Professor Radhika Desai from University of Manitoba shares her views on China's development path, its unique practice of democracy and the China-U.S. relationship when she spoke to CGTN Radio reporter Xu Yawen.
Desai pointed out that Western countries benefited from imperialism and its vast colonies, while China had none of this. China has developed without the benefit of imperialism and was even a target of imperialism. "China is not trying to be a model, but there is a lot in China's experience that third world countries today and other countries can learn from," Desai said.

A very good take by Professor Radhika Desai. On how China has transformed itself from rag to inarguably one of the most competitive economy in the world today.
Penzai (pronounce bonsai in Japanese) is an ancient Chinese art traceable to the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907 AD). The Chinese word “penzai” literally means “tray planting.”
It is the art of growing and depicting artistically formed trees, shrubs in miniature landscapes in small and often shallow trays. The art demands careful and precise controlling and pruning where the plant is slowly shaped to give the appearance of an older, mature tree. The ultimate goal is for the tree to finally take on a shape that resembles how the tree would look growing in nature.
In order to achieve that desired effect, the bonsai master will at times allow the tree to flourish uncontrolled. At other times he would use of wires to control and shape its growth. If he exerts too much control, the tree dies. Lack of control, and the tree grows wild. It is through the act of balancing between allowing the tree to flourish and under controlled growth, he creates a master piece.
The Chinese economic planners fully appreciate that laissez-faire economics theory - the sole dependent on the equilibrium of supply and demand to efficiently direct the production of goods and services - is a fallacy. If left alone and let the market do its own thing, the wealth gap would aggravate with no protection of the inalienable rights of the masses against the minority rich and powerful. Hence, certain key economic functions are retained in the hand of the state. The recent regulatory framework designed to rein in the unfettered power of internet giants is another case in point.
The result - a more equitable and sustainable growth.

The analogy that Ambassador Qin should have used is not tripping the other athlete but to Tonya Harding your competitor...meaning kneecapping your opponent in the knee with a metal bar so that person can't walk or compete...at least tripping one still can get up and still have a small chance. Kneecapping, you are in the hospital and over a year of rehabilitation and it doesn't mean you will be 100% fit again. That is what Tonya Harding your competitor means. Tonya Harding an American figure skater who hired a thug to kneecap Nancy Kerrigan her "competitor", an American skater, in the knees before the US Olympics Trials. This is what I have been labeling this so-called competition for the last year, China being Tonya Harding by Uncle Sam.

Hmm, who is this professor? How come ive never heard of her or seen any interview with her before? She seems to understand china reasonably well and more importantly, she can see the big picture and see everything in it's proper context, like how she mentioned that china grew not only without imperialism, but also was contained and attacked the whole time by the imperialists trying to keep their I'll gotten gains. Usa may have not done as much direct imperialism as UK or eu countries, but didn't use take Hawaii, took phillipines, occupied Japan till now, took Mexicos land, and even wiped out all natives and took the whole continent basically along with Canada. Then let's not forget manifest destiny, Monroe doctrines, and so on.
Usa came to the game late, and thus had to do neo imperialism, where instead of directly occupying and having your countryman directly rule, they instead "regime change" and install a local puppet instead, and also give in the veneer of sovereignty and moral legitimacy.. it is far more sinister, since dictators can be assassinated and overthrown/removed etc, but overturning a whole established social system that has existed for centuries or even millenia is much much harder. Like ending monarchic systems that have been the only thing UK has known for millenia. China did it, which is also a great accomplishment and something all Chinese are proud of, but we are.also proud of our dynastic history also, since that is history, and back then that was the norm and all the world knew. China kept the best aspects of their system and culture, and then also took the best aspects of western systems, aka china used their brain and took all the world's knowledge and experiences, and applied them to Chinese culture and society to make it work for china. Meanwhile west is too egoistical and biased to even study Chinese system properly, even though it has produced miracle after miracle in the last 70 years.
If anything the west will be left behind, since it is developing countries and continents like Africa who is taking inspiration from china and they are the ones learning from china, while west still thinking they are the best and they are the center of the world still. Sorry but the center has returned to the original middle/central kingdom, china. They just don't know it yet and still think 15% in the west is representative of the world, and that they can ignore the 85% and still dominate the world. Sorry but they are the weaklings now compared with 85% of the world, they are the ones going to Africa and south America to always talk bad about china and to turn that 85% against china since they've started to realize the simple genius of china's belt and road/economic/diplomatic/tech plan. It's just win win, and don't be an asshole. As simple as that. And yet usa and west STILL cannot do it! Lol. They've deluded themselves so hard that they can't even admit the most basic facts anymore and admit that they are doing things in a fundamentally wrong way, like using sanctions and threats, and generally looking down at every countries not called china or Russia or in the west. They even still look down on Japan and sk as colonies, and they are, but sooner or later this will.come back to bite them in the ass as all their actions do. It's called blowback, and just like Iraq and Afghanistan and torture and all that, if all has negative consequences in the long run for usa and west.
Their imperialism and colonialism is now coming back to bite them, since china never colonised Africa or south America or middle east or Asia, so that already gives china a massive massive advantage in credibility. If everything else is equal they will still choose china just because of that. China has done more for Africa in terms of infrastructure and development in 50 years than whole of west has done in 500. And that's not even counting the negative developments, like slavery, genocide, debt traps, resource extraction, slave labor, etc. Basically everything they have done, they are now falsely accusing china of doing. But Africans and others who actually were debt trapped and who were colonised and slaves and
forced to labor away are not fooled, since china is not doing any of that, and that is usa and wests pure projection since they cannot understand why a powerful nation will go for win win and treat the weaker with respect when they can dominate in a zero sum way and just make demands that must be met... Or else.

