Stereo 4op FM synths are good for pads and more tradiitonal synth souds, while the original 12bit mono DX7 are great for bass and percussive sounds, while sounding much more organic.
Well, it has a wider range due to more waveforms if somewhat cheesy at times but can do atmospheric sounds too. Its quite different from the DX7 which can pack more punch but less variety.
It has a weird ROM sequencer /arpeggiator that is preset, with fixed cheesy pounds and no, cannot transmit over Midi. More like an auto section. Like the bridge between a home keyboard and an FM synth
ABSOLUTNIE NIEZWYKŁY I fm

I HAD THIS ONE IN MAY 1990...GREAT TOOL AT THE HE TIME ....JUST 4 OPERATORS BUT FM SYNTHESIS...✨🤗🤗👍👍
That was my first synth, what nostalgia! ❤
Please make a video of the Auto-Performance features.
Wow. This sounds great!
Another synth I've never seen before ... better presets than the DX7 ... would love some ART or Digitech Multi EFX thou...
The DS55 is certainly not a DX7 being only a 4 operator 8 algorhythm FM instrument

wow never seen this one before
It seems to be very uncommon.
Dry fm still hurts my ears 😂. Compare it to the good old CE25 with ensemble chorus! Fast forward to min 4:35: th-cam.com/video/oS2nSEgWAJA/w-d-xo.html
Interesting obscure Yamaha… does it have any sequencing abilities or is it basically just an FM rompler?
FM romoler???
@@madness8556 Bad choice of words on my part, I admit. I think what I meant to ask was, "does it only have presets?"
@@erichkohl9317 if I remember correctly, the DS55 offered some limited programmability.

@@rachelar I kind of wish I had a DSR-2000; I remember seeing them at the music store and in ads back in the day.
