Quite amazing to hear the great master and legend Dr. Trichy Sankaran Sir speaking about his life, contributions, and achivements. As he said he adores and sticks to the traditional style. Sri.Sankaran, for all his tall attainments in the field and also his profound musical scholarship, he is too humble. I chanced to meet him briefly on a couple of occassions, once at his Abhiramapuram residence at chennai during a December series more than 10 years ago, and also once at Trivandrum in his hotel room. His polite and unassuming demeanour instantly infused in me a great respect and love for him. His humility for all his tall stature in the music field is exemplary. We might have lost Pazhani Sri.Subramanya Pillai, but that great legend, Pazhani, has left behind him another great legend in Sri.Sankaran for the continuity of his percussion school and legacy. Every time when I lend my audience to Sri.Sankaran both as an accompanist and also while listening to his percussion solos in concerts, it is nothing but surreal ecstasy which used to moist my eyes. My prayer to God for blessing him with a long life with sound health so that the audience like us shall have the fortune of listening to him more and more of his percussion repertoires and musical manodharmams.
