Hey Josh - thanks for the shout-out and for answering my question! Keep up all the great music and hopefully I'll catch you live next time you're in the UK!
JOSH, YOU ARE JUST AWESOME YOUNG MAN. I'M A 69 YEAR OLD VIETNAM VET. AND I ENJOY WATCHING YOU PLAY SONGS FROM MY YOUNGER YEARS. GOD BLESS YOU WITH A WONDERFUL LIFE, AND A GREAT WIFE. LOVE YOU AND YOUR MUSIC.
Josh, I'm surprised that having been influenced by Paul Simon, that you and Carson haven't recorded a cover of "The Boxer" yet. You guys would knock it out of the park!
26 looking 15. That's a good thing! You will appreciate it more as you grow older and still look way younger than your real age! I love your work and your lifestyle! Thanks for sharing your marvelous talents with us.
I am a 64 year old man who failed at playing guitar as I have no talent for music.however I have a great ear for music and I really like what you guys have going I can’t tell you how much joy I get out of watching and listening, you have a good group to play with all friends I hope.thanks for the tunes keep going you will succeed in great style.
I appreciate that you reveal that you work really really hard and have prepared for YEARS to make your music performances sound effortless and natural. Wannabees take note!!!!!!! Oh, plus you seem to choose your friends and collaborators wisely. The "fast lane" is often the shortest and contains the most regrets. Blessings!
Thanks for another enjoyable video Josh. I really enjoyed watching your process for multi-tracking all the parts of your videos as I am just starting to do the same thing - I started this process back in the early 1970's (lol) with a Sony TC-252D 4 track sound on sound reel to reel tape recorder with which I was able to tape record each part and instrument by layering the tracks on top of each other - it cost me about 3 weeks pay back then to buy it, but it was pure magic. I am now beginning to record music again using today's equipment (much much easier), and I'm having the time of my life doing it! I'll be 70 at the end of July. Enjoy your life - it never gets old, even if you do.

If we are truly sincere, it will be reflected in our practice, and our practice will be reflected in our technical proficiency when playing.
James, thank you so much for your answer. So, do you and him mean that some guitar players in USA culture say that they are sincere or play music sincerely and use it as an excuse to not playing complex things? If I'm right, your explanation helped me a lot to understand his point. Thanks.
@@amaro3005 That's close, but I do want to nitpick one little thing. I don't think it needs to be complex, and I don't think he'd make that argument either. Complex music is fun, but technique exists in the simplest music. Things like working with a metronome to have good rhythm or ensuring you're not buzzing because of bad left hand work, or knowing where you can solo over a piece so you have real freedom when you're playing. These apply to everything. You feel them in all music. So I think this is less a call to sophistry, and more an argument that if you really love the music, then you should consider enduring more challenging practice which helps you to better express yourself on the instrument, be it in complex music or simple music.

YOU ARE DEAD RIGHT ABOUT PRACTICING SINGING AND PLAYING AT THE SAME TIME. I've been telling that to people forever, not necessarily about singing and playing, but about learning songs on the guitar, and it makes a huge difference. Slowing something down completely and practicing individual measures until you're able to play them all at a tempo that's musical in nature is fundamental in not only playing, but also learning.
Such a fun Q & A ! : ) That's really awesome that you mentioned being into Khruangbin ! They've been becoming one of my faves too over this past year or so. I just happened to stumble upon your channel a little earlier today, so I haven't had much time yet to really dig into all your work (but I definitely plan to) but I'm really glad that I found your music and channel just based on what little bit that I've gotten to see thus far. I've really been digging your playing & singing, and you've done some seriously excellent covers.. just your choice of covers in itself is pretty stellar. I think my favorite of the cover vids thus far is the cover of Crazy that you made with Allison Young (goodness gracious, that guitar arrangement really shines & your voices are so lovely together in the harmony sections). I also really loved your vid about exploring and trying to nail down Nick Drake's tone. That was a really special one to me, as I'm also a huge fan of his work and his style myself, and I don't see many people exploring his set-up and playing techniques too often. That pretty much made my day today
Thanks Josh...Learning some stuff about you was nice. I am a 56 year old fan from Flagstaff Arizona. I have been watching you on TH-cam from the start. Just flat out like what you do. Not to leave out your friends....all of them... My thanks to them too. My sincere gratitude until your better paid!

