Haven't watched the video yet but the ryzen 5 5600x is selling for 10-20 bucks less than a 10700k so I'm really wondering if it will live up to thay price tag. Like I suppose it does better in some games but at that price it is really not good. I suppose I'll see what intel 10 nm will be like or if the prices will come down again after the huge price hike.
Basically clock speeds matter more for games, as long as there are more than 4 cores. And it's pretty much clear that Ry5000 series/Zen 3 has a massively better design, which helps it gain better performance "Instructions Per Cycle/IPC" even in a way lower clock speed than what's possible for Intel's 5+GHz [lmao, Intel, catch up please]. But anyways, I would like to Compare it to Intel's upcoming lake (whatever is that, my peanut brain can't remember them).

Archiving the intel compiler effectees in a massive software purchasing campaign, then, a return of the windows 10 optimization generalized drivers image. I can promise a minimum even with modern build restraints of over a full multiplier on any CPU purely in CPU cycle savings. It, to be a viable release, will have to have a maintain sequence for security, and I will also provision a step by step method to do it oneself which is already pretty much complete needing a handful of changes considering its based on a heavily extinct build that wouldnt be secure, nor would it allow the use of modern nvidia hardware.

I think people should pay more attention to the 1% lows, however, as human perception is going to be able to notice that difference more. Even so, it still outpaces the 10600k most of the time, so yeh it’s still a killer
I had such a horror-story when I was a kid with amd K6 and then whichever was a slot-mount, K7/Athlon(?) for years when I couldn't afford anything close to a 'good' pc, that I swore never to buy an AMD again... And then I got an intel i7 3770k with an actual air-gap under the IHS and didn't realise until it was too late to swap. And I STILL got an i5 10th gen this summer... At the time, it was sort of 'better' for games, I told myself. But these numbers on the new AMD chips... they're not just competitive, they're incredible. I'll pretend I don't want to be an early adopter rather than that I can't afford to switch up, but I think in future I'll bury the hatchet and go AMD.
You could actually game for hours on end at max FPS without turning your room into a sauna. I don't know why AMD were saying the 5900X is the "ultimate gaming CPU" instead.
@@Austin1990 the problem is that any gains which you can theoretically get with AVX512 (vs AVX2) can be offset by droping frequencies once those instructions are used. Also, if you're serious about machine learning tasks, you'll need a GPU anyway.

It makes sense for AMD to milk the thirsty early adopters and trust fund babies into buying their X skus but once Zen 3 gets to the point where it isn't selling out the moment they hit shelves, AMD is going to have to get around to releasing the more value oriented (Non-X) portion of Zen 3 for the rest of us.

This CPU is good... I just pray for Intel to pull through in March with Rocket Lake and regain positions, otherwise it will completely lose and AMD will stagnate or start being even more sharky with pricing

They got my 4790k on a good board and it's better than whatever part they scraped together before. When they upgrade, I get those parts back and and awesome gaming server chip.

Cool just ordered 5600x for 125 EUR thats about 130$ now I am switching back to team red AMD , back in day I built budget AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE system, tried FX series CPU but they sucked - wasn't real hexa core or octa core cpu's due to architecture! Switched back to Intel with Core i5-4690K CPU and now back to AMD

