Stepping Out of Time Into Eternity

  • What happens in out of body experiences? Or times when you seem to disappear momentarily and then come back to yourself? So what is Stepping Out of Time Into Eternity?
Rupert explains that in these moments the mind is brought to an end. And when the mind is brought to an end, time - which only exists in the mind - also comes to an end. Thus, you step out of time and visit eternity, then come back into time. Where you ‘go’ is indescribable because it is not known by the finite mind.
Great sorrow, grief, fear, shock and amazement are some of the ways the mind is brought to an end. That is why these profound experiences are often precipitated by very intense emotions.
These kinds of experiences cannot be accounted for under the prevailing materialist paradigm - they need to be dismissed as fabrications or coincidences. But in the perennial nondual understanding we know that the essence of our own mind and the reality of the world are the same. It’s not that internally we are made of mind and externally the world is made of matter - consciousness is the reality of both. So there is a very close conjunction between what takes place on the inside and what takes place on the outside. Thus, synchronicities like this are to be expected. They are just confirmations that there is a deep connection between the essence of our mind and the reality of the world.
This clip was taken from one of Rupert's in-person retreats at Froyle Park, Jan 14 - 18, 2022.

I want to thank you for this video but I’m not sure what it is that I want to thank you for. My husband has recently been diagnosed with stage four cancer of his liver and pancreas . I am experiencing the beginning of that great loss you described and hearing you describe it somehow gives me comfort. It lets me know that even this is shared I guess . I see life continue on as if nothing has happened . Knowing this kind of experience is happening all the time to someone, and yet I also feel times of peace and even joy.

We all return "home" to the non-physical realms, also called the spirit world, after spending some time here experiencing what we came here to experience. In a real sense home is everywhere because The Source of all life is everywhere. We are microcosmic expressions, a smaller version, of this Infinite Intelligence that is The Source. It's nature is peace, joy, love, infinite unlimited freedom, beauty and creativity. It is sentient and eternal. And so are we. We are always reunited with all of our loved ones, in every sense of the word, after we leave our physical bodies.

From my experience, these spontaneous feelings of profound love , peace or joy are actually very simple to explain. Beyond our bodies and our rational minds is our true selves ( our souls or non physical selves. ). When we relax enough or our physical mind momentarily rejects our current reality our true self shines through.
Our physical bodies and physical minds can suffer. Our true selves, our souls never suffer. They are always pure love peace and joy.
Once you truly remember who you really are it becomes much easier to return to that profound love, peace and joy because it is who you are.

Grateful to have heard this q&a for it puts down into words an experience I had a difficult time explaining to others. Ruperts explanation of his feeling of peace during the fire is exactly what I experienced several times during stressful events regarding my body.
The past 6 to 7 years my body has shut down, fallen ill, ... in very sudden experiences but also chronic pain afterwards. The first time in hospital I thought I was going to die and this immense peace came over me, carrying me through the experience.
It's always a bit odd to tell people how grateful I am for what has happened to me; I understand the confusion though.
Recognizing this underlying peace in the midst of suffering has been a gift for it gave faith and trust when my body acted up again later.
We fear so much when in actuality, when these "worst case" scenario's play out we are carried by something greater than "ourselves".

Thank you, Rupert, for sharing your abundant insights with Beings who are yearning to "know" their deeper dimension of true Self. Thank you, also, for sharing the account about the night that your studio burned to the ground and how you felt supported throughout the event by Presence. I had no conscious awareness of my essential nature when my "world" came tumbling down in 2006, amidst the breakup of a twenty-year marriage. To be able to help point "others" toward the knowing of true Self is now a strong purpose, to help lessen apparent suffering in Consciousness. Blessings to you. 🙏

This used to happen to me as a kid too at times when I was with my parents, usually waiting for them and the only way I can describe it is that it was as if I didn't need to be in the manifest world in that moment. Now looking back it was at times I felt safe. Everything felt free and joyful, I still had some awareness of the manifest world but at the same time I was in another place. As Rupert says you can't describe that place as there is no time or space there. It was truly blissful. I've not been there as an adult, even when meditating. When meditating I've felt the same experience as Rupert described when his workshop burnt down, the only way I can describe it is being engulfed in love and peace. The two were very different though. I guess something about what in Advaita would be called being a 'householder' (rather than someone without worldly duties), that there is an inability to let go to the extent that allows us to reach certain states

The experiencing of the end of time as discussed parallels the Christian doctrine of dying to one's self as discussed by St Paul. Putting the demands of the flesh to death also results in an experience of what Christainity terms "eternal life'.

Have you ever experienced the past or the future? Or is your experience always happening in the present? My experience is that memories and imagination happen in the present, as does everything else. My mind uses the concept of time to understand eternity, but it’s just a concept. The present is eternal. The same goes for space and infinity. Good luck!
