This thing makes no sense to me. This thing is FPGA, that is field programmable gate array, but only supports one system? Why not just make a fixed function ASIC board for it and be done. This product could have been super interesting if they made a proprietary slot for it so that you could get different adapters to fit different system cartridges into the machine. Then they could put that field PROGRAMMABLE gate array to work and reflash it with what ever system architecture goes with that cartridge. It would hands down be the best modern machine that you could buy for any cartridge based console ever made if they chose a FPGA with enough arrays to emulate a N64; I think that was the most advanced hardware that was cartridge base. I'd say that would be a console worth $500 if it came with all the adapters you would ever need.
Once you reach half a million subs or more, manufacturers would be wise to start listening to your inputs and make decisions accordingly. Very informative channel with solid showcases. Keep it up!
I will buy the Mega SG later I was not a Sega gamer back in the day but that just means I missed out on a lot of good games and I'll look forward to playing those games... I'll buy the system when they come out with their adapters... looking forward to the 32X and Game Gear adapters.
Not sure if it's your capture or not, but I can see one problem with that Sonic gameplay - the way the shield power-up is being rendered. At first it looks like it's a static circle around Sonic, and then it shifts to a solid animation covering Sonic with no transparency and it stayed that way till the end of the level. That is definitely not the way that that power-up is supposed to render. I dunno if the original game "created transparency" by only rendering the power-up every other frame or something and the Mega SG isn't handling that - seems plausible because of the way it shifts state - but I'm not an emulator developer.
Definite purchase for me, and the Super Nt too! Great systems. I'm currently scouring sites for Japanese Megadrive games. I know they play ROMS but I do like Japanese boxed software if I can get it. Nostalgia more than anything but I love that Japanese box art. So what do you think is next from these guys? Saturn? N64? Turbo Grafx? I wonder how this compares to the Polymega which I'm aso interested in?
FPGA's still run some microcode, so they are not exactly a hardware only solution, but as close to. Also Retrocore can now run emulators with lower than original hardware latency with run ahead option configured correctly, obviously the quality of the experience will be contigent on the accuracy of the respective core.
I bought a sheild tv with a controller for 170 and i can emulate all sega/ Nintendo games that I like without hiccups. Also I can emulate wii and gamecube on sheild with minimal issues. So just buy a sheild and save ur money.
It's good that you're happy with the emulation on the Shield but it's far worse than these FPGA based systems, especially when it comes to input latency and audio. Also, you can use your own carts here and not rely on pirate ROMs.
@@PSNGormond dk when a company like Sega/Nintendo gives up on their older consoles then I also give up on caring about pirating their games. Why would sega have the right to sue people who are keeping nostalgia alive and not making money directly off it clients(except through site ads revenue). I played lion king and im just as bad now(with latency) as i was in 2002 when i played it(without latency).
My argument of not ever buying this is why pay 190 bucks for that when it will most likely cost you just as much to buy all systems in working condition if you are lucky enough.
This is hilariously true, and also why I never have bought one of those throwback systems. I also now own Super NT and Mega SG.
Very good Tech Wave Jon(SW). The Mega SG looks a quality product for the money and i would say a must own for Sega fans.
@Chris Taber not enough lol.
Hope they make an n64, this looks great
Looks interesting for sure
It plays fm sound on master system games? I'm glad I picked one up.
Once you reach half a million subs or more, manufacturers would be wise to start listening to your inputs and make decisions accordingly. Very informative channel with solid showcases. Keep it up!
Received mine on Monday. Mine didn't have Ultracore preloaded nor is it playing SMS games.... hmm. Is there a firmware update required on day 1?
So.... if anyone else has this issue, then the firmware update fixed both the issues.
How does the 8bitdo controller connect? Do you need the 8bitdo dongle that plugs into the Genesis controller slot?
280,000 subscribers? I thought you just passed 200,000 rather recently
He did, my boy is growing so fast 😭
He did. He's exploding
If they did some thing like the for the PS1 and PS2 I'd buy them immediately, no questions asked.