Linus said that IF Intel boost a ~18% ipc Performance on a 8 core top of the line processor, without a drop in frequency, we may end up in status quo again (Intel better in gaming, amd in everything else). We as users get the best possibile experience when the companies fight against each other in every field. And since we are gamers and those CPUs are mainly made for us (especially till the ~400 range), the best possibile scenario for us is when Intel and AMD fight back to each other. So AMD releases better processors than Intel, and Intel releases better processors than Intel a few months later.
This here convinced me to switch to AMD. I was going to buy a i7-10700K because it seemed to be the best balanced option for my future build but i still have some time to wait for new PC parts to come out and seeing the R5 5600X outperform the i7-10700K in almost EVERY single chart is just perfect. It also seems to be cheaper which makes it even more perfect since i have a very limited and uncertain budged. Thank you!
In your position I would spend some more to get an 8 cores 16 threads cpu, just to avoid any problems in late-gen games that may not be very optimized for core/thread counts lower than consoles or some heavy games. You just need to encounter one game you really like being bottlenecked in your cpu to wish having spent more in the cpu.
Well, here in UK 5600x is 90£ cheapper than the 10700k, well worth the money although depending on your budget you could get the 5700x and get the newest amd graphics cards with their new boost amd cpu+amd gpu technology.
So glad I managed to snag a 5600x. I was initially looking for the 5800x but it seems I lucked out in not being able to get one and "settling" on a 5600x instead
@@ThunderGoatz yes i also feel like the 5800X is more futureproof than the 5600X . Inevitably the meta will change from 6 to 8 cores, as it did from 2 to 4 and from 4 to 6. Curious to see what the story here will be on the 5800X. It looked just fine in other benchmarks i saw.
You didn't settle, at all. 5600X is a smart grab. AM5 is around the corner in a couple of years and with this chip you'll be able to ride out that AM5 launch and upgrade after stock settles on AM5 chips and motherboards. Cuz you know......those will go out of stock within 10 minutes. This is the way.
Thank you for all the hard work. The 5600X is an amazing cpu! I think AMD under promised and over delivered this time. Hard to be mad that it's more expensive than the R5 3600 when it's beating the 10900K in a lot of places.
AMD never over promises. It is the idiot tech tubers who spend 9+ months before and AMD release talking about leaks, rumours and stories instead of waiting until AMD release actual real information. Just learn to read only official information and you'll never be dissapointed ;) (and you will be smarter).
It's better to underpromise here. Now their GPU benchmarks have a little more validity because the general public is more likely to think they're valuing down. Their GPUs are gonna sell like hotcakes.
Yeah regarding the underpromise thing it is personally better to face this kind of claim, the moment I saw GN's research on this 5600X's performance review, dude I was grinning so hard silently when my parents were around Like finally, Intel is left in the dust. Not that they can't catch up but just finally AMD has the upper lead in performance this time. Also since this 5600X is rated 65W by AMD I wonder just how cut down would the regular 5600 be, if it turns out there are going to be no 5600, then, I guess Imma snag for 5600X some time later, not sure as well if SAM is going to be in my consideration tho prolly just going to hunt for used GTX 1070 and a X470 motherboard
Omg I read this comment and was reminded that at one point I owned a 3770k myself. That was so long ago omg. What a throwback. Beast of a cpu. Currently I own 2 pc's one with a 10700k and a 2080 super another with a 5600x with a rx 6700xt. Not going to lie the amd system is a bit better.
@@majdsy1146 well, K10 from 2005 was still good enough. Intel's Core 2, bribing and AMD's acquisition of ATi proved to cause losses to AMD back then. But see how the turntables again. Let's be honest, 5 years back, we least expected AMD to be here now.
@@majdsy1146 Go back further. In mid 90s, AMD was beating Intel's rear and at a better price. The 300mhz AMD systems ran circles around a 400mhz Pentium 2 from Intel. And this is from a time when clock speeds had a greater role in performance.
I know this video is 3 years old but even today, it's still useful. Newer builders have a lot to learn from just the graphs and info on these videos. It's much appreciated.
i got 5600x system with 3080 and a system with 5800 and 6800xt... both pretty identical speeds and load speeds. it would last another 7 years before its time to get rid of it
@Earthplayer 7nm would give Intel huge advantage. But they didn't. And that's their fault trying to milk their old fab and make more money. Everything being equal, AMD has a huge power consumption lead because of 7nm.
@Earthplayer its not even a all arounder CPU like ryzen cpus (they already werent even during zen2 era), keep in mind that intel CPUs now need insane OCs to keep the things under control and have the same level of performance, expensive motherboards (z mobos hello), expensive cooling and mostly trully good for some gaming scenarios while competing vs the competitor, when it offers at literaly half of the price/power consumption (you can literally pick a gigabyte ds3h and a 5600x and slap on it (70$ on microcenter) and a 5600X and you already have something for gaming almost close to the 10900K, where you can use the cooler box and multicore performance close to the 3700X. Its not even close, Intel is finished unless you have specific use cases rn. And on intel platform you'll end up spending more anyway, as always. Not really justified at this point, at least for new builders.
Cores don’t matter much at all. 4 core processors can match 8 core processors in many cases. Actually, I think the 3300X could be neck and neck with the 3950X sometimes.

