    My experience- Extend a finger, cat approaches, and when it goes to sniff, the static buildup discharges into it's nose, pissing him off for all of eternity.

      Maybe it depends on how wild the cat is. If they're familiar with usual positive human contacts (which tipically involve what you do) it's good to go.

    Cats actually respond well to a high-pitched voice, but calm and slow is the way. Intense and "frantic" sounds as well as deep sounds are stressful and threatening to most cats. A soft and calm hello or baby meows works well in my experience. (Combined of course with a relaxed and unimposing body language, many slow blinks and some soft purring)

    No, thats wrong. You call the cat by chanting "ksksksksksksks", then you make the universal sign for "cash", and if the cat responds you start petting it while inventing silly names for it.

  • @lnsflare1

    I generally present the top of my fingers, curled so that the nails aren't pointing at the cat so they don't think that I'm threatening them.

      @Nekotaku_TV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They wont be able to notice such a thing...

    • @lnsflare1
      @lnsflare1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nekotaku_TV Animals are generally pretty strongly aware of where a comparatively massive potential predator's claws and fangs are (which is why smiling is generally considered a threatening gesture to most animals since you're essentially baring your teeth at them from there perspective).
      In my personal experience, stray animals are generally more nervous when I come from above with my hand in a potentially grabbing/clawing position and less nervous when I present my hand from in front and in a position where at most I could only smack 'em with the back of my knuckles if I suddenly got aggressive.

  • @granky_

    Does it work with stray cats? There's a stray cat in my neighbourhood and I want to approach him but every time he runs away 😭 I can give him food only if I throw it to him and I'm way distant

    • @MasterKoala777
      @MasterKoala777 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He's probably not used to kindness from humans. I once adopted a stray cat but initially had to leave food for him, and allowed him to eat while I'm at a distance. They take time to trust humans, so be patient. :) Oh and you don't have to throw the food towards him (he might think you are throwing it *at* him). Just leave it gently and walk away, giving him some space.

      @guilhermetonon7267 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you try to sit on the ground ?

    • @HydroSnips
      @HydroSnips 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strays will steer clear but will hang about at a distance if interested enough. Don’t expect strokes or cuddles straightaway, you’ll have to coax it over a time. Do as L Monty suggests above and put some food down and back off. No sudden movements or anything as he’ll be on high alert and watching your every move as he doesn’t trust you yet and will probably bolt if you try to approach him while he’s eating for the first time. It’ll take time, but it varies from cat to cat and how much interaction they’ve ever had with humans. Some simply can’t be won over, often the older ones who have been longer in the wild.

      Depends on the scenario.. its not 1 rule for anything and everything. Learn to understand your cat from it’s behaviour then act accordingly.

      @guilhermetonon7267 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is the tittle of the vídeo ?

    • @JustSaralius
      @JustSaralius 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, making eye contact is fine, but use a soft relaxed gaze and blink slowly until the cat responds with the same. You have to read the cat continuously and be patient. If the cat looks tense, extending the length of your blinks may help. Make sure to breathe slowly and relax your body too. Cats read your entire body language. Make yourself soft and gentle and smaller (sitting down or softening your posture).
      What you DON'T want to do is fix your eyes on theirs and stare.

  • @jackalope7395
    @jackalope7395 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't use a LOUD voice when meeting a cat. Many people seem to think cats are half-deaf, and talk way too loud. Cats have very sensitive hearing.

  • @yopestevens1505
    @yopestevens1505 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Never give cats the finger, and don't approach from the front or the top. A slow approach from the side from at least 12 inches away so they can turn their head towards you and the top of your curled fingers. The reason for 12 inches is that cat's vision is blurred up close & they won't be able to focus, so they back up. High pitch is fine if the cat knows you, but a soft gentle voice will go a long way if they don't. Vets are great, but remember almost every cat they see is in pain or sick and doesn't know them...they have reason to be cautious at all times, even with the bestest kitties.
