  • Finding The Best Compressor Plugin for Mixing will be explained in this Compression Tutorial. Rare Mixing Tips will help you to find the Best Plugins for Mixing. A professional Audio Engineering teacher shares unique Mixing Tips on a Compressor for Drums and a Compressor for Vocals from his Online Mixing Course. To Attend a free trial Class of this Audio Production Course send email to: mixingcourse@andrewzeleno.com
    In This Video We Will Talk About: We will be learning new things you probably never knew about how to choose the best compressor plugin to every specific situation. Truly unique information. We will talk about unique release curve and how exactly it affects the result. How long attack you should use to get a proper punch. How to even out vocal notes properly. How bright you compressor makes your sound and how colorful. I will show you how different plugins sound from different plugin manufacturers despite they are based on the same compressor. Also I will show you how compressor A sound better than compressor B in one project and how Compressor B sounds better than A in the other project. And why! We will learn disadvantages of some compressors even thought they are the most legendary ones. We will be checking all these things based on different LA2A plugins, UAD 1176, SSL Compressor, dbx 160, Neve 2254 and others using manufacturers like Universal Audio, Acustica Audio, Waves, Native Instruments, Solid State Logic and Softube. I will draw what exactly happens with every vocal note explaining Opto Release Curve. We will be using Telefunken project, then my mix even in comparison to the Grammy Wining song of the year, then my beat to explain drum compression.

    I've been a student of his since 6 months and I can confidently say that this is probably the most honest and straight forward mixing course you can find. No hyping of specific plugins or methods. Instead you get a very analytical dissection of different tools and approaches. The course is very detailed and comprehensive, touching on several topics that go beyond the scope of usual mixing courses, like homework checking classes, arranging tracks, setting up the mixing enviroment, comparing nuances of different plugins, etc. Andrew guides you through all of this brilliantly by providing very intelligent and sometimes quite funny explanations to make even the most complex topics digestable. There truely is a lifetime worth of knowledge packed into this course and I am already looking forward to discovering more! Thank you Andrew!!

    I have been attending this course for six months and I can confidently say: if you're tired of going through millions of tutorials written by millions of different people and want a clear and complete explanation of audio engineering, this course is your treasure, and WILL save you at least a decade of struggle. AZ is insanely knowledgeable, his teaching is comprehensive, easy to understand and fun. The course comes with a lot of exclusive ideas and techniques you can only find here due to his decades of tireless experimenting and testing.
    It will propel your skill level through the roof even if you don't do anything but sit back and listen, as if watching a series. Now, imagine what would happen with your skills if you actually did study during the course :>

    Andrew is a genuine help for anyone looking to understand audio engineering. He gives his class important visual cues. His descriptions satisfy. And, his ability to listen and know how to make things sound better is amazing! I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to hear him and few like he gives much more value than others when it comes to training. He dispels myth and promotes listening and thinking for yourself. I applaud Andrew and his musicianship!

    I’m currently still in the course and it’s the best investment I’ve made so far for my music production/engineering journey. I started out in 2018 and I know for sure this class gave me a 10 year head start. AZ goes over compression, eq, models, nuances of each model, techniques, studio setup, and so many more topics. Andrew really knows what he’s talking about when it comes to audio engineering. I would say he’s a genius in this field because his knowledge is through the roof. Just follow, apply and practice for yourself and you’ll start to notice improvements in your mixes, or start actually deciding in what plugins would work best in certain situations. Thanks Andrew, looking forward to graduating!

    I've been taking his classes and I've spent money on other courses before, I don't lie when I say this is different, I like his personal authenticity and the passion he thrives from when he teaches us, he teach us on the course almost philosoficaly, is that in every case in sound engenireeing there is pros and cons, goods and bads, he tries to be real and open your eyes about an infinite subject and he teaches you every little nuance, so don't miss the classes, also because very each class sums up to the next one so stay focus. I really think this saves you a lot of years (the other classes I took was from music producers with 30 yo more or less but they don't have and idea compared to this man)

    I would like to begin by stating that the way Andrew teaches in his courses is very unique, straight forward with no grey areas.
    the way he would go into deep details about a plugin or approaches for whatever issues in mixing or mastering, its really A GAME CHANGER!
    Im lucky and grateful to be able to inquire his lesson for the simple fact that He's teaching me how to get off bad mixing habits and to apply correctly the necessary methods when it come to mixing /Mastering. I Love the fact that he takes time and truthfully explains whats good and not good in mixing. HE MAKES ME THINK before any MOVE. i wish i would've join his course years ago. AZ is a True GURU by far when it come to Mixing /Mastering Techniques. Now i can say that i regain confidence in mixing without a doubt. AZ Course Is A Life CHANGER!