Intel: Let's not talk about benchmarks, games, office nor productivity apps.. Also let's not talk about power consumption or price.. Or security.. For last 3 years Intel spent too much time talking about how their CPU's perform better in "Real World" apps instead of working for the day when they are just obliterated across the stack

This is what proper progress looks like: the 3600X is better than or equal to the 2700X and now the 5600X does the same to the 3700X. AMD are beating themselves and Intel.
@@f-22raptor25 do it, my cpu was bottlenecking bad, doubled my fps. i also went from ddr3 16gb 1600mhz ram to ddr4 32gb 3200mhz, and from a sata ssd to m.2 nvme. Im pretty happy with the performance. I tried the 3060 in my old system before upgrading the rest

Looks like a great CPU. I'm on a 3600/B550 setup at the moment so staying with 6 cores is not the route for me when I upgrade to 5000 series down the line but it's great to see how much extra performance AMD is getting each gen.
You gotta be happy knowing you could go two ways: same gaming performance but more productivity with Zen 2 8-12 core, fairly inexpensively; or spring for best gaming AND productivity. The world is your oyster
I skipped the 3000 series, have 2700x and my gpu is still good 2080ti.... so, just might be the right time to get upgrade my CPU and just waiting for 5800x review before deciding.

I did intended to buy it, but after 3 months of wait I was offered R5 3600 instead for ~€50 more. I still have the intention to buy R9 5900 sometimes next year, unless politicians will be so stubborn to cause economic collapse, due to corona BS!
@@chartabona Similar story here. Was waiting for intel to release another Q6600 or 2600k bombshell ... and now it's 8 years later with them mostly churning out crap. When my i7-2600k's OC started degrading from 4.8GHz to just barely 4GHz early this year (after 8 years!), I bit the bullet and bought a 3700X + ROG Strix X470-F + 32GB Crucial Ballistix 3200. Other than the boosting behavior being utterly retarded compared to intel (taskmanager open = CPU boosting to 4.4 for no reason) it's been amazing so far. Guess I'll have to wait and see if the X470-F gets any BIOS update for Zen 3... might drop one in next year if that happens, and even if not it's still a solid platform. First AMD as a main rig since the Athlon XP 3000+ on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe :D
Amd has done what intel should have done years ago.. specially with their ageing architecture from 2014!!.. amd improved performance by more than 20% without increasing power consumption and also put single core and multi core performance on top!
TBH Intel didn't have any serious competition for so long, the only surprising thing is that when AMD started to pull ahead, Intel didn't use their massive market share lead to invest and push ahead harder, and earlier.

Sandy Bridge is based on Westmere from 2010. Westmere is based on Lynnfield from 2009. Lynnfield is based on Nehalem from 2008. Nehalem is based on Core from 2006. Yonah is based on Pentium M from 2003. Pentium M is based on Pentium III from 1999. Pentium III is based on Pentium II from 1997. Pentium II is based on Pentium Pro from 1995. Pentium Pro was a new architecture, built from the ground up, and wasn't based on anything. Intel hasn't successfully built a NEW architecture since 1995! (Pentium 4 and Itanium were new but they were a failure.) Why won't Intel build a new architecture? AMD built a new architecture in 2017 with very little money for R&D.

