I love this game. It has such great mechanics not seen in games made like 15-20 years later!!! Very low amount of games offer random unit attack animation just as an example. The fire spreading mechanic is quite genuine as well. The game has one of the best rock/paper/scissor mechanics in an RTS game ever made! Think about it - having to think about stats for cutting/piercing/blunt/fire/magic if you want to master it. Starcraft for example just has light and heavy damage types.
Actually to speed run the final mission make 6-8 archer with fire arrows and 3-4 dragon warrior go top destroy all towers trigger zymeth then go the 3rd or middle land and stay there wait for nightvol will respawn there...... then done.... you can finish this map with lesser time.....
I need to get ready to speedrun this game by next month's 20th anniversary, and no, I'm not doing the Zen Edition version. I really hate it which I'll rant it commentary while speedrunning it...
The soban province part even on normal dragon is impossible on the latest version (open beta version). 4 lotus clans attack you simultaneously in the beginning when you just have few forces. It is way harder than the serpent serpentholm 2. It feels like they already have a large force at the start of the game and you only have otomo, shinja, Kabuki warrior, an archer and a geisha (ohh and 2 peasants) and the lotus already have a team of disease ones. You have to really on luck when the ai delays the 4 team attack when they stroll around a bit to give you a little time to at least build a decent build.
@@r_v_pirat3789 i actually figured out why i was having a hard time. The beta version significantly buffs the poison damage, which made diseased ones incredibly powerful. And that part tends to spam diseased ones and only few dragon units can deal with it. (I used kabuki flash powders but they are incredibly fragile to diseased ones’ magic poison plus the poison damage and they die within seconds)
Dragon Path is actually easy, Kenji himself is a tank and could easily dispose any infantry units all by himself. And this game gets a lot easier if you know how to utilize hotkeys and how to group units for shortcuts. Now Serpent Journey is another story, toughest part is the Serpentholme battle, unlike before its easy, but now they made it so hard it looks impossible.

And doing a run actually takes quite a bit of practice and discovering the route in the first place - since basically nobody else runs the game, this isn't as simple as with more commonly run games. I will do it, if I play it for longer again. At the moment I am playing not enough to put in the hours in that would be necessary.
I am trying this on hard difficulty and it is indeed VERY hard. I've beaten Warcraft 3 RoC and TFT, both on hard. But Battle Realms is just too impossible to beat for me. I am fighting the lotus 1 mission prior to Serpentholm and I am struggling so much. Being good at micromanagement is a must. I guess I need to imitate how I did it back in Warcraft 3: playing it at the slowest possible speed so that I can keep up the pace. BTW, you ever thought or have you ever tried playing this on hard difficulty?
I did some attempts at a speedrun on hard. There are spots where you can notice the increase in difficulty, if I remember correctly (it's been a few months). But all in all with speedrun strats it was fairly doable. Just playing casually on hard difficulty I had the joy of my life. :D I've been playing this game as a kid and was fascinated to see, how the ai was acting completely different. And it is certainly way more difficult than before. But I can't say it's too difficult to beat. That's only what I think for the dragon campaign though. I am a bit lazy if it comes to playing the serpent. That mission you are mentioning is one of the harder missions on the hard difficulty though.
Is this video sped up? Why is your game so much faster than mine on max speed settings? However the speech of units there got normal speed so idk if it's even sped up.
It's pretty awesome. When I played that the first time, I was totally flashed that the AI will build in the south of the second level (right one). It's such an improvement from back in the days.

Sorry I overlooked your comment. You have to alt-tap, and that is literally the fix. So if you are in game and you see the map being black, pause the game, minimize the game and go back into it again.

There was no way I was going to kill Zymeth with Kenji almost dead and all those troops nearby him. That part is luck. Sometimes it's just too hard to kill Zymeth. Then you are better of resetting.

That level was indeed very much dependent on the order and speed you do things in. It can go downhill pretty quickly.

That mission you are mentioning is one of the harder missions on the hard difficulty though.
