    Enjoyed this. My view is that Jim was on Tarsus for "summer camp". That is, as someone itching to get out into space, his parents might have arranged for him to have a trip to a colony to experience something new.

    Considering the fact this series only had three seasons, never had great primetime ratings, received little support from NBC, and produced a third season filled with episodes which bordered on flat out AWFUL, Star Trek sure had an amazingly powerful impact on the entire world!

      That's because STTOS was simply a vehicle for morality plays that Roddenberry was hoping to get by the censors in the guise of SciFi...the plots of the best episodes still resonate today and hold up well because the morality hasn't changed...we all can still understand the message implied...

      DNA can be damaged or destroyed, and in the case of large explosions or collapsed buildings, a person can be presumed dead with no trace of their body being identified.

      Those who study forensic science or the law should know that eyewitness testimony is terribly unreliable, especially 20 years after being a minor.
      No, the problem is that they found a picture of Kodos (and a recording of his speech). If people like Kirk, who were kids at the time, were the only ones to see him, then it implies there were no pictures of the governor, or DNA on file.
      In a technologically sophisticated society, people shouldn't be able to disappear into another identity, (or in the case of _Babylon 5_ be a leading industrialist and richest man on Mars with no photos existing of him). Any authority doing a background check of the troupe of actors should have found that Anton Karidian had no history before the Tarsus IV massacre of 4000 colonists.
      It would have been better if this person had always been Anton Karidian. That he was on the colony and took charge, assuming the role of "Governor Kodos" (masked) for the duration of the crisis, executed half the colonists, then returned to his original identity, with only a few kids seeing him unmasked. Maybe there could have been sketches or composite sketches by artists based on the traumatized children's testimony, that appeared on the view screen.
      So do that and take away the picture and voice recording and that would leave us with just a trail of bodies of the witnesses matching the movements of the theater troupe and Kirk and Riley's traumatic memories. Best bet would still be to call out the killer as was done. Would Spock have done a mind meld as happened in _Star Trek VI?_ On what grounds?

    Another error at 6:53. You cite that in the episode "Obsession" was the "last adventure" referencing Star Fleet Academy. However, in a later epsisode in season two "The Ultimate Computer" Kirk is called Captain Dunsel as he is described from "midshipmen at the academy" as a part that serves no purpose or is obsolete.

    • @BondFreek
      @BondFreek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never said it was his only adventure in the academy. I only used the most important parts of his past. These are the adventures that shaped who the real Captain Kirk was.

    When _Enterprise_ was in the works, I went back and watched or looked-up everything that was said to have happened 100 years earlier, with ships disappearing and the Romulan-Earth War. But it didn't matter because they just did what they felt like as if it was 30 years before Kirk and they had transporter technology for equipment. So I skipped it.
    When they did the reboot, they ignored Kirk's history as laid out in TOS. So his brother wasn't around and they just found his later bridge crew and put them there much earlier and before they earned it. In Season 1 a lot of people didn't work out on the bridge like in "Where No Man Has Gone Before", "The Corbomite Maneuver" and "Balance of Terror."
    Every time I read about them wanting to do a "Starfleet Academy" show with Kirk and Spock I want to vomit as I can't see them being at the Academy at the same time, and Bones was not an academy graduate, but was commissioned as a surgeon, like all those women scientist lieutenants we saw.

    you know, I don't think this is the first time the suggestion that Pike was about Kirk's age caught my attention. Wasn't Kirk supposed to be the youngest Captain in Star Fleet histoy? The events in the Menagerie I believe were supposed to be 11 years prior...If Pike was between 33-40 at the time they were talking, that would have made him what? 22-30 the firt time they went went to Talos?

    • @BondFreek
      @BondFreek 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The point is Captain Kirk is not and was not the youngest captain in Starfleet. Nowhere in Star Trek does it say Captain Kirk was the youngest Captain ever in Starfleet. In fact the youngest person to make Captain oh, actually the fastest person to make Captain wasn't until 78 years later like Captain Tryler Scott. Unfortunately she dies same episode where introduced to her.(Star Trek next Generation conspiracy).

    • @BondFreek

      Remember Pike was about Captain Kirk's age. Not the same age as Kirk. The term "about your age" means that Kirk is between 5 and 10 years difference between him and Pike.

    • @williamanthony9090

      I just go by the actors age for ship captains. Jeffery Hunter was born in 1926. William Shatner was born in 1931.
      Hunter was 6 years older than Shatner.
      So, maybe Pike was 7 or 8 years older than Kirk. All I know about Pike was he was in his early 40's during The Cage incident. He took command of the Enterprise in 2250 after Robert April.

Go back and look at Star Trek II When Spock says as i recall you took the test three times yourself. Your final solution should i say unique. Martial law is declared when a ruler wants to suspend normal law & order in order to be a king or absolute ruler for as long as his/she wants to rule. The present ruler of Venezuela is such a person.

      @@larryray3178 - That night be so, but that's NOT the purpose of marital law. A ruler that uses martial law to impose a dictatorship is subverting the law to meet his own needs.
      Traditionally, martial law is meant to be used during times of emergencies when civil control is overwhelmed and unable to function normally. It is meant to be implemented during a crisis, and only used until that crisis has passed.