I bet my fathers 4770 will be at same performance with a 10900k if u down clock the ram to (or set the ddr4 to 2400mhz single channel on i9 & ddr3 to 1600mhz on dual channel on 4770) . And set the i9 to 4core and set the click to 3.9ghz to match the 4770😂 and it will turn out to be right at same performance .
Gains are so little now that it doesn't matter. The difference between 200 fps and 350 fps is negligible even with a 240hz monitor. Let's all just be happy were not on console.

Really feels like AMD's current day equivalent of Sandy Bridge! Happy to see AMD's success, but also hoping Intel doesn't slump as hard as AMD did previously. Both sides remaining competitive would be a great win for us consumers
AMD just made some godly cpus but what I see is only a 5% better gaming performance over intel. Intel will get at least 10 % ipc gain on 11th gen so i guess they will be back on top by about 5% on an 6 year outdated 14 mm ++++++++++++. If intel is intelligent,they will start a price war. Just so you know I’m on an 3900x system. As much as people praise amd now they only just catch up intel 6 years old 14 mm tech .
@@pascalfilion3518 Zen 4 architecture is going to be even more insane. I don't see how Intel can fight back in the next 3 years at least when they're stuck with 14nm for their upcoming lineup and 10nm for the one after that by which time AMD will be at 5nm.

I would be curious to see if enabling "Game Mode" in Ryzen Master would bring the 5900X and 5950X back above 5600X in some of those tests, since it would in effect disable one of the CCDs, making them essentially a 5600X/5800X but with a higher boost rating.
Game mode is actually only to be used in Threadripper series CPU's. In the normal Ryzen lineup, it will degrade performance, or that's the results we get.
I bought my 2700X from Micro center in February 2020 for 150$ before COVID hit and everything changes, glad to see it can still compete and is still a beast of its own.

Damn, Steve and the team really do work hard giving us the best in depth reviews in the community. Thanks for all you guys do!! I’m slightly disappointed that benchmarks are all at 1080p however. For anyone debating upgrading that plays at 1440p, ultrawide or 4K there will hardly be any difference in performance in most titles. www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-5-5600x/16.html. My 3600 died last week and amazon refunded me. I just went with a 3700x as I play at 3440x1440. Plus after the rat race for the 3080, I just can’t deal with the stress again hahaha.
Yeah, I noticed this too. But I wonder if the 5600X (or perhaps the 5600 if there will be one) would provide better performance for multitasking and future-proofing for CPU demanding games. For example, I like to have Chrome, Spotify, Discord open while playing games and they can use up a decent amount of the CPUs performance. I would love to see an Arma 3 gameplay comparing the (Ryzen 5) 5600X vs 3600 but I couldn't even find any gameplay of Arma 3 with 5600X yet. That game is famous for only using 1 core.
I also managed to get the 3600x for about the same price as 3600. With the improved silicon quality of the more recent CPUs, i can hit 4.5 Ghz on most cores under light loads with PBO and auto OC so pretty much a stock 3600XT. Think i will keep this for another year or so before going for the 5800x.
I'm keen to see how this works but I've been around long enough that I'm terrified of entering crash city with something like the Smart Access Memory configuration.

I saw one reviewer was having issues with the 5600x playing Warzone. Hopefully it's not a common issue.

It, to be a viable release, will have to have a maintain sequence for security, and I will also provision a step by step method to do it oneself which is already pretty much complete needing a handful of changes considering its based on a heavily extinct build that wouldnt be secure, nor would it allow the use of modern nvidia hardware.

The reasoning is that at its pricepoint its when people usually go 1440p anyways and thats where the gap is less than at 1080p. Over here, u can almost get a 3900x for the same price, or just get a 3700x for a lot cheaper and even the former (or still?) budget king 3600 is worth considering, especially when these all go on sale now the zen 3 is here. Imo it seems waiting for the non-x 5600 or 5700x will be worth it for a lot of people.