It's called a PS3 and it exists right now. :)
I'd rather see them refine that board more and do this to a game gear. We don't need more ways to play stuff that's already stupid easy to play
FPGA/hardware emulation is awesome
I will buy the Mega SG later I was not a Sega gamer back in the day but that just means I missed out on a lot of good games and I'll look forward to playing those games... I'll buy the system when they come out with their adapters... looking forward to the 32X and Game Gear adapters.
This is the fourth video I have watched on this system. Seems very interesting.
Please do a review for all the adapters they put out for the Japanese Cart systems for this as they come out. Great review!
Gotta respect the price. Also because there will be upgrades and such along the line.
Likely TH-cam's problem. SNES and Sega played games that have effects that TH-cam hates for some reason, especially flashing effects.
That's just a problem with the game. The shield has never quite looked right on video. Go watch any let's play of sonic 2 and you'll see it
Is that box crooked back there?
The graphics are a bit pixelated on mine it’s like they are too sharp/blocky is that how it’s supposed to look?
Video should've been called "I ordered a Mega SG in 2019...this is what I got" 😉
Why does it look the same size of the Sega mini
FPGA's still run some microcode, so they are not exactly a hardware only solution, but as close to.
Also Retrocore can now run emulators with lower than original hardware latency with run ahead option configured correctly, obviously the quality of the experience will be contigent on the accuracy of the respective core.
But can i play Gauntlet 4 four player? And how's the death grip?
Does it work with game gear games too?
Would this benefit us in 50hz Pal regions? If I can’t run games in 60hz then maybe emulation is still the best way for us
Only missing a component option to play on an old tv
Can you please tell me what size torx bit you used to open the Mega SG? I need to open mine up but I don't have the right size.
It's a T10 security bit. It needs the hollow tip.
They could make an slot-load Sega CD to fit their style.
@Chris Taber even if sold separately?
….oh no... that font... I need to change that...
Pirated roms are the olny reason why im reliving childhood memories. As for a little bit of latency, it really doesnt bother me. I played lion king and im just as bad now(with latency) as i was in 2002 when i played it(without latency).
Finally a video Not about the Switch !
Do they have a Sega Saturn model
Where's my FPGA PSX that plays all the games at twice native resolution?
It's so easy to dump PSX games that I wouldn't insist on a disc drive.
I would like someone to do a mega cd version
Dude?......Dude!
#AquaToadOnSpawnCast
Will you be also doing a review of the Polymega when it comes out (IF it comes out) as well?
So are you planning on buying it?
The Nostalgia Factor guy they sent him a free one to review; unless he gives it away , why would he ?
A premium product this is 4 sure 👍
@Chris Taber lol don’t hate kid
*Say guuuuuuuuh!*
My argument of not ever buying this is why pay 190 bucks for that when it will most likely cost you just as much to buy all systems in working condition if you are lucky enough.
Because those don't play very nicely with HD screens. They get stretched to 16:9, and the low resolution is a problem on a HD display
@@DarkLink1996. That's why you get a TV that is compatible with the system. It won't cost ya anymore that 20 bucks or less. I got mine free.
Did sonic 2 looked that way?
If you own/like the Mega Sg I recommend the Analogue owners/fans community on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/analoguefans
@Chris Taber not sure what you refer to, but they delete jerks and arseholes, as they should
Meanwhile most of the Sega supported Throwbacks have motherboards with just an epoxy blob and GENEROUS use of hot glue.
This is hilariously true, and also why I never have bought one of those throwback systems. I also now own Super NT and Mega SG. The upcoming Genesis Mini is a step in the right direction but this still offers far more in the long run. I've paired mine with the brand new SEGA / Retro-Bit 6 button controllers, jailbroken, and it's amazing.
@Chris Taber I'm not "complaining" about anything. Seems like your are the one that is complaining.
Does it support the 32X?
No Love for the 32x?
