ill tell you guys when i was younger i dropped to a 4.39-4.43 one think that helped a lot was getting a smooth running form....
Also to practice running short yards as fast as possible....
i was able to get a 20 yard dash down to 2.9-3.3 secs i worked on 20 yard dash and 30 yard dash more than 40s.....

yup yep, that way you were reaching max velocity at 40, 50m. great advice, I worked the he'll at 15 an 30yrds not 40 or 60. just gotta stay in control for 60, can't break apart after 40. but Cheers to the 10 20 30 work!

Totally agree. Most people think of but kick wrong as well. It's a forward motion (ie with hip flexion) not a curl with hip extension.
I agree with the pushing under COM as well. I've really enjoyed this video series and he has great explanations but a few of these drills practice pushing behind one's COM. Watch all top sprinters start and in their drive phase they are pushing under COM not way behind them.

During the one knee drill, there was too much arm "snapping" going on. This will only increase the torque on the arm and require more force to pull the arm through effecting the time. Arm should be at 90 degrees during forward arm swing and only extend about an extra 20 degrees during the back swing.

  • @Triekki

An article I can remember that gives evidence for the use of assisted and resisted sled pull type training improving different aspects of sprinting (ie acceleration vs full speed) was called "The affect of assisted and resisted sprint training on acceleration and velocity in division 1A female soccer athletes." In their article they cite others with similar work as well. If you can't find it online PM me your email address.

My school had 14 4x100m state titles in 20 years and this is all we did aside from weight training, working on starts, and arms. If you want to get faster instantly just pick your knees up making sure hip to knee is 20-30 degrees from being parallel to the ground.

Studies have shown that teaching athletes running form for the 40 provides miniscule results in timed speed. Under .01 of a difference. However, by teaching athletes bodies to create more force they were able to provide huge results. Ie by getting them to deadlift maximal weights per pound of body weight. Mike Evans ran a 4.7 before working on force and not form and manziel was like 4.7 as well. Look at what they ran at tge combine after training the shiyt out of deadlifts.

I'd disagree completely on this point. I watched my own times drastically improve in a few sessions just because of improved technique. Joe Defranco has made a point of repeatedly saying that all he did was correct the technique of Miles Austin to see a dramatic change. Obviously he continued to work with him and Austin got even better. Athletes developing force is obviously key to developing power but technique is second to none with the 40. I'd be curious to read these studies.

Hey guys, there can't be a single form of solution for everyone. Some people may improve from this and others may improve from that. So giving athletes what "they" need is the key.

I like these drills... love the explanations but hate his arm form...he flicks or releases the elbow bend which makes the arm lever longer thus slowing down his turn over speed & the rate at which the arms swing or drive. A short lever is a fast lever; If he could maintain that 90 degree hinge at the elbow during his posterior arm swing, he would be more efficient in his movements. Very informative video & thorough scientific explanation.

Quit arguing between Chris and Bo Chris ran 4.24 on the official electronically clocked combined fastest ever and Bo ran the fastest unofficial non electronically 40 with a 4.12 but that's not completely accurate becasue it was clocked by a person so they could have been a little slow or a little fast with the starting and stopping time
