S1 - Ep 363 - Ramsgate - Proved to be a Truly Gratifying Experience!

  • We were captivated by the breathtaking drive from Port Edward to Ramsgate, opting for a less-travelled scenic route due to the very busy main road. Along the way, our love for exploring led us to discover a charming old bridge, which we delighted in checking out. The culinary highlight of our visit to this charming coastal village was the delectable waffles at the renowned Waffle House, the dessert being an irresistible delight we wished to savour repeatedly. Taking a walk through the area, we were treated to the humorous sight of playful and mischievous monkeys and the walk through Tanglewood enchanted us with its natural beauty. Our time in Ramsgate proved to be a truly gratifying experience, weaving together picturesque landscapes, delectable indulgences and memorable encounters with wildlife. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #ramsgate #kwazulunatal #portedward

    A lovely trip down memory lane for you, Sonia - an altogether amazing introduction to this beautiful region for me, all thanks to both of you - and I join you in proclaiming myself rendered “speechless”, Curtis. There is just so much to take in.

      It was almost a whole new introduction to the area for us too, we haven't been there in that long! I'm so glad you're enjoying the gorgeousness which is this part of the South Coast of KZN. We have a lot more to show you! 🚙🤩

    I will say it again and again - Natal is a beautiful part of our country. Everything is green and it is nature at its best!
    The Meuseum, county jail and saloon was super cool to visit. The vegetation and tress are so beuatiful. The sea is so
    nice and have a tranquil effect on a person. They really have all you could wish for there - river, sea & nature at its best.
    Wow wish I could visit the crayfish inn! So it is only us here at Strand that has a tidal pool! Nice properties in Ramsgate.
    Thank you so much for this trip it was stunning and like you say "gratifying experience. My seat is booked as the next one will surely be as rewarding as this one was!

      I'm glad you were transported to the wild, wild, West with me! It really was a super cool place! 🤠🏜️ It's incredible how many rivers are in this area and so many of them run into the ocean, it's quite spectacular! 🤩🌊 And the green you speak of, is absolutely everywhere! Their tidal pool almost looks like a rim pool, quite fancy! 😁 See you on Saturday!

    Know the town well. When I was still a teenager, from grade 10 to 12 we used to deliver The Sunday Tribune and Sunday Times for pocket money , pick from Durban and deliver all the way down the South Coast right up to Port Edward. Doing that I had the opportunity to see all the small towns on the South Coast. That's is what we did as youngsters during those days. Today young people are just glued to their cell phones.

      You certainly got to know the area well that way! 🗞️ Sometimes I can't even believe that there was a time before cellphones. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    😂😂I thought I've seen it all until I saw the police fishing and with the police vehicle 😂. No where else would you witness that lol, maybe they were off duty but it's still funny though. SA is some kind of special and I love it ❤. I think ive fallen inlove with this place, loved the wild west museum and the beautiful greenery of the plants and trees. Love the waffle house such a peaceful atmosphere with so much scenery and the cheeky monkeys is so cute lol, it makes me so happy to see that no one is to bothered with the monkeys and not hurting them or throwing rocks at them. Beautiful sandy beaches. Places that you've never heard of are wonderful gems with so much beauty

    I remember when we went there when I was a kid, it was always the forests that got me the most excited (so I can relate). I still love them, of course. My brother was in conservation when he was young, so I'm unfortunately too aware of the exotics, and those that would need removing if it were possible to remove them, so I can't see them entirely as I did. If every time you go through a forest, and there's someone with you pointing out the syringas, the jacarandas, the bugweed, the lantana, the chromalina odorata, the Brasilian peas, ... and so on, from then on you start to see them. It would be just as possible to just be on the lookout for the indigenous trees, though. There are still plenty of those. Main benefit of them over, say a gum tree, is that each one has its own caterpillars, and so, its own butterflies (and various beetles and so on, too.)
    That fern looks a lot like the beautiful ferns they have on the floors of the forests at Kloof Gorge Nature Reserve. Beautiful, but also alien, and in the process of choking out everything else there. Seeing as there's almost no chance of the process being reversed, I suppose the right thing to do is just get used to them. That's the new reality, and a new ecosystem will evolve around these new dominant species, just as has always been the case on Earth, since forever. It's just that this time _we_ are the extinction event for most current extinctions. World record for a single species (in impact or whatever.) Maybe we should just turn that around and be proud of ourselves. :D

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, I'll just enjoy them for how beautiful they are, whether they be indigenous or alien. 🌳💚 I think the world, and especially our country, is facing much bigger problems at the moment.

    Its memory lane time again, The waffle house, lots of time spent there, We had my mom's 80th birthday lunch in the restaurant just off the parking lot. After the banana farms have filled their quoto all the left over bananas have to be thrown away, my dad used to play golf and would want bananas if he won hence there were always bananas in their home.

    How beautiful is the old bridge! Definitely a painting. Love the bird calls you picked up while visiting the bridge. Those umbrella shaped trees are usually acacia. The artwork on the front of Pistols made me laugh. Especially the shot guy dragging the chair over!🤣😂Thanks for the tour of the museum, very interesting, just very thankful not to be emptying that spittoon on the bar counter! I have only been once to Natal and that was many years ago. We went across from Eastern Free State to visit rellies in Durban. I have missed out on a tropical paradise! Reminds me strongly of Mauritius and the Seychelles where we went on honeymoon. The monkeys are so cute, I have seen these before along the garden route and also in Hogsback. Mmmm...lime was always my fave milkshake flavour, in the days when I could still drink them and stay slim. Havent had a waffel in years, last one I think was a sorry soggy spur spectacle! Well, I hope those monkeys have good dentists to cope with all that sugar. So funny to watch them. Yep...vigilant, while camera takes in a high wall with electric wires. Dont forget, we are in Africa. Swanky party: where you have to bee hive yourself. Hanky-panky party: where no one bee hives.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This part of KZN is a tropical paradise for sure! 🌴🌊 The old bridge was rusty and charming and super cool to see. The waffles were every bit as good as we remember them and I think we may very well try that banoffee one at home. Divine, let me tell you! 🥞😍 Endless entertainment was provided by those mischievous monkeys. 🐒 Vigilance has been our constant companion since we started exploring parts of our own country, it's par for the course now. 🇿🇦🤷🏻‍♂️
