I haven't seen the show but if episode 2 is actually good, then it is probably because someone who could actually write, helped write it, and then got the shaft after it was done, it is also probably because the creator realized how much work, time, and money went in to animating action scenes, and chose not to put in the effort to keep making them.
Because celebrity worship is too alive and well in today's society. Hollywood know they can rub their vanity and degeneracy in the faces of normal people and there'll always be a huge group of us taking it to mean something good for us. I mean, there are people out there who genuinely believe Kanye West is an intellectual. Just because Morgan Freeman says something, doesn't make it less or more true than something my neighbour said, he's just an actor, not some godlike creature.
Cosmonaut Variety Hour is wrong actually. Ezra of course knows these are a bad thing, he's a fucking Twitter Communist lol. The show is a critique on Capitalism and the culture of elite out of touch shitheads. Kaz is a bad person, but he has no redemption arc because a redemption arc would be him overthrowing Capitalism. The show even critiques the Socialist character for the fact that while she rallies against the evils of Capitalism, she does so as a billionaire heiress from her bedroom in an elite house and her actions are only on the internet. When Ezra says the show isn't satire, it's a fucking joke, because it would be implying that the take on rich people is satirical, it isn't, this is actually how they are. To understand the subculture of the creator, go look up the "Dirtbag left" and podcasts like ChapoTrapHouse, everything is stepped in 1000 layers of irony and satire. Ezra is just talking shit to interviewers. The show is 100% not celebrating elites because as we see in the final episode, the demons are actually the vengeful souls of the working class who have been thrown to the trash heap by the rich. Also the joke with the Robot breaking down isn't that there isn't consequences, it shows that INSIDE THE ROBOT is a brainwashed pilot which everyone realised was in there but Kaz didn't know because he's such a vapid piece of shit he doesn't even acknowledge his slaves as human. The joke is the consequence is they have to catch public transport home, the worst thing possible for these rich kids of instagram. I really struggle how so many anime fans miss the point of this show and don't get any of it's commentary? Are weebs really that fucking autistic?
I was gonna comment to a similar effect, this anime seems to fit into the "Slice of life" kind of anime... except badly written, and the life it's a slice of is of a privileged rich kid
Well I'm currently poor and not only did I understand I also greatly appreciated this Anime and would love to see it make a return. I binged it a couple of times before Netflix pulled it 🤷🏾♂️🙌🏾✊🏾
And Jude Law who cant resist sucking the dick of anything remotely progressive. Im surprised he didnt work on After Earth, I guess it was too sexist. (yet somehow this show isnt?)
I feel like its a Garsey's Wing or Mad Bull 34 kinda thing. It's fantastically bad that it becomes a classic. I feel that Cosmo has missed the point here. That being said, I love watching Garsey's Wing and Mad Bull, but I personally didn't like this one as much. However, the inference that it's trying to be a good show that satirizes tropes if totally false, but that's not a criticism. The criticisms leveled at the show are accurate, but ultimately superfluous. It's not like Rebels or something else that isn't good but was trying to be. No one likes Garsey's wing, but it is INCREDIBLY entertaining, and this show falls into the same category. Neo Yokio isn't trying to be anything good, it's a total accident. And one can find a un-ironic enjoyment of how bad it is. Particularly in "technically" copying anime tropes, but missing all the nuance that makes them work, which is where the entertainment of the show arises.
"It's a joke so it's okay to be bad" No. Netflix didn't make a show for it to be bad on purpose. They make shows bad because they don't know how to make good ones.
but it literally is social commentary, i can't understand how the guy making the video and most of the comment section fail to see that. It's so clearly making fun of the rich
@@Dragonwing16it accidentally makes fun of people. Y’all literally missing the part where the creator STATED this. He literally shows you in the video. They did not do that on purpose at all. An audience finding a theme in a show intended to not have one. Does not make a good show. It makes it a guilty pleasure. A “cult” project. At best.
This show feels like an encapsulation of what mainstream popular culture thought 90s dubbed anime was like. It’s like an Adult Swim mid-roll parroting a Sailor Moon episode.