I had such a horror-story when I was a kid with amd K6 and then whichever was a slot-mount, K7/Athlon(?) for years when I couldn't afford anything close to a 'good' pc, that I swore never to buy an AMD again...
And then I got an intel i7 3770k with an actual air-gap under the IHS and didn't realise until it was too late to swap. And I STILL got an i5 10th gen this summer...
At the time, it was sort of 'better' for games, I told myself. But these numbers on the new AMD chips... they're not just competitive, they're incredible.
I'll pretend I don't want to be an early adopter rather than that I can't afford to switch up, but I think in future I'll bury the hatchet and go AMD.

Adobe has already been working on neural net tools. It could be very interesting to see how they perform.
@@Austin1990 the problem is that any gains which you can theoretically get with AVX512 (vs AVX2) can be offset by droping frequencies once those instructions are used. Also, if you're serious about machine learning tasks, you'll need a GPU anyway.

Cool just ordered 5600x for 125 EUR thats about 130$ now I am switching back to team red AMD , back in day I built budget AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE system, tried FX series CPU but they sucked - wasn't real hexa core or octa core cpu's due to architecture! Switched back to Intel with Core i5-4690K CPU and now back to AMD

And since we are gamers and those CPUs are mainly made for us (especially till the ~400 range), the best possibile scenario for us is when Intel and AMD fight back to each other.

This here convinced me to switch to AMD. I was going to buy a i7-10700K because it seemed to be the best balanced option for my future build but i still have some time to wait for new PC parts to come out and seeing the R5 5600X outperform the i7-10700K in almost EVERY single chart is just perfect. It also seems to be cheaper which makes it even more perfect since i have a very limited and uncertain budged.

In your position I would spend some more to get an 8 cores 16 threads cpu, just to avoid any problems in late-gen games that may not be very optimized for core/thread counts lower than consoles or some heavy games. You just need to encounter one game you really like being bottlenecked in your cpu to wish having spent more in the cpu.
Well, here in UK 5600x is 90£ cheapper than the 10700k, well worth the money although depending on your budget you could get the 5700x and get the newest amd graphics cards with their new boost amd cpu+amd gpu technology.

You didn't settle, at all. 5600X is a smart grab. AM5 is around the corner in a couple of years and with this chip you'll be able to ride out that AM5 launch and upgrade after stock settles on AM5 chips and motherboards. Cuz you know......those will go out of stock within 10 minutes. This is the way.

@Earthplayer 7nm would give Intel huge advantage. But they didn't. And that's their fault trying to milk their old fab and make more money. Everything being equal, AMD has a huge power consumption lead because of 7nm.
@Earthplayer its not even a all arounder CPU like ryzen cpus (they already werent even during zen2 era), keep in mind that intel CPUs now need insane OCs to keep the things under control and have the same level of performance, expensive motherboards (z mobos hello), expensive cooling and mostly trully good for some gaming scenarios while competing vs the competitor, when it offers at literaly half of the price/power consumption (you can literally pick a gigabyte ds3h and a 5600x and slap on it (70$ on microcenter) and a 5600X and you already have something for gaming almost close to the 10900K, where you can use the cooler box and multicore performance close to the 3700X.
Its not even close, Intel is finished unless you have specific use cases rn. And on intel platform you'll end up spending more anyway, as always. Not really justified at this point, at least for new builders.
Cores don’t matter much at all. 4 core processors can match 8 core processors in many cases. Actually, I think the 3300X could be neck and neck with the 3950X sometimes.
So basically it's the best value gaming chip, and as an added bonus, the stock power draw is less than an r3 3300x.
tbh, 300$, the ryzen 5 3600 will probably be the value king still.
Power draw low enough to where you might be able to run a full loop, with an rtx 3080 OC on a 240mm rad without supersonic jet engine fans.

Looks like a great CPU. I'm on a 3600/B550 setup at the moment so staying with 6 cores is not the route for me when I upgrade to 5000 series down the line but it's great to see how much extra performance AMD is getting each gen.
You gotta be happy knowing you could go two ways: same gaming performance but more productivity with Zen 2 8-12 core, fairly inexpensively; or spring for best gaming AND productivity. The world is your oyster
There's no need for you to upgrade to any Zen 3 architecture. You're good until Zen 4 releases or mature.

