Having just got back from studying abroad in Italy, I miss the walkable cities so much. While I appreciate not having to rely on Ubers/public transit at home with my own car, it sucks that I can *only* get places if I drive, and that my local area has very little to do. Such an interesting topic
Rome (where I spent most of my time) was interesting bc nearly every walkable road was also a street a car could travel down. Knew some people who got hit (though thankfully they weren’t harmed at all) so it’s not perfect. The rail system there and in the other cities I visited was so cool though
Your analysis of the problem with cars & especially north american cities is exactly why I don’t want a car: they aren’t freedom, but an extra piece of baggage.