These are my thoughts. It seems like a telephone game version of anime some dude who watched like five collective episodes of Gundam and Sailor Moon thought was anime and heard it was cool and he took "inspiration" from, and that's their entire contact with any of it. It's absurd.
Jugal Why exactly? You can be familiar with things that existed before you were born. I mean if you didn't you'd be unfamiliar wth a majority of human culture.
How can this show be anime, if our eyes aren't anime. Seriously though, call it whatever you want. Call it "The Bible 2: Electric Bugaloo" for all I care.
As you were saying "This show isn't funny" and playing the clips I was laughing at the French Canadian driver joke lmao I don't think it doesn't try, it's definitely an absurdist comedy. I just think it takes a certain sense of humour
@@heytherescooterboys922 People are unironically so stupid they can't understand even the most basic satire now. Wtf happened to society? This show is almost identical to something like Seinfeld, the most popular show of the 90's. But I guess if Seinfeld had come out in the 2010's everyone would have hated it because Jerry was an asshole. What the hell happened to society?? Is it the schools? Something in the water? Something clearly happened.
@@nomorenames5568 considering there's a lot of people with dry or just pretty absurd humor on the internet that are decently young, I'd say it's more bitter people that are always looking for something to hate on rather than thinking critically and realizing-its not being serious. I just found out about this show today and I immediately got the idea that it wasn't serious (or totally serious) from small clips, but I understand that's just me. Still, I'm fairly certain if a high school teacher were to randomly put this on, kids would be at least intrigued. But imo, even if one may say the show wasn't treated fairly by critical people who focused on meaningless crap over what could actually be an issue (as far as I'm aware, almost nothing), I don't think it's necessary to keep doing this "society" thing. Things change, some for the better, others obviously for the worse. And since younger gens are learning from older ones, wouldn't the "real blame" be on the previous generations, as the newer ones are just following-for the most part-what they were taught? Just an additional "complaint" of mine, I really don't like seeing generations fight over who was better or had better stuff, especially when they experience such different lives based on _everything._
I find the series accidentally brilliant because of how shallow and meaningless everything is and how empty it is. It's so poor that it's entertaining, to me at least.
I respect your option but damn I find this show oddly charming. I even love Jaden Smith's dead inside shitty voice acting. And I don't even have a twitter account so this isn't just the hype talking. Good review though with fair points.
I think no one else but Jaden Smith could play this character. He’s so just, bizzare and narcissistic in every way that I could only imagine Jaden playing this role. Weather that makes it good, up to you, I’m personally conflicted
The worst part of postmodernism is how it became an easy excuse for bad writing. Regardless of if that makes sense from a "proper" postmodern perspective, it's how postmodernism is viewed--as a nebulous something about defying expectations somehow. And we expect shows to be good, right?
@@TheMikediaz100 Bojack Horseman is a really good show. I think shows like Neo Yokio, however, get to use the excuse of postmodernism to explain its faults, when it's really just a bad show. And if someone calls out its flaws, then fans can say that it's actually just a piece of postmodern art, and it's to progressive for its critiques. But postmodern or not, anything can be critiqued with various methods. As the Cosmonaut Variety Hour pointed out, even if you're not a fan of a show, there are still elements you can appreciate. I'd argue that even if you didn't like Bojack, you could appreciate many aspects of the show. But Neo Yokio doesn't seem to have any redeeming qualities at all, postmodern or not.
