Opened in 1853, St George’s Hall is situated in the heart of Bradford City centre. A stunning Victorian Concert Hall it was the brainchild of Bradford Mayor, Samuel Smith conceived as a place where the communities of Bradford could gather to be inspired by the world’s best music and entertainment.
Today this vision continues and audiences are treated to a wide variety of events, from top comedians to wonderful family shows, fascinating talks and of course great music concerts. With world class acoustics St George’s Hall hosts a classical music season welcoming world renowned orchestras, including The Hallé to the stage.
To learn more about the history of St George’s Hall - the People’s Palace visit our Heritage website here.
From 2016 St George’s Hall underwent a 3 year major refurbishment, which was made possible by funding from Bradford Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The extensive refurbishment of this much loved building included a wide-range of work both to its exterior and interior. As well as major works to the roof, windows, electrics and stonework, the front-of-house areas have been increased, where possible, and have been decorated sympathetically to suit the heritage of the building. Brand new seats were installed and facilities were improved for customers with disabilities including an installation of a lift (inside the venue from the main bar to stalls level), more wheelchair positions and easy access toilet facilities.

As a schoolboy I sang in the choir behind the Halle Orchestra, circa 1960. The memory is still fresh in my mind.

Just discovered your fantastic channel, guys! I've lived in or near Bradford all my life. I'm 71 now and really enjoying finding out things I didn't know. I saw Emerson Lake and Palmer there twice back in the day and, although I've been many times since then, I still associate the place with them.

That was interesting, been in there so many times for gigs, sadly they dwindled out which is the fault of the booking agent who should have kept bringing bands back.
Nowadays we have to travel to other cities to see bands when they could be booked to play here in a better historic venue.
Maybe an update vlog on the Odeon would be great.
    Thanks.

Great building. Many of my older family members saw bands such as Free, Mott the Hoople, Yes, Genesis with Peter Gabriel, ELP, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and many many more. The acoustics are top class. It has recently been refurbished, it deserves better bookings than what has been booked in recent years. Just finished watching the video, excellent with great content.

Always sticking up for the under dog! Keep up the fantastic channel lads. Perhaps you. could do a video on your part in Bradfords history?

Very interesting video, I didn’t realize the building was so old. We saw the Everly brothers, Duane Eddy, Hank Marvin and Brian Bennett there. It was good to see what the acts see when on stage.

Have the Halle Orchestra returned? I never experienced such a memorable concert than their performance of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony at St George’s in the early ‘80’s. The acoustics were phenomenal…

They are few posters from the late 1950s and early 60s. Cliff Richard and the Drifters, in 1959, and Jerry Lee Lewis in 1962, somehow you miss them, but i'm not too surprise