Question: How did the first Graceland concert in Leicester go? Answer: Absolutely brilliantly. Knockout performances all round. Josh was flawless and the Gospels choir full of energy. The rest of the band were all top talents, fine drumming and Nicola on everything brass. Fret less bass starred in two versions of Call Me Al and second guitar excellently played. Keyboard was the best too. This tour is going to be a blast. Thanks for a great unforgettable evening.

Greetings from Denmark! You did mention Django.. well this is my story: My dad and I had to do a track some time ago (a year or two) for a project. We got together, had a sixpack or three or four, and we recorded a good track, that later placed a good posistion in a competition at the time. The morning after, when we woke up, I showed him the video you did with Bergera, singing "All of me". In my family, we always listened to Django from time to another, but at this very moment my dad an I decided to get serious about it. That exact vid started it all! We went on examining gypsyjazz, soon bought (cheap) selmer-maccaferi-copies, taking lessons, learning about gear and stuff..! Today: Last month we did a paid gig for a national day at the local city, at friday we have a gig at a stage with a live big screen. People call us because they want us to play for them! That's just amazing! So.. thanks! And thanks again! You are making life better, funnier and more giving for us! Your vibes shines at us, and we are relaying them to our audience! Thank you!
Im 65 next Birth i am only now learning Guitar and writing music the story behind it is what is Important. Sadly people like myself and my songs will never make it in this world, but if singing is not about self first then we have achieved nothing only disappointment . Lessons ? you will only be as good as your hunger to learn. Well done Josh and crew. if you ever want to hear what I wrote then ask regards the Old Man lol.
I enjoy how your personality comes out here as in many of your videos. You seem to be extremely talented. I saw a video of you and your friends in London and you seemed a bit shy. I'm sure your lighthearted personality will eventually come to fuller expression!!
Very fun video Josh. I was hoping to hear a little more about how you and Carson met, and how thing beginning of your collaborating together came about.
Great stuff Josh. Amazing the way you study music. Thanks also for the guitar and music advice. You're one of the best musicians I've seen and it's all on your terms. Too much Josh.
I don’t know why but you always seemed much younger to me! We’re the same age but you’ve accomplished so much and I appreciate that you’re not somebody who is elitist in terms of what constitutes as “good pop music”. And boy, I too learned how to “read” music and after I wanna say 12-16 years, I still cannot properly do it although sight reading is slightly easier which might make no sense. On a note about you saying you don’t have a touring manager as of this video and while I’m not sure if it’s something that you’d be interested in doing, from what I’ve heard (and seen from smaller artists I listen to), house touring seems to be a reliable-ish sort of way for touring? A few of my friends who are independent solo musicians like you who don’t have touring managers (and other musicians that I’m a fan of), have liked house tours in the past just cause it’s a cozy and intimate way for them to perform in a smaller and quiet way and usually the people/fans who volunteer their homes for house shows are usually down to have the performers spend the night there as well which I’ve heard is pretty cost effective. Again, I don’t know if it’s something that you or anyone else you’d be touring with would be cool with that since you’d be discussing stuff like payment between yourselves and most likely a fan but it might be fun, who knows. Your editing by the way is, as the hip young people say, “on point👌🏽”.
Love it. Definitely wanted to know more about you after spending my ENTIRE day watching every video you have made. Very impressive talent young man and I especially appreciate your eclectic taste.
I like you a whole lot, Josh. You are talented as all get out; you are unpretentious; you don't look or act like a druggie or alky; your are smart as a whip. I am so happy that you get to dive in all the way as far as your musical aspirations. Truly living the dream.