But here's the thing, at least with the Boondocks, the creator of the show himself mentioned how the anime "Afro Samurai" mesmerized and inspired into creating the Boondocks in the first place. And the Boondocks actually has amazing art, so you can tell how much passion and effort actually went into creating that show. But with this show "Neo Yokio," there's no homage to anything. The storyline is little to non existent, and the characters look like horrible drawings that one would find in a very very low budget KidsWB 1:00 AM show, from the early 1990s. Artist with real passion about something, even if they themselves suck at drawing, will usually make an effort to outsource good animators to produce their project, and they'll also actually put effort into a well written meaningful story, which this cartoon fails to do on all fronts. With the Boondocks, even though it is a somewhat inappropriate adult comedy lol, it still pays homage or tribute to the Afro Samurai and Japanese animation, however comparing Neo Yokio to anime would be a disgrace. Even with the Japanese anime called "Boku no Hero" otherwise known as "My hero academia," the creator of that show was heavily influenced by American comic book heroes. And you can see it in his art and storytelling. Even though I'm not much of a fan of the series tbh, (since the way one explosion character is written makes me want to pull my hair out lol) you can see how much passion went into the show. The creator of the series is a HUGE comic book fan, and has a Christmas tree of superhero figurines stacked on top of each other in his house, xD I'm not exaggerating. Neo Yokio is the perfect example of what a half *ssed project looks like compared to a passion project like the Boondocks and My hero academia. Update: Oh wait, now that I think about it Boondocks may have been influenced by "samurai champloo" instead, but I can't remember oh well xD
I knew there was a reason why I was so fascinated by this show’s absolutely insane story and pacing and this made me realize that it’s JUST an anime about Jaden Smith that he and Ezra tricked Netflix into funding. I mean I love it cause it’s batshit and I’m just floored by all of the things this show does but I unironically love bad stuff for the sheer audacity of it in general. The horrible animation, the voice acting, the weird borgoise world building, getting Jude-FUCKinG-LAW to voice the Robo butler?!!! It’s the biggest train wreck of a barely cohesive story I’ve ever seen and it makes me giggle between jaw drops of “what the fuck.”
i love this show and unironically think a lot of the lines are pretty comedic. Maybe it’s from my brown experience in america but their are q a few cultural references and jokes riddled throughout. admittedly they’re not the most clever example of these cultural jokes but they still get a chuckle. i like this show the way i like youtube poop
I want someone to make an abridged series of this. It'll be like Sword Art Online Abridged, where it makes up for the fact that it's source material is garbage by being way better than the source material.
What I really didn’t like was how the show looked. Everything seemed so flat and boring I liked the style but it feels half finished. Like they got the colors in a bit of shading and they called it a day
Exactly. Holy shit, I have rarely seen art this poor. It's exactly the kind of infantile conception you'd expect from a preteen just starting out as a weaboo amateur artist on deviantart. Everything about the design is outrageously bad.
I wish but it's impossible for me to sleep when my brain is being stimulated by light and sound. Although if I mute the tv and just have some background light, which is a major waste of electricity by the way, I could go to sleep but to be honest it's easier for me to sleep during the day because my room is light but I have certians to block the light and it's usually quiet enough even though I live in an apartment block I can usually sleep through a thunderstorm or a cyclone or an earthquake so some people slamming their fucking doors every time they go out won't really bother me.
It’s bait. They’re trying to provoke a reaction from anime fans by calling it a parody but targeting it at dude bros and edgy teens. It’s what people who have no idea what anime is think anime is or at least a very condescending look into it. The endgame is to bait a flame war between people who take Jaden Smith’s twitter seriously and insecure anime fans. Which thankfully did not happen. They were trying to make a viral video and that’s it.
xjayshao it's not even any of that. It was simply an empty whim by some bored celebrities with no vision, and nothing more. There wasn't even really a target audience. And somehow, that's worse.
xjayshao No, it doesn't even hide that it's not a parody. Ghost Stories is a parody. Well, at least the English Dub is. I freaking love that show. The only reaction this can illicit is annoyance on account of its awful voice acting. Especially Helena. The only one who's trying is that mech.
I mean if you actually read my comment you might see that I called it bait pretending to be parody and not actual parody. It targets people who already have preconceived negative impressions of anime and then jerks them off by confirming those biases. Meanwhile pissing off those who actually enjoy anime as a medium. Some people don't understand anime humor? Let's turn it up to 10 and make it genuinely unfunny. Ridiculous settings and characters? Make it even more ridiculous and pointless without any hint of world building or meaning. Hate Japanese voice acting for some reason? I mean sure there might be some legit points to be made here but hey, let's just get the actual worst actor ever to voice our protagonist to reinforce our bias. Of course, even that might just be giving them too much credit, but what I saw here was an attempt for manufacture a viral video that failed spectacularly.
