This is super helpful, and I hope it will help me to practice not overthinking things! (Good luck with that…) I’m traveling to Germany in July and would love to do some sketching since the architecture is so lovely, but the shape of some of the buildings is intimidating. 😅 straight lines I can work with but throw some curves and rounded bits in there and it ends up looking so wonky!
Lots of fun! Liked all five. Also thinking it helps to have an early visual concept/scene in your head, which then provides a little bit of framing to build upon on paper.
Interesting the idea to revisit different techniques as the flat brush... I kind of "forget" to use that one! Did I heard something like a paprika color🤔, I would like to ear more about this one please. Have a wonderful day
I have a general question on these: you're sketching something you've done before, maybe a few times. Are you still using and working from a reference image? (Unless this is your view out your studio!) Or are you doing these exercises from your mind's eye? I love going paint first to force myself to break my sense of the name of what I'm painting from the observational aspect, so really seeing what I'm painting. No5 is how I normally do watercolors, starting with a fully wet page and a base wash, and sometimes the second mid-tones wash, and I adore the lost edges where things run together
Thanks for this! One of my problems is that when I try to get really loose, I end up drawing symbols 😔Then again, I just realized that I avoid doing it for exactly that reason, so I have no practice. So maybe I need to heed your advice and just have a go at it rather than worrying about it so much lol.
Dude what is wrong with you been pretending for a while now for sure its gained you 40 followers since feb 25, but why are you lying? You are not the woman in that picture she is a model Unia Pakhomova. You are an American and probably a dude.
I love everything you do but the single line loose sketches what I am trying to learn from you. I did a pretty good one today.
A lot of very useful information and instruction in only 15 minutes! Thanks Toby!
Thanks for the tips. The wet on wet/color first is most scary but most exciting. I’m new to watercolor (

Only one of these scenes was something I'd sketched before - still used the reference. A couple were imaginary.
Thankyou, great ideas.
Thanks Toby, from Chile 🇨🇱

Truly the most challenging for the control freaks like me😂
I mean the last one W-O-W😀
Inspiring!
To speedy for me, loose and simple has not automatically be made in a hurry , right?
Correct 👍
