I bought a pair of webbers but the top where the T-bar is is too thick to go through the slot in my stirrups. Can you recommend a brand that are thin at the top that will fit through a standard stirrup slot? They are normal plastic cheese grater stirrups
Please help me as I don’t know which size to order 😩 If a T bar leather is measured at 70cm is that the longest length they reach or the shortest? Thank you 😄
I have come across stirrup leathers made of 2 layers of plain leather glewed to one another. They usually tend to get of each other. Another kind are stirrup leathers made of chrome tanned pre stretched leather. What do you think about them?
The ones with two layers glued together tend to be cheaper, as they're usually made from the thinner leather - hence having to have two strip stuck together to make them strong. Personally I'd rather have one single thick layer of leather. The chrome leather is very strong, lots of the modern saddles have chrome leather girth straps. The pre-stretched part doesn't mean they won't stretch but it should help a little. :) Hope that helps x
There are a few decent ones. Bates make nice ones, don't be tempted by the synthetic ones (eg Wintec) as they can scratch a leather saddle. Henry James Saddlery make nice ones too. We do them at PeeWee Saddlery too. But there's a bit of a wait on ours at the moment.
Just found your channel, thank you, very interesting. With the T-bar leathers, is there a correct way that the “T” should be facing, ie the top of the T towards the saddle or away from the saddle - hope that makes sense!
I like to have the t facing away from the saddle... to make sure the saddle isn’t damaged. But use the little sleeve things to protect the leg from the T. There isn’t a correct or incorrect way though. I just like to think of the saddle more than the leg ;)
My stirrup leathers are so hard to bend. I got the nylon 54 inch length and 1 inch wide from Nunn Finer they were around 100$ Supposedly high quality. Putting them on my jointed stirrups was so so hard and then once they were on they weren’t pliable. Like I feel like I need to stand on them to flatten them. Is this normal? Do I just need to break them in? I have never actually bought brand new leathers before so that’s why I’m asking..is this normal
Are they one single strip of leather? If so, condition them ad use them and they'll soften. Or... do they look like bits of leather stitched together- do they have stitches down the length of the leather? if so, they might not soften so much.
You deserve alot more subscribers!
Thank you! Xx
Great video, very nicely explained. 👏👏👏