Nishant Waheng, let me guess, some form of “my hero”, “AoT”, “SAO”, “Tokyo ghoul”, “fairytale” and “death note”? If you answered yes to at least 3 of these you have purchased the baby’s first anime edgy boy edition.
Sara Irvin the whole point of the video is that it's not and is actually just more of the Hollywood Who's Who patting themselves on the back, you blind buffoon.
Sara Irvin Except it's not. Ghost Stories was an Abridged Dub with linear story arc, but it's still an abridged dub because the source material took itself seriously. The Ghost Story Dub has clever use of pop culture references and parodies of anime. The people in charge said it was a bit ahead of its time because they missed out on making jokes about the Mel Gibson controversey. There was no self awareness in this cartoon. The only novelty it has is a novelty Toblorone. Ayyyyyy!
This show is funny as hell just watching it as a absurdist comedy, the amount of nonsequiters and warped logic of the characters is comedy gold, not to mention Jaden Smith, Steve Buscemi, and shit like the big Toblerone
Rich entitled dudes that are bored + Netflix who throws money at everything = Neo Yokio Also I weirdly can't stop watching it, as if I keep expecting it to get better.
I saw it on Netflix and immediately avoided the shit. Didn't know Jaden "My Eyes Don't Exist" Smith was in the show. Mow I'm never gonna watch this show.
Tbh though it was bad I was extremely jealous. I wish I had enough money to make my own animation I would pour my entire heart into it. Also to have the chance to make black anime characters, what a wasted opportunity makes me sigh.
I have the same problem. One of my lifelong dreams is making my own animated movie, but even if I had the money to do so I wouldn't unless I had a clear message that I want to tel trough the narrative of the movie (without it being ham-fisted) Seeing a chance of positively influencing others being wasted is heartbreaking really.
Well I've had this idea for a comic I've been working on for a little over a year now. It takes place in a fictional ancient world following a small group of elite soldiers (both male and female) who's main purpose is to do the kings dirty work. The main theme of it is what it truly means for a person to be strong or brave and is it better to accept what you are told or think for yourself. Its kinda of a philosophical story. Thanks for asking btw!
Dolphins will take over Jayden Smith can't do anything period honestly. He's a little ungrateful shit since he demanded from his father at 15 to be... I forget the term. Basically like emancipated or whatever to be considered an adult because boy there wanted any money he got to go straight to him. Like his dad would steal or do him dirty, or even take his money. He's garbage, can't act at all or nothing and is spoiled asf
But how do people become celebrities? Maybe children of celebrities, ex-girlfriends of celebrities, children of rich people, just shouldn't be celebrities.
i unironically really like this show. i don’t know if i was ever supposed to but i never really took it seriously and i just enjoyed its goofiness. i’m not saying it’s great but i just like it
I've never seen this show but the second I heard the creator saying that he made that opera singing character's hair blue because of Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus I knew he was trolling. Dude's got a real weird sense of humor but there's no way this shit isn't intentional in some way.
This show is such crap. I don't usually bash stuff like this, but for the life of me I just couldn't see a point in this show. I tried, I really did. There was no ability to connect to any of the characters whatsoever. In fact, they were all so shallow, vain, narcissistic and high class snobs, that I had a hard time figuring out which character was a worse person, and who I wanted to punch more. The fact that these characters are based on the personalities of the people who made it just shows that not only is it a garbage show made by idiots with no idea what they were doing, but that the people who made it were also terrible people on top of that
Indeed, the only reason I managed to get through this was that it was so bad that I was laughing. And the episodes are only a few minutes long. And there were only a few of them. And yes, it was boring. But I had another computer that was rebuilding and patching Windows 10, so naturally I had time. OTOH, Bo Jack is a personal guilty pleasure, but indeed, compared to Neo Yokio, is worthy of an Oscar.
