Back in late May 2013 my wife and I took this train's southbound version from Auckland to Wellington. It was a fabulous trip. The train was immaculate. The equipment was modern, spacious, and comfortable. The service from the moment we entered Britomart in Auckland until we detrained in Wellington was efficient and friendly.
We'd love to do it again, but what I'm writing about today is something I noticed as the train departed Wellington.
The Right of Way was spotless, utterly devoid of trash and litter and -- it stayed that way.
My having noticed this obvious condition was somewhat like re-reading a book and wondering how I could possibly have missed something so obvious the first time around.
New Zealand is THE cleanest place on Earth. Kiwis can be justifiably proud of it.

We found just the same. Very clean, helpful staff, comfortable seats with plenty of leg room. And the most
Marvellous scenery. We would do it again tomorrow if we were not twelve thousand miles away!

There were two good views of the mountains, one or two good river crossings. The best part of this video was the jet approaching at the end. This was not nearly as good for views as other videos. Seems like there was lot more to see between Auckland and an hour south. Maybe the view from the highway we had was better: the sheep trails around the hills sure showed up better than anything I saw on this video. But thanks for the memories. New Zealand is beautiful.

We still need to do this train journey! We have just done the Taieri Gorge in Dunedin which was super stunning!

I just finished watching the entire video. Looked like it was a fun ride, certainly a nice way to spend a day, looking at the beautiful scenery. Do they serve food and drinks on the train?

+Yasunari Ishii There was a refreshment car and the train also stopped for that for 25 minutes.

Great video! Does someone know how long this trip from Wellington to Auckland takes and how much it costs? Thank you!

+Yunginspirit Can't remember the cost off hand, but I think it was around $150-200 per person and takes about 10 hours or so

Its amazing what NZ has achieved with such a tiny population of taxpayers. Go Kiwi!

Pretty sure China helped NZ build these trains and railways
