Prominent Israeli/Jewish people have a very deep, influential footprint in the entertainment industry. Big names, who will never speak out. Yesterday I watched a movie with Matt Damon that included a subtle joke about Israel shrinking Palestinians. What made you think that these celebrities are brilliant enough to understand what is going on in Gaza ! They got rich without thinking and doing what they are told and being pretty. Dont expect anything from them and there is nothing to adore them.
It’s because People expect celebrities to have basic social awareness and political acumen. As if they are not just modern day court jesters who work for corporations instead of royalty.
There could be a case for musical artists, if they were actually like bards and poets who made commentaries about the social climate back in the day but artists now mostly sing about smoking weed and clapping cheeks.
Disappointment comes from looking up to them like journalists, world leaders, scholars, and social activists.
While there exist celebrities that have taken those roles consistently, they are very rare. If people really want celebrities that are informed and empathetic to the state of the world then they should stop pressuring celebrities. They should let the ones with real concern come out with the goodness of their heart, that way they know it’s not a performance put on by popular demand.