It's pretty good with a solid style. My only problem is that sometimes they run the same or similar jokes a little too frequent to be considered a callback. It's rare though.
I meant no disrespect to the Bojack! LOL, I have watched every episode (most more than once). Nothing but love from me for Bojack Horseman. I only consider Bojack a "guilty pleasure" because I am an old fart who shouldn't be watching cartoons. Well, to heck with it, I am going to continue to! But seriously, "best shows on Netflix"? I'll raise you "Stranger Things" and "The OA". It's been a long and seriously messed up day today with the crap that went down and the rising death toll in Las Vegas, so peace, Bro9650.
I found this show frequently funny, though I suspect for entirely unintended reasons. Jaden Smith's brand of melodrama is so absurd and over the top that it usually illicits a smile from me. The problem is, the writers don't realize this strength (if you can even call it that) and don't attempt to lean into it. In fact, there are fewer and fewer moments of this way-too-far pretentious melancholy as the series goes on. That being said, I agree with virtually every single one of Cosmo's points in the video. Though I personally enjoyed aspects of this show, I would not recommend it.
Same here. I genuinely enjoy Kaz as a character because I find his extreme self absorption and melodramatic tendencies to be one of those "crosses the line twice" kind of things.
+julie martinez not it isn't, mainly because none of them are smart enough to write absurdist humour. Have a look at Boris Vian's work for a good entry point into absurdist humour.
I always appreciate a difference of opinions. So it's interesting to me to see someone not like Nei Yokio that often has an open mind. But to each their own. I've watched it about a dozen times and it's one of my favorite shows.
I personally feel like the show didn't try to be an anime but to be an anime shitpost. Like it's got it's funny moments and a bunch of shitty anime tropes. I kinda like it at times and sometimes it's really boring. It just feels like Sharknado at times.
I quite like how it didn't build up to any profound message. A bit like in The Great Gatsby, it explored various perspectives on society, celebrity and its absurdities, and then ended where it began, which is kind of what happens in real life- people just carry on, enjoying it all in spite of its darker sides. This makes me question my social and material values, and the ways in which other people are allowed to go around exploiting their own questionable values without consequence, more than a predictable 'consumerism is bad' message. But mainly, I just enjoyed the silliness and absurdity.
I mostly disagree. I thought the lethargic pacing and generally shambling plot was deliberate and a pretty good way to show the darker shades of people. I respect that it lets you interpret the morslity of it and doesnt force any kind of message on you it simply presents itself.
I mean, the creators themselves said they didn't meant any of that. Part of any for of media is that you're free to entretain yourself finding meaning in what the author made despite that not being their intention. It's not that it is not trying to force you into anything, is that it has nothing to say. Now, if from that wreckage and lazy storytelling you can find some meaning, that's great, even if it wasn't the intention of the author in the first place.
@@Karanthaneos I was trying to say that the fact that it didn't have anything to say was what made it interesting for me. Very few things are made without some kind of intentional message and that's why I found this to be particularly enjoyable the fact that it clearly doesn't have one of those and that it isn't all that well executed.
@@Karanthaneos the creators didn't say that the show wasn't intentionally slow-paced they said that it wasn't intentionally about showing how shallow it is to be rich.
The biggest proof the creator couldn't give less of a shit about the final product is having Jaden Smith do Voice Over. This guy simply can not talk. He doesn't have a pleasant voice and mumbles. From what I've heard in your review, his speech is hardly any better than in after Earth (and in that movie he was even supposed to talk weird)
Jaden is just riding out his father's fame. If he had nothing connecting him to Hollywood he would be just another useless unsuccessful piece of shit. I didn't even know the actor was him before watching this. I just thought they found a random shit actor who was cheap as fuck.
