‘Terrible’: Paul Murray reveals the ‘big fear’ about vaping

  • Sky News host Paul Murray says the “big fear” about vaping is that a brand new generation is learning how to put something “terrible” in their system.
His remarks come as the Albanese government revealed it would be watering down its ban on vapes.
“They decided not to ban the sale of these products because it was a way of getting something that the Greens wanted,” Mr Murray said.

In the UK, NZ & Sweden vaping is encouraged as a better alternative because they have looked at the overwhelming scientific evidence that vaping is far safer than smoking with a tiny fraction of the cancer risk-almost the same as a non smoker. Here we have a moral panic driving policy. People breathe in car exhaust every time they leave the house in urban areas- same chemicals as in cigarettes. Alcohol is far more dangerous, causing thousands of deaths a year but we don't ban it. Deaths from vaping nicotine? Zero worldwide in 20 years.

    Dear Mark Butler,
I hope this message reaches you despite the challenging circumstances.
I am deeply disappointed by the recent decision to proceed with the vaping ban in Australia,
especially in light of the significant concerns raised by experts and health professionals, including myself.
As of July 1st, all vape shops across the country have been forced to close, leaving thousands of people without jobs.
This outcome was avoidable had there been a willingness to listen to evidence and consider harm reduction strategies rather than an outright prohibition.
It's disheartening to see that the ban was only passed with the support of the Green Party, whose influence led to a watered-down version of the legislation.
While I understand the political dynamics at play, it is clear that this compromise does little to address the fundamental flaws in the ban itself.
The reasoning behind the ban, purportedly to protect children, rings hollow when weighed against the economic devastation and loss of harm reduction options for adults.
It is evident to many that this decision was driven more by emotional appeals than by a rational assessment of the evidence and potential consequences.
Australia now faces a situation where a thriving industry has been dismantled overnight, with no clear benefit to public health.
The opposition has already pledged to reverse this decision upon taking office, underscoring the lack of consensus and foresight in your government's approach.
As someone who has benefited from vaping as a tobacco alternative for the past 15 years, I am personally affected by this shortsighted policy.
There were viable alternatives, such as regulation and taxation, that could have both supported the industry and contributed positively to public health outcomes.
I urge you and your colleagues to reconsider this decision before irreparable damage is done.
It is not too late to acknowledge the unintended consequences and seek a more balanced approach that respects the rights of adults,
to choose harm reduction strategies while protecting youth through effective regulation.
Please reflect on the broader implications of this ban and consider the opportunity to rectify this decision in the interests of public health,
    economic stability, and personal freedom.
    Sincerely,
    ____________

Anticompetitive practices: The government has restricted vape sales to pharmacies only, potentially creating an artificial monopoly that violates competition laws.
Price gouging: There's an extreme markup on vaping products under the new system. For example, vape juice that cost $29.90 for 1000ml is now being sold at $28 for 60ml in pharmacies. This could be considered exploitative pricing, especially if the government is benefiting from these inflated prices.
Misuse of regulatory power: The policy appears to be financially motivated rather than health-driven, as evidenced by continued easy access to liquid nicotine. This suggests a possible abuse of regulatory authority.
Undue burden on healthcare: The policy is forcing doctors to write prescriptions and pharmacists to manage distribution, potentially negatively impacting the broader healthcare system without clear justification.
Consumer rights infringement: By restricting access to a product many use for smoking cessation, the government may be infringing on consumer choice and potentially harming public health.
Inconsistent application of law: The discrepancy between the treatment of liquid nicotine and vaping products seems arbitrary and potentially discriminatory.
Economic harm: The policy has caused significant economic damage to existing businesses in the vaping industry.

Hey there. Those rules are the same for medical marijuana here in the states. They give me an allotment of 120 grams per 30 days. I can buy all at once or one thing at a time. Crazy they are gonna do that with nicotine. Great content.

Hey Paul, don't joke about people having addictions to putting things in their mouths. Judging by the fat around your neck and belly you have an addiction to putting fatty foods in your mouth.
