    Went on this video thinking it was another video that would lead me nowhere. I was having issues with AE and getting it to work and not crash on my mac pro. Followed the instructions and it worked like a charm. Very surprised. Hope this helps anyone else who was also having issues with their mac and AE.
    Thanks Magnum!

    What’s up Magnum, new to your channel. This is how a Informational video should be done! No crazy loud music, distracting effects, unnecessary camera movement. Your presentation was direct, clear, understandable with some good humor added in. Nice work and Thank you.
    I don’t think you will ever be bored enough to read this. Not even if your on a desert island and this is the only thing to read. haha but just in case you do surpass that level of boredom, Here’s my story and problem I’m faced with, to pass some time.
    I was trying to free up space on my moms MacBook that I had given her. I initially set it all up, but my brother got a hold of it. I only know the basics, so right off I shouldn’t have been messing with the permissions and sharing settings. Second reason I had no business messing with it is because it’s a 15inch late 2008 Mac Pro 5, 1 running el captain with a hard drive maxed out; partitioned 5 ways, but one of the maxed out partisans is an OS X driver for an external expansion hdd 1tb seagate, free agent, go flex back up for an old dell desktop formatted to windows because it’s a backup for my parents old dell desktop that was running windows xps. but has a OS X The actual sea gate disk still has 750gb of space left on it, but it’s useless because of the formatting. Even with all that going on, the MacBook was running flawlessly. However, with the Mac and seagate getting old I wanted to get everything on a single time machine for them. I was also messing with password and deleting and adding new users. My first and last step haha was to get all files on one account. I figured it would be “easy” since it’s all on one computer; idk maybe it is easy, but not for me. So basically, I was experimenting with different pathways, but they all seemed slow to me. Like I was doing something wrong. I guess I thought, well..., my brand new iPhone does everything instantly, so why would it be any different for a 12 year old computer with no space on the hdd transferring 700gb of files? Haha When I finally realized there’s no fast way of doing it; I put all the permissions back to how the were originally, or so I thought? I had to have changed at least 50. The next time I log on everything seemed normal, until I got to the desktop and nothing would load but the the infamous spinning beach ball. To get out of it I had to push the power button. It was the same for all the users. I figured the problem might be because I messed up the permissions. I stopped thinking it was a permission issue right after I ran first aid in disk utility because the TH-camr said it would fix anything that’s wrong and I saw hierarchy in details so I thought it was reset already. I searched the web for answers, but everything talks about the status bar or stuck on boot log. I tried all the different fixes and saw your video and thought, this has to be the fix I was looking for. I think this is my last resort before I take it in. Gonna try your fix tonight or tomorrow. Yes I know, I wrote all this and didn’t even try the fix yet. 🤦 I guess I just got to the boredom level i mentioned earlier and wanted to pass the time. Haha joking aside, I really didn’t care if it worked or not, my reason for commenting was to give props for your video and somehow turned into this. Haha

      Roarke6: Thanks for the somewhat lengthy, yet interesting comment. I appreciate your compliments on the video and I hope it turns out to be helpful in the end. If not, I'm afraid I'm not a computer guru and can't supply any additional instructions on how to fix the mess you're currently finding yourself in. HOWEVER, I have a friend who is HIGHLY qualified on the MacBook Pro. His name is Rex, and he has some type of certification from Apple. Not sure what it is, but he's helped me out of a fix a few times. He is also a TH-camr who is riding his motorcycle around the country for the past year to raise money for the Diabetes as a tribute to his son who had the disease and died a couple of years ago from it. His TH-cam channel is LONESTAR RIDER. You might want to visit his channel and send him an email with the info you posted here. (copy and paste would be quickest probably). Tell him Magnum sent you and ask if he has any suggestions. I hope he's able to help you get this fixed because having a messed up computer really sucks. I feel your pain. Good luck.

    Magnum, you are a darling. My IMac G5 2005 model was dead with this goddamn spinning wheel, those c...suckers in Silicon Valley laughed when I told them the model (I paid $ 2000.00 for this back then). I started it in safe mode, entered the PW (luckily I had written them down in my blue book), and followed your instructions, by golly it got rid of that rainbow (!!!) wheel. Now I how to figure have to get on the Internet. Thank you so much.