To be honest, I am actually interesting in checking it out (even if I know it is not good). How unfortunate that who knows how much money, time, and effort went into making this when all that could have went into something else. Someone could have made a Static Shock movie or something.
the number of comments here saying "bro it's satire you're just taking it too seriously/you don't get it" make me wonder how many people even watched the video before typing that shit up. Cosmonaut LITERALLY put examples on screen of the creators saying it wasn't a parody or satire, it was as serious as a heart attack lol. good video, awful show.
I wonder if ppl are srsly just trying to seem smart or if there are that many ppl so accustomed to assuming their interpretation to be correct they cant fathom that theyre reading meaning into a meaningless work.
I legitimately can't tell if at the beginning it was an actual parody, or it was just bad. No matter what, It's SO fun to watch. The Christmas special is definitely meant to be bad, though (I also can't believe they got Rashida Jones to voice someone).
I came into this watching it as the un-ironic equivalent of a badly dubbed anime with convoluted plot structure and OBNOXIOUS characters and I LOVE IT. If you watch it from this perspective, you might just love it! I thought that was what they wanted to do here. And if it is, it worked!!
Monogatari is dense as all hell. Even as a high-level weeblord with 20 years of animu-watching experience and a liberal arts education, there's so much packed into the scenes that it's an exhausting watch. I can't imagine what normies would think of it.
The one and only thing I like that came from Neo Yokio is in the Christmas special when Arcangelo made that song for Kaz. Unironically liked it. It’s a jam

Actually I think I found exactly why the show is sucky in the first place.
It celebrates the celeb-brats.
I really, unironically enjoy this show for how absurd it is. To me, it feels like the abridged series of Jaden Smith's life XD

Well, it is a parody.

This show feels like an encapsulation of what mainstream popular culture thought 90s dubbed anime was like. It’s like an Adult Swim mid-roll parroting a Sailor Moon episode.
It's like this. It's like watching an abridged version of what it's supossed to actually be, too.
These are my thoughts. It seems like a telephone game version of anime some dude who watched like five collective episodes of Gundam and Sailor Moon thought was anime and heard it was cool and he took "inspiration" from, and that's their entire contact with any of it. It's absurd.
People who didn't grow in the 90s shouldn't comment on that. The show is extremely influenced by 90's anime.

It's one of the funniest animes I've ever seen. Sad it wasn't appreciate. Very dry. Very silly.
@@heytherescooterboys922 People are unironically so stupid they can't understand even the most basic satire now. Wtf happened to society? This show would have been a riot in the 90's but todays kids are just incapable of getting the dryness of the humor. at all.

The worst part of postmodernism is how it became an easy excuse for bad writing. Regardless of if that makes sense from a "proper" postmodern perspective, it's how postmodernism is viewed--as a nebulous something about defying expectations somehow. And we expect shows to be good, right?
Were living in the age of meme
bojack horseman is a postmodernists work of art, do you believe that bojack is bad?
It's not post-modernism, but I think you overthought this a bit
Take it easy edgelord it's just a cartoon
The art design in this 'anime' looks really bad. Why does it look less anime than The Boondocks?

I mean I love it cause it’s batshit and I’m just floored by all of the things this show does but I unironically love bad stuff for the sheer audacity of it in general.

And somehow, that's worse.
parody would mean it makes fun of stuff or have references, this show has none of those so basically its just bad cartoon and its NOT FUNNY
xjayshao No, it doesn't even hide that it's not a parody.

Sara Irvin Except it's not. Ghost Stories was an Abridged Dub with linear story arc, but it's still an abridged dub because the source material took itself seriously. The Ghost Story Dub has clever use of pop culture references and parodies of anime. The fact that these characters are based on the personalities of the people who made it just shows that not only is it a garbage show made by idiots with no idea what they were doing, but that the people who made it were also terrible people on top of that
The point of the show is banality of the 1%. It's hilarious AND I got to use a big word in this comment.
ooh, you used a big word, big boy here
Indeed, the only reason I managed to get through this was that it was so bad that I was laughing.