In 1810, the United States consisted of only 13 colonies in north eastern part of North America. Then the US empire began its westward expansion in N. American continent conquering Spanish Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, Florida (in the south), New California (of Mexico) and Alaska to complete the entire continent. Other territories conquered include Hawaii (annexed to become a state), Puerto Rico, Guam, Marshal Is, and a secret military based Island in deep Indian Ocean. So, the rise of the hidden US Empire ( described by a History professor) is by military conquest and continued to this day. Its foreign policy and military expansion has not changed. The US vassals include all of European countries, and in the Asian countries like Japan, S.Korea, Phillipines (ruled over 50 yrs), Taiwan and recently Singapore (economic dominance in financial sector). All these countries hosted US military occupations with military bases. Not to mention Australia and NZ. No military occupation is needed in SG bcos it can easily be subdued and crippled by financial economic pressure in the banking industry. Why? Bcos SG had leveraged real estate long term investments and mortgages using low interst rate from the US banks. This reliance makes SG vulnerable. India too has to succumb to economic trade pressure. Most of India's IT services are highly dependent on the US. With this history, now you can compare and contrast the rise of China as described by prof Desai.

The world wants to modernize without ever becoming Western again - my modest job is to observe it, to analyze it, even if no one in the West and certainly not in the big institutions wants to hear it, is interested in it. hear because in fact they are not interested in development - only hedonism - yet this movement is remarkably intelligent and powerful.

she keeps saying china is "socialist",
fallacy of circular argument, known as petitio principii
    1) there is no universal free a)Healthcare,b)education,c)housing(or even nationalized subsidized govt housing),d)fully nationsilized natural resources(different mineral mining sites) which r in availaible in china in china.
    2) social ownership of the means of production - socialism
both of the points r not true for china, for which china is to be considered "socialist nation" is wrong.
even if no. 1 was true for china ,this would be a socialized system not a socialist economy, state.

Desai can say all the negative things about the US government or officials and still expect to be free and safe while traveling to the US. However, the same cannot be said about China.
I would love to see an article written by her that is critical of the CCP.

    Question to Desai,
When did China and CCP play a fair and proper economic game with the west?
Do you even understand the draconian rules and measures foreign corporations have to follow in China?

    • @proximamidnight1581
      @proximamidnight1581 ปีที่แล้ว

Question to you, when’s the west play fair ? They used cia to twist hands of potential competitors? It destroyed entire countries economies, and destroyed millions of lives to be able to control their labour, markets and resources.
Draconian measures are are part of protectionism to develop their own economy and also to be able to defend themselves from imperialism that comes on all shapes and forms from economic, military, cultural and ideological aspect.

"The words U$ and Democracy should not be used in the same sentence" is more like it. All levels of society are represented in China's government whereas U$' government only represents the 1%. For the people not the 1%. China is more of a democracy in my book.

So you think there's still not enough people criticizing China? Those poor underprivilege folks in U$, when can they get any attention from their government? Kids can't even go to school safely anymore in U$ and China is the one that has problems? Must be some upside down delusional world Americans are living in. Jesus!
