@@IGP whats really funny is that's exactly what some games used to do in the past. They'd do actual recordings for interactions while movement was just point/click style.
@@thegoldenatlas753 At Dead Of Night (released Nov 2020) was that style. stuck in a hotel with a serial killer, they used real footage for the whole thing as far I'm aware. heard they were working on another one.

Plenty is happenening. This game is about environment, it doesn't need someone talking constantly for it to be entertaining.
Better than 8-bit Ryan, he had his sensitivity turned down so low he was talking at normal volume and it didn't even register.

There are two types of horror games, ones that make you shit yourself and are littered with jump scares, and there are ones that make you cry in fear, like this one, because of how quiet and just terrifying it is
The third kind is 80% of them which is just not scary

Horror vs terror
It's everything but quiet tho. There was sounds literally the whole game, between the moans, the screams, the growls, the blabla, etc. It's one of the noisiest game I ever saw.

I feel like to get the most out of games like this you need monsters that counter each other.
For example a monster that requires you to be quiet and another that requires you to be loud in order to scare it away. A Monster you need to look at, and you shouldn't. One you have to stay still for, and one you have to run away from. While alot of games already have these types of monsters, they don't really get the mixing/interaction aspect down well. In order to not make every encounter simple and easily avoided you need to have multiple monsters in a single encounter but with multiple options to solve it. Like having the peanut stand behind shyguy in scp, or the gas dog and the blind dog in the same area from lethal company.

Imagine getting the worst RNG and having them all active at the same time
That would be awesome to have a monster you have to make noise to scare away. Would be difficult to have to gamble a hit because you made noise or die.
But the other ones, funny enough, are actually in this game and I encounter all of them. The long armed lady makes you run and turn your flashlight off to hide. The curious one and the pennywise mouth lady force you to look at them or they will move closer and kill you. The one who tells you to stay still so it can see you forces you to stand still.
Would be a cool addition to complete the checklist.

To be completely honest with you? The Unreal Marketplace and the Unreal Engine 5 magic.
It's most likely using UE5s nanite technology which allows for insanely high polycounts with a flat overhead increase (ultimately providing better performance as you scale) plus quixel mega scans which are photo realistic since they kind of are the result of photos. The video screen effect probably helps to sell the realism too, since your brain is trying to fill in between the distortion.
The VHS filter hides most of the details that make objects look like your normal, everyday in-game models. The high frame rate helps make the objects move realistically. If you took both of those away, I'm sure it would look a lot less realistic, even though the photorealism is pretty high.
UE5 magic, as IGP said, is the main reason. Lumen (their lighting engine) is extremely good plus theres a bunch of other goodies like Nanite
Lighting filters are just as important as having high quality textures when it comes to making games look good.

IGP picks legit games. Obviously devs are influenced by what others do. It's like being an author or filmmaker. You can't be absolutely original. It's what you put into it to make it fresh that counts.

Yeah you can’t be absolutely original but you also don’t have to copy paste stuff yk? Like, it’s nearly impossible to tell this game apart from Don’t Scream, and even IGP was confused about who made this game and thought maybe it was the same people… the main menu, the environment, some monsters and sfx, and the main mechanic and controls are the exact same as Don’t Scream.
Imo there’s a line between using references when making your own game and just straight up copying their work as a shortcut. You can’t prevent people from doing the latter and it is inevitable but it’s not smth they should be praised for imo.
Probably been suggested already but just in case- The spots on the camera near the cross-head dude was probably radiation. You could hear a geiger counter ticking faster the closer it got to you. So... Uranium cross maybe? lol
This game is ultra realistic once you entered the forest.

Honestly, with this tech, it would be so fun to simply have a forest walk simulator. All you do is have a walk in a forest, with different weather, animals, mishrooms, plants, trees etc to discover. You might learn something about forest ecology or smth. No people, just you and nature.

the way the darkness comes in is crazy an area would stay lit until you looked away from it and right before ur peripherals fade a little before in like little clouds

running out of microphone inovations for horror games? What if the game also used your camera? When you hide, you need to hide in real life too. And if the game can't detect your microphone or your camera, your in game gear starts playing an allarm sound.

This is better than don't scream. Don't get me wrong don't scream was really cool, but the monsters here are better looking and them being able to hurt you prevents you from ceasing to be fazed after the 1st run. Also it gives you an objective which forces you to get more invested
These never gets old on how terrifying it gets.