Elaboration in the vocal development thing: The age that your voice stops maturing is dependent on voice type. Tenor voices stop maturing during your late 20’s-early 30’s and low bass voices stop during your 50’s.
Great advice Josh - Love your music videos love your harmonies Love that you cover old songs too. Love your improvisation & the fact that your a talented multi-instrumentalist at such an early age.
I believe IT will last for as long as you breath............. [ comic relief only : glad you got over your drinking situation ] Seen you & Carson in person for the first time last night in Portland, Maine. May I say thank you for a wonderful evening. Hope you both know the Poland Spring bottled water is just an hour away from Portland... It was amazing seeing and listening to you both live. I felt so happy and in a special place. Again respect and thanks.
you said, "sincerity does not take the place of technique." I would add, "and vice versa." I love you music! I hope you find your way to the Cincinnati Area sometime. I would love to see you live! Be well! God bless!
I love your music! Ladybug is my favorite song right now. You speak very well also. If I wasnt so poor I would be supporting your channel. Sorry about that
Brian Wilson as I am pretty sure you know, is considered by almost everyone in the music Biz, to be an absolute genius. Josh, I think you may be right up there as well my friend.
I'm a fan of just about all music I can think of, from the very earliest known music to the plainchant of the early medieval and the emergence of polyphony, through Renaissance and baroque (early music, both sacred and profane, is probably my favourite, followed by Indian classical music) but includes western and bluegrass, rock and roll, pop and rock music as well as jazz. That's one of the reasons I appreciate Josh's music so much, because he slips so easily between different genres. (Ever had a stab at the sitar or the oud, Josh?) Language and foreign languages are also among my hobbies, so I was especially intrigued to hear Josh sing a Georges Brassens song with such an authentic accent, though he said he never had one French lesson, which means he learnt it purely by ear. No-one, except for those who know about such things, can truly appreciate just how difficult that is, because it's one thing to hear spoken language, and another skill entirely to reproduce it faithfully - for the reason that, for most people, it's next to impossible, firstly just to hear the subtleties and nuances of unfamiliar sounds, but then they lack the vocal technique to be able to control their 'speaking apparatus' to produce what they hear. Many French listeners have confirmed the authenticity of Josh's rendition of 'Je m'suis fait tout p'tit', but his skill extends to other languages, too, which means he has a quite exceptional ear, as well as a prodigious musical talent on strings, of course. His advice to young guitarists - to learn the piece you're studying note by note and at a slow pace - is a precious word of wisdom from one who knows, because it is precisely there where the music (and the magic) begins. Thank you, Josh.
Well done... and we do know a bit more about the artist behind the art - cheers... I cannot wait until the pandemic lets up and music venues are alive again.
Very good insights on how to become the next Josh Turner. Thanks for the deeper introduction. I'm 71 and sorry to hear my voice has gone as far as it will go! I lived a few miles from Doc Watson and sat on his porch on Wildcat Rd while he played. We were doing a story for the Boone newspaper. SO... where in NC did you live? Fini was magnifique!
That “TH-camr” ending had me rolling. 😂😂 Thanks for posting. As you know, I’m a huge fan. Here’s to much upcoming success.

@@brimkathstampex2306 hahaha, Yeah Im real, why? 🤦♂️
Greetings from Denmark!
You did mention Django.. well this is my story:
My dad and I had to do a track some time ago (a year or two) for a project.
Delighted to see Reina, Toni, Carson and Josh are coming to Australia to help raise funds for the bushfire relief here in this state!
Thanks for sharing Josh! Was truly a pleasure meeting you in Indy! That Avett setlist from 2009! Whoah!
Nice to meet you , John! (well, see your videos anyhow). Love your music....
I enjoy how your personality comes out here as in many of your videos. You seem to be extremely talented. I saw a video of you and your friends in London and you seemed a bit shy. I'm sure your lighthearted personality will eventually come to fuller expression!!