    I have a 2007 MacBook Pro that I bought used. I was getting the BBOD when I was attempting the update the date and time, as I was researching what the spinning beach ball was, I figured it was a bad HD and upgrade RAM. I upgraded to a 240GB SSD and 4 GB RAM (2x2GB sticks), I also loaded OS X Snow Leopard. I was going through the setup process with adding my account and information, then the BBOD showed again! I’m scratching my head so I reinstalled the OS and started the process again…same thing happened again. At this point I’m lost, don’t know what to do. I have a brand new SSD & RAM . Do you have any recommendations on what could be the problem?

      Check your Activity Monitor.app in your utility folder. Then check to see what's eating up your RAM memory and you can kill it from there. I've been trying to consolidate "active" drives and prioritize them by each app that requires their service at a particular time. I may do a vid if I have dramatic results when sequentially parking them. thx for you tips, that "permissions" trick can work if you have drives that are buggin' but the results are short lived.

      Check your hard drive available space (About this Mac from the Apple at the top left) then click on Storage and see how much space you have available. I just went through this with YEET and recommended an external drive to transfer some files to for storage to free up hard drive space. Also, have you done the VERIFY DISK PERMISSIONS process? That may prove to be the solution. If you go into Disk Utility, you can see which processes are using a lot of CPU resources. Hope that's helpful. Let me know if you get it fixed and how you did it.

    • @brucesmith9144

      Magnum thank you very much. I suspect the disk permission probably will do the trick once it actually opens that app - it is that slow. I have a 1 TB HDD which probably not even 10% full as the main disk so that isn’t the issue. Suspect that there are some stale processes still running as I left it on accidentally and went into and out of sleep mode. Even restarting didn’t help because the save app option was checked so that doesn’t allow apps/processes to end when shutoff. A nasty mess right now because it takes 10-15 minutes for the mini to respond to any input.

    • @MagnumVideos
      @MagnumVideos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried a complete SHUT DOWN rather than a RESTART? Sometimes that closes everything and lets you start from scratch on start up. Wish I could be of more help. I hope that option works out for you. I hate it when computers don't work right. If you can't get the issue resolved, I would drop by an Apple Store if you have one nearby and ask them to do a diagnostic on it. I don't know what they charge for that but it might be a last option to get it up and running again. Good luck. @@brucesmith9144

      I haven't used it for a long time and I'm even surprised it starts up at all (had it been a PC it wouldn't have).
      I know most of the keyboard upstart to even make it start, and it does, but it freeze totally because it can't handle all these moving files.
      Not even a beach ball. Just totally frozen, no way in.
      I wanna bet it can get working again, but the processor and hard disk heats up because it's old and only 2 GB memory.

      Are you able to create a new folder and drag those files into it or is the whole desktop frozen? If you have another external hard drive, I would try to plug it in and drag them there. What do you mean, "hit the tab"? What is "the tab"?

    • @MagnumVideos
      @MagnumVideos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The TAB key. It's usually on the left side above the caps lock.

    • @quabledistocficklepo3597

      Magnum,
      We'll, I'll be.... I've had Macs for ten to fifteen years, and I have NEVER noticed the TAB button before. Yes, it's there right where you said it would be, but it's news to me. It can't be of much importance; if it were, I would surely be aware of it. There would have been times when I would have needed it. However, I'm now going to see what I can learn about that key. Wait! sure I'm aware of tab buttons on typewriters going back to the Royals and Underwoods of my youth, so DUH, this TAB key must serve the same function. That shows you how much creative writing I've done since I bought my first computer decades ago. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.I wonder how many other things there are just under my nose waiting to be "discovered.'

    If you're getting the beach ball on a regular basis on your Mac it's probably because your hard drive is fucked. Hardly anyone mentions this but it is the case for so many Macs, The drives on Mac laptops and desktop machines built around 2013 to 2016 absolutely suck. You can expect about three to four years then the hard drives slowly go bad. The beach balling becoming progressively more frequent as does stalling and system corruption.
    If after you try everything and the beach balling still won't go away... pretty much your hard drive is fucked. Apple are such assholes they likely won't install a new one or will charge equivalent money as new.

They have convinced the world that you will have a higher social status if you own a MacBook. I own 2 iPads. Both given to me by family members who were suckered into buying the new one.