Other than the boosting behavior being utterly retarded compared to intel (taskmanager open = CPU boosting to 4.4 for no reason) it's been amazing so far. Guess I'll have to wait and see if the X470-F gets any BIOS update for Zen 3... might drop one in next year if that happens, and even if not it's still a solid platform. First AMD as a main rig since the Athlon XP 3000+ on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe :D

Amd has done what intel should have done years ago.. specially with their ageing architecture from 2014!!.. amd improved performance by more than 20% without increasing power consumption and also put single core and multi core performance on top!
TBH Intel didn't have any serious competition for so long, the only surprising thing is that when AMD started to pull ahead, Intel didn't use their massive market share lead to invest and push ahead harder, and earlier.
AMD needed Zen3 to beat a 6 years old architecture. That also tells you how far behind they were. Glad it finally equalized :)

Why won't Intel build a new architecture? AMD built a new architecture in 2017 with very little money for R&D.

I bet my fathers 4770 will be at same performance with a 10900k if u down clock the ram to (or set the ddr4 to 2400mhz single channel on i9 & ddr3 to 1600mhz on dual channel on 4770) . And set the i9 to 4core and set the click to 3.9ghz to match the 4770😂 and it will turn out to be right at same performance .

AMD just made some godly cpus but what I see is only a 5% better gaming performance over intel. Intel will get at least 10 % ipc gain on 11th gen so i guess they will be back on top by about 5% on an 6 year outdated 14 mm ++++++++++++. If intel is intelligent,they will start a price war. Just so you know I’m on an 3900x system. As much as people praise amd now they only just catch up intel 6 years old 14 mm tech .

@@pascalfilion3518 Zen 4 architecture is going to be even more insane. I don't see how Intel can fight back in the next 3 years at least when they're stuck with 14nm for their upcoming lineup and 10nm for the one after that by which time AMD will be at 5nm.
Finally my Microcenter got a big restock of AMD 5000 series CPUs, was able to get a 5600x at MSRP :)

I would be curious to see if enabling "Game Mode" in Ryzen Master would bring the 5900X and 5950X back above 5600X in some of those tests, since it would in effect disable one of the CCDs, making them essentially a 5600X/5800X but with a higher boost rating.
Game mode is actually only to be used in Threadripper series CPU's. In the normal Ryzen lineup, it will degrade performance, or that's the results we get.
I bought my 2700X from Micro center in February 2020 for 150$ before COVID hit and everything changes, glad to see it can still compete and is still a beast of its own.

I’m slightly disappointed that benchmarks are all at 1080p however. For anyone debating upgrading that plays at 1440p, ultrawide or 4K there will hardly be any difference in performance in most titles.

My 3600 died last week and amazon refunded me. I just went with a 3700x as I play at 3440x1440. Plus after the rat race for the 3080, I just can’t deal with the stress again hahaha.

But I wonder if the 5600X (or perhaps the 5600 if there will be one) would provide better performance for multitasking and future-proofing for CPU demanding games.
For example, I like to have Chrome, Spotify, Discord open while playing games and they can use up a decent amount of the CPUs performance.
I would love to see an Arma 3 gameplay comparing the (Ryzen 5) 5600X vs 3600 but I couldn't even find any gameplay of Arma 3 with 5600X yet. That game is famous for only using 1 core.
I have a 3600x. My brother bought it for me, and he's usually a very pragmatic person. Apparently, the difference in price was something like $5.
I also managed to get the 3600x for about the same price as 3600. With the improved silicon quality of the more recent CPUs, i can hit 4.5 Ghz on most cores under light loads with PBO and auto OC so pretty much a stock 3600XT. Think i will keep this for another year or so before going for the 5800x.

Yeah, 21h after launch, my local retailer still have dozens of 5600x chips in stock. Excellent availability.
The closest microcenter to me (25 min) had 5 5600x at 3 pm.