Bless this young man for having humility. A shortage today with all of the narcissism.
Very fun video Josh. I was hoping to hear a little more about how you and Carson met, and how thing beginning of your collaborating together came about.
Hey Josh , have you ever considered covering Don McCleans “Vincent”.
Great idea! I love that song! ☺️
@@walkernick86 also american pie

@@walkernick86 Don't encourage him, please.
Great stuff Josh. Amazing the way you study music. Thanks also for the guitar and music advice. You're one of the best musicians I've seen and it's all on your terms. Too much Josh.
Hang on, Josh. If you hang around for long enough and do your best, you will be rewarded.
What part of Carolina man? Looking forward to seeing you in Brazil.
Truly living the dream.
happy early birthday josh!!!! your music helps me when times are rough.
Thanks for putting yourself out there with the Q&A! I think a lot like you do.
I love it. Keep being you. You are fantastic.
As amazing as you are, the fact that you like Moxie soda makes you even more amazing. Great stuff!
This really was a nice update. If they're anything like me, your fans really appreciated it.
Just found you a few weeks ago. You and your friends are very impressive. Keep up the good work.
this was great ,thanks for all the info , keep the music coming , i love it all !!!!!
Thank you. I really enjoyed getting to know you beyond the wonderful music you produce.
Elaboration in the vocal development thing:
The age that your voice stops maturing is dependent on voice type. Tenor voices stop maturing during your late 20’s-early 30’s and low bass voices stop during your 50’s.
Shame his vocal 'development', for want of a better expression, has gone on for so long.
@@brimkathstampex2306 How's yours?
@@Selvikus As good as it's ever been. Thanks for asking.
Great advice Josh - Love your music videos love your harmonies Love that you cover old songs too. Love your improvisation & the fact that your a talented multi-instrumentalist at such an early age.
Loved the video Josh, thanks for letting us get to know you a bit better :)
Hello, Josh. Thanks for posting. We are huge fans and we feel like you are quite a genius. Thank you for posting all that you do.
Again respect and thanks.
you said, "sincerity does not take the place of technique."
I would add, "and vice versa."
I love you music! I hope you find your way to the Cincinnati Area sometime. I would love to see you live!
Be well! God bless!
That introduction is gold!
12:30 Most important thing for a folk player to learn? "That sincerity does not take the place of technique."
Wrong. The most important thing is to be able to play properly.
That's his point mate
I'm coming to see you perform in Albuquerque on the 29th! I'm so excited! 😍😍😍
Thanks for the spectacular Q&A.
(Ever had a stab at the sitar or the oud, Josh?)
Language and foreign languages are also among my hobbies, so I was especially intrigued to hear Josh sing a Georges Brassens song with such an authentic accent, though he said he never had one French lesson, which means he learnt it purely by ear.
Thank you, Josh.
hahahaha i loved the ending. Anyway, its gonna be awesome if you guys really come to Brazil. I'd definitely be there.
mds ja pensou um show dele no Brasil?? what a dream
Well done... and we do know a bit more about the artist behind the art - cheers... I cannot wait until the pandemic lets up and music venues are alive again.
Thanks for the 3D insights in to "Who is JT?".
Looking forward to the 4D version.
Please consider covering "Waterloo Sunset" by The Kinks
Yeah or Victoria...
one of the best pop songs ever!
@@viaisgreen Agreed. Let's hope this musical incompetent doesn't cover it.
@@brimkathstampex2306 I think he is competent enough, if not the best at covering classic tunes, he's made mind blowing covers of songs in the past.
@@Selvikus Mind blowing??????????
Very good insights on how to become the next Josh Turner. Thanks for the deeper introduction. I'm 71 and sorry to hear my voice has gone as far as it will go! I lived a few miles from Doc Watson and sat on his porch on Wildcat Rd while he played. We were doing a story for the Boone newspaper. SO... where in NC did you live? Fini was magnifique!
I'm watching this because of David Bruce's recommendation. Subscribed.
