So proud of our filipinas who first enacted and sang Kim!! What a joy to listen to them in their interviews! They are intelligent, wise beyond their years, talented, articulate, self-disciplined, idealistic, generous about sharing their gifts and mentoring others, inspired and inspiring!!! Saludo to these filipinas!! They deserve highest honours and recognition from their country!!!

    Hi there
Lea and Monique were both cast simultaneously in the lead. Lea played lead six times a week and Monique did two. This kind of double casting is common in the UK. When Lea left Monique began doing the six show stint with another actress taking over the two performance contract.

Monique hasn't aged. She still looks like the way she was during her late teenage years @ Miss Saigon. Very pretty, witty, and talented.

She was the understudy. Lea was the one who really won the role of Kim.

@@faftc-rcompany2800 the understudy didn't last long. Shortly after she became the alternate.

In theatre there is always what they call understudy, it is an alternate to one or more important roles in a play.

  • @muskratlove12

Wait a minute, something's wrong here, Monique Wilson was not chosen as lead role in Miss Saigon, the lead role was given to Lea Salonga, Monique was cast as the Bar Girl and Lea Salonga's understudy, understudy is i think is an alternate to a character if that actress who play that role is not available, so Monique was an alternate if Lea is no available.

Feminist is fine but HUMANIST is way better. Labeling someone as feminist promotes divisiveness IMO. But I definitely still like Monique Wilson! Gosh she seems so humble and had and still has that very beautiful voice! :)

I beg to disagree with Tita Bibot (RIP). Theater IS part of our history. In the olden times before the Spaniards came, our ancestors used theater to worship their gods. Our history books tell this. Maybe what Karen meant when she quoted Tita Bibot is that theater is not a major part of the lifestyle of the Filipino masses.