I will create a skype account and sign up for the free class as you suggest. I will also reply to your email, I am working on another tune currently which is taking up my time and efforts strenously. More knowledged would mean less strain. Your course is exactly what i need. Please check out my previous release 'Gluvtoe Christmas'... My original song on youtube or spotify. This was what i was right in the middle of when I discovered you on youtube last year. I ended up having to mix this myself to the best of my abilities and energy levels. It was very hard and i did try and get some professionals to mix it but although their mix made them sound good it didn't make my song sound good. So i had to make do with slightly not so good mixed song but hopefully the spirit is still conveyed. My reasoning for joining the course would be to better sonically convey any idea i have while retaining it's initial spirit. th-cam.com/video/ZeEJSM8tWGY/w-d-xo.html

    I'm a current student on Andrew's course. I'm about 2/3 through and it's money well spent.
    I've spent countless hours watching TH-cam videos, reading articles, reading textbooks, and playing with plugin presets. They're all fine and good for learning the basics, but what Andrew teaches (he mentions this at the end of the video) is the knowledge to understand what to do when the basics don't work. Why are things going wrong? What can I do to fix it?There are plenty of videos of amazing, experienced audio engineers demonstrating how a certain technique or plugin sounds amazing on their perfectly recorded source material. Guess what? My source material is NOT perfectly recorded (trust me!). As a result, I've always struggled to make it sound the way I want it to.
    On this course I'm finally learning the true basics. What does a compressor actually do? Which one should I use? What are the differences between models? What are the differences between plugins? The same for EQ's, gates, limiters, every audio engineering tool in the book. Every class is a deep dive and I've learned something new in each one. From basic stuff like how panners work (I thought I knew!) to deeper stuff like how difference compressors affect harmonics.
    I recommend you try a class. This course has helped me no end and I'm sure it would help you too.

    Andrew буквально даёт в руки инструмент и объясняет как им пользоваться - после каждого занятия пробую применить знания на практике и слышу результат.
    Помимо теории, очень важная часть курса - разбор домашек. Здесь начинаешь обращать внимание на то, что не слышал ранее, понимаешь причину многих нюансов и способы их решения.
    Рекомендую ли я курс? Да. Его будет полезно прослушать как новичку, так и опытному звукорежиссеру.

      !!! также мой курс имеет самый честный подход. Никакой предоплаты. Бесплатное пробное. И даже когда вы после пробного записываетесь на курс, я не беру оплату пока не начнется первый месяц. И вы можете платить в течении первой недели первого месяца. Таким образом вы сначала увидите качтество курса а уже потом платите. И только помесячная оплата. Никто с вас плату за весь курс брать не будет. И я буду доказывать на каждом занятии топ качество обучения. 99% студентов заканчивают все 9 месяцев и так я уже делаю 8 лет подряд.

      @AndrewZeleno1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand the context of your phrase "Something confuses me here". If there is some mistake in the video, provide the time mark i will check it out. I don't see how this video goes against "release phase of the compressor only kicks in after the the level is below the threshold". Also you forgot the the level is not something abstract. "Feeling" word is a group of many peaks and each peak deals with the threshold and release curve. If we go even further there is a soft knee in the majority of compressors. So even peaks below the threshold trigger compression.

    How about instead of using an image/photo editor simply bounce the compressed audio track to see the actual result and compare to the uncompressed source track?

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because audio production is about what you hear. And a graphic editor just shows the tendency. If you want to see the waveform then it's better to work as a video editor. Also the waveform doesn't mean anything. RMS level still can be audible differently even if peak level looks totally different.

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can be totally right. But from my experience one versatile digital compressor with "all" modes in one usually anyway has its own way of sound anyway. So you waste a lot of time and experience ear fatigue instead of spending 5 sec on some simple compressor which instantly delivers what you want. But again it's not the point of this video. I showed how plugin A sounds better than Plugin B in one project and Plugin B is better than Plugin A in the other project. They are both 2254 compressor but from different manufacturers. It's about you choosing the most appropriate tool for a particular situation.

    I personally use Fabfilter's Pro-C2 for the mix, and a combination of waves multiband (usually C6) and SSL emulators in the master. All depends on the end product you're going for but I find FF ProC does everything needed for a mix.

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good for you. But again the point of this video was that there is no the best compressor. I showed how the best compressor in one situation can be the worst compressor in the other situation. So there is no the best compressor. It's about you deciding what works right in every situation. FabFilter Pro-C is far from able to do everything to be honest.

    • @BraidzMC
      @BraidzMC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewZeleno1 You can shape Facbfilter ProC to sound how you like, it just takes a bit more effort than using one that already comes with a "sound" too it IE: SSL comps.
      I have heard UA make better emulators than Waves, yet to try them though personally.

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tested Pro-C2 and it's far from being able to emulate everything. But if you tested it like me for hundreds and hundreds of hours with a serious monitoring and ear experience including measuring then it's good for you to stick with just one plugin. For me Pro-C2 is far from it.

      I really thought too, why not just use one compressor for everything! The market is quiet dense with compressors and a new la2a or 1176 popping out every other month. It is overwhelming for almost everyone with little experience. However the moment when you realize and learn from Andrews course that compressor is in fact eq! Oh man this eye opening. After that it's not that hard to find the sound you're going for. Andrew gives an overview of the most iconic compressors, emulations and manufacturers, from there on its much much easier to decide what to reach for. I didn't find a single multi platinum mixer or producer who really thought about these important and fundamental issues, so they commonly just apply their old-school digital compressor and fix the fizzyness and harshness later with tape or eq which is really harmful for novices to adopt and learn. Mixing isn't that hard anymore and much more fun and less fighting. Also it gives confidence to know and apply all this knowledge. ab a bit. Take your pro c, let's say an cla76 and an ik 76 for example. The differences in tonality are huge! Your vocal is dark and muffled, maybe give cla a try. Vocal is thin, maybe go for something fatter and juicier first Like ik or even native/softube. These things are not tought in books or TH-cam and for sure not on Mix with the masters!

      @@adelaudio I understand all of this, I don't use SSL in my master chain for nothing.
      Still think Fabfilter is the best all-around for a mix chain though.
