I'm Japanese student. Now I study Ireland culture, and finally I found out this videos. It moves my heart. I hope this song would sing forever and spread all over the world!!!!
“And now I am full of tears”.. Excellent Irish blend! The flute, the violin, and the ballad melody of Maura O’Connell makes this song a heavenly music forever.
This song reminds me so much of my childhood. My father used to sing this song to me when I was younger. Would love to go back to those uncomplicated days again! 😢
I’m a mexican guy and discovered this song. I loved it’s wonderful! My mind it’s so big in musical likes so there are music from the thousands of countries and this is special.
@@janstrelinger4076Kate matison singing beside her . This is Maura,s song no doubt but Kate deserves a mention. Certainly the best version of this song in my opinion.
I learned this beautiful song when I lived in Galway, Ireland for 11 years. Now, back in Germany, I have performed it a few times with my own Galway Girl Laura. And for the past few months, this has been a standard lullaby for our 5-months-old half Irish-half-German daughter Tara. One of the most beautifully sentimental songs I have the fortune to know. Beautiful performance, too!
English for me used to be distant and far out of reach for me... and now I feel so fortunate to be surrounded with lots of great works written and performed in this language. I first read W. B. Yeats's Down by the Sally Gardens and I was deeply moved by how time flies and how it makes people's remembrance of the past have such a great impact upon all of us. And now, listening to this song performed by the very talented Irish singer Maura O'Connell makes me believe art is our universal language. True talents do stand the test of time!
Maura O'Connell is an angel!!! Every time I hear this song, it makes chill... But Maura brought tears to my eyes... No one will ever sing this song like her! It's perfection!!! Thank you for bringing us such wonderful song in a perfect voice!!
i first knew this lyrics as a peom of Yeats when I was in my 10th grade, and a few years after I realized that it has been composed as a beautiful song as well. I felt so related to the poem to some unknown reason, that it fills my eyes with tears every time I listen to it
This is THE best version of this beautiful song, for me. I hate it when opera singers take it on, it changes the whole context of the song! It's an Irish folk song and only singers like Maura can give it creedence. IMHO...So gorgeous thank you for posting. My choir is singing this, I hope we do it justice but it is your version I listen to.
Maura.."Fashion is fleeting but Styles as Yours Endures"! Our Irish lost Treasure! Please Sing again W B Yeats would have adored you..as I and all still do...with your voice of a Trush!!..It's purity and musical brilliance...brings appropriate tears! You are an Irish Icon..Please sing again!x John Co Tipperary.
I am Irish, to think I've never heard it until I saw Emma Thompson sing it and play the piano at the end of the movie...the tears wouldn't stop. I sought it out. Thanks to TH-cam Music I listen to Emma & Maura's version with tears and lost love....
Thank you gentlemen for your short sighted and totally uninterested remarks to this video. We herewith go back to the essence of Irish music and the story telling bit where it doesn't matter who is singing the song. Lovely sung and lovely song! Well done girls!
I am theoretically supposed to sing this at a concert but these ladies have set the standards so high I am actually scared! But not of your voices, they are so amazing!
So many different people from some many different countries find the beauty and the peace in this superb rendition. If only we could bring that beauty and peace out of this song and into the world. When the power of love overcomes the love of power then there will be peace. Stay safe Stay strong
Very well done people. The vocals were lovely as were the instruments. The dobro was a somewhat surprising addition to a traditional Irish ensemble, but woven in quite masterfully. All in all a tasteful and enchanting rendition.
Maura & Karan do Sally Gardens beautifully. When I was a teenager I was a drummer in a accordion band and won the all Ireland . For me personally its the timing that makes or breaks the song .
Did this song as a solo for a Solo/Ensemble Contest in my Sophomore Year of Highschool. Was my second favorite song to sing for Solo Ensemble, This was such a beautiful rendition and the slide in her voice is something I can only dream to be able to actually pull off!!
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Thank you, Maura O'Connell and Karen Matheson, and thank you, snootbaronet, for bringing this lovely version to TH-cam. W.B. Yeats is a consummate poet, and the song is set to the traditional melody, "The Maid of Mourne Shore".
I love this song.I first heard David Patrick Kelley sing and play it.Wow!!!:-O:-O:-):-D Maura is a wonderful singer too.:-):-D All the harmony is lovely.:-):-D

aww that's really sweet to hear. I'm glad you're enjoying our culture :) I used to be able to play this on the tin whistle
Yes it is a great song written by an Irish poet called W.B.Yeats.

This is the most beautiful and moving version of this song I have ever heard in my 71 years. Thank you so very much. Huzzah, from Texas.
Definitely Maura is the best
Agreed, and have heard many. Such a lovely song too.

I’ve seen that - they try to make too much into a classical opera song, and some of the feeling is lost
Except it's not an Irish folk song. It's a poem by W.B. Yeats that someone set to music.
Such a beautiful rendition. I wish I could 'like' this a million times.
Me too.
Yeah I agree👍👍👍
Je suis français. C'est la seule chanson que je peux fredonner de bout en bout . Merveilleuse chanson
Just another one of endless reasons to be proud of my Irish heritage🇮🇪🇺🇸
Eeww..
Your reply is odd
This was my Grandma's favorite song. Bittersweet memories.
One of the most heart touching lovely Irish songs! Really full of soul!
Brings tears to my eyes. Her voice is perfection for this song and the accompaniment superb.
When I was 13 we performed this song in my choir and I always thought it was so beautiful

but maura and karen are singing deep into the soul of anyone listening ...

This song helped me discover the beauty of the poetry of Yeats
When I was in middle choir this was the best song we ever sung. I still love it till this day. So much memory within one song!
A wonderful performance. Best wishes from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Maura & Karan do Sally Gardens beautifully. When I was a teenager I was a drummer in a accordion band and won the all Ireland . For me personally its the timing that makes or breaks the song .
That's a beautiful discription
有个中田美惠的版本也很好听 每个人都会糅合自己的感受演绎不一样的味道
We are learning this song in chorus right now and it is a super pretty song
