 09
Yes but usually desert racing in New Mexico and tons of forest. Lots of track too but not much track racing. This bike gets to see a bit of everything. It gets put to the test for sure.

Thanks man. They aren’t too bad at all once you get in to them.
This video helped me the most out of any other video thank you so much man
Absolutely. Are you doing anything specific or the entire top end 100%?
Very clear and to the point. Thx
This video was great! Thanks for being detailed and the video was very well done.
Thanks! I’ve been busy but I have some more videos coming soon.
Super helpful man! I just got a 06' kx450f for free!
Sweet!! Nothing better than free even if it need a little work it’s worth it

Also did you check the inside of the cylinder for damage?
Yes I did check the cylinder wall for damage. There is a few scuff marks but nothing that catches my finger nail even the slightest bit. I was thinking about getting a whole new postin kit but I think I'll just buy new rings cuz the piston looks fine with only a few scuff marks.
Good morning... it is very important that you help me, I need your knowledge, the position of the rings that go on the piston. how are they? Help me

Can you do a video of a quick carb and throttle body cleaning/maintenance?
these bikes aren’t car heated brother
carbureted**
Yeah bro just found out not too long ago they are fuel injected lol

Rtv
I used Honda bond for basically everything

Can you please tell me a list of all the parts I need for a top end on my kx450f
Hi,
How much is standard value tps sensor om's for kx450f 2016?
Where the heck is your plastic timing chain guide? I didn’t see them when you took the head off..
It might have gotten edited out. I had to cut down a few things in the interest of time.
I have a 09 kx 450 would that video work on this bike.
Some things will be different but overall similar. Be sure to check the torque specs on your specific bike since they may have some different for your 09
I have a Kx450f and when I turn it on it produces gray smoke, what is the problem?
That could be a bad head gasket allowing coolant into the piston
Thankt bro
The bike doesn’t have to be in top dead center unless your checking valves correct?
To disassemble it no it doesn’t.
Okay thank you so much as well for you quick responses so I’m assuming when re assembling my top end I have to have it at top dead center then
@@jaybloxx_2 yep top dead center for the reassemble.
Hey man I have a 06 450 can I send you some video my kicker is stiff and the black plastic cover popped out
Sure. Send it to tannerjthomas@gmail.com
Have you tried racing any Hare Scrambles?
Yes but usually desert racing in New Mexico and tons of forest. Lots of track too but not much track racing. This bike gets to see a bit of everything. It gets put to the test for sure.
How to do timing chain?
I need help I got the same bike and when I race and turn it off it doesn’t start
Any other symptoms while it’s running? How long does it take until it will start again?
Could be a lot of different things. Does it run rough or have less power while you’re racing?
