this is sound advice ! My wife is a good business minded professional , and helped me get into a top gallery many years ago in the age of slides ( artist's pretty much HAD to send slides prior to 16 years ago) her advice was perfect and similar here : send the package via USPS , wait for 3-4 days for it to arrive , wait another 1-2 days and call. Lo and behold, as she predicted, the Owner answered and said " Oh yes, I have that right here on my desk" and proceeded to study the materials as we spoke. Timing is everything, as the packet would have been swept aside or buried within a couple of days.Of corse, the timing is much shorter by todays methods....

this is the best. thank you for explaining the consistent, professional follow up. Will be implementing immediately.

I think this absolutely a great approach. I found in the past that having the last line of when I was going to follow back up on a contact was essential to me actually following back up. Not only did it set their expectations and prove to them that I could follow through, but it took away any excuse I was going to try and tell myself when I knew it was time to pick up the phone.

yes! i think what you say about their expectations is also true, that I didn't mention - when you follow up- its true - it does show that you are a determined professional - and that alone is a good sign :)

Brainard, thank you so much for all these great videos that you've put out. I contacted a number of galleries today, and a few of them told me that they are not looking at new artists right now but to send images anyway. One gallery told me that they like to stay on top of what's new that's going on and I suspect that may be the reason the other galleries also told me to send images. Should I still follow up with those galleries in 2 days?

Why do you suggest a followup in 2 days vs. 3 days, 5 days, a week?

Hi Brainard. I've reached out to about 20 galleries now, and one of the answers I've been hearing is "if the owner is interested, he/she will get back to you." By continuing to call them and ask if they've looked at my work yet I fell like I'm risking annoying them. But like you say, silence won't do, and I don't think it's too much to ask for a solid answer from gallery owners/ directors. What would you do in this situation? Would you continue to call them in two days each time you speak to the gallery?