Ken Davis BoJack is written pretty well for the most part
Ken Davis Bojack is legendary and anyone who tells you otherwise should be murdered
It's pretty good with a solid style. My only problem is that sometimes they run the same or similar jokes a little too frequent to be considered a callback. It's rare though.
WHOS TALKIN SHIT ABOUT BOJACK?!?
I meant no disrespect to the Bojack! LOL, I have watched every episode (most more than once). Nothing but love from me for Bojack Horseman. I only consider Bojack a "guilty pleasure" because I am an old fart who shouldn't be watching cartoons. Well, to heck with it, I am going to continue to!
But seriously, "best shows on Netflix"? I'll raise you "Stranger Things" and "The OA".
It's been a long and seriously messed up day today with the crap that went down and the rising death toll in Las Vegas, so peace, Bro9650.
I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes because of the voice acting.
Really glad I didn't
I got past the intro before i quit for the same reason.
This is my exact experience with the show as well. I only got to ep 3 though.
Same here. I genuinely enjoy Kaz as a character because I find his extreme self absorption and melodramatic tendencies to be one of those "crosses the line twice" kind of things.
I think this is more like "The room" of anime. It's fun but for all the wrong reasons.
+julie martinez not it isn't, mainly because none of them are smart enough to write absurdist humour. Have a look at Boris Vian's work for a good entry point into absurdist humour.
Most of the comedy is intended, people just don't get it's supposed to be bad on purpose, while also being bad, while also being not bad.
I think you’re seeing what you want to see man.
So it's Absurdist.
"Its a show about nothing! Everyone does something! We'll do nothing!" -George Costanza
Sheepy007 Jaden makes the charactet and the show muuuch more entertaining. It just fit kaz so damn well
Jaden acted in the get down and he was great
Jaden is just riding out his father's fame.
Literally all entertainment is a waste of time, energy, and money when your metric for being a waste is what other things it could be used on.
the number of comments here saying "bro it's satire you're just taking it too seriously/you don't get it" make me wonder how many people even watched the video before typing that shit up.
The Christmas special is definitely meant to be bad, though (I also can't believe they got Rashida Jones to voice someone).
hayao miyazaki warn us of this!
Shitpost: the anime
I came into this watching it as the un-ironic equivalent of a badly dubbed anime with convoluted plot structure and OBNOXIOUS characters and I LOVE IT. If you watch it from this perspective, you might just love it!
I thought that was what they wanted to do here. And if it is, it worked!!
When random american celebrities try to make anime and dont know what they are doing. Cory in the house is better.
I'm sick of the meme but i rather be watching Cory in the house then this garbage
When Cory in the House is unironically better
You sound like a fucking weeb
I know I’m late as hell but this anime is actually hilarious and way more self aware than people give it credit for. Jaden knows he’s a meme.
The Bobandy i agree
Why is this in Netflix and not monogatari or Evangelion (original serie) masterpieces??
You need the rights and an audience big enough to watch it
Monogatari is dense as all hell. Even as a high-level weeblord with 20 years of animu-watching experience and a liberal arts education, there's so much packed into the scenes that it's an exhausting watch. I can't imagine what normies would think of it.
Hulu has better anime selections
or Cowboy Bebop. and the reason is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Dude, there is Cowboy Bebop. Try to use the search function.
This show was great, you’ve clearly taken it too seriously. It’s a laugh. He’s meant to be a shit human that’s the funny part.
The one and only thing I like that came from Neo Yokio is in the Christmas special when Arcangelo made that song for Kaz. Unironically liked it. It’s a jam
FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WATCHED THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL YESSS
I acknowledge that it's complete trash, but I find something weirdly charming about the show that I can't explain
Lemme guess. The "so bad it's good" category? I feel the same.
Honestly I feel the same way. I love it on some sort of hidden wavelength.
That's the point. It's a trash-film in anime form. Who cares if it was intended or not.
How fucking high did the Netflix CEO have to get to allow this when a shitload of people are STILL waiting for knights of sidonia season 3....
Also good video Im subbing!
Cause rich people are rich.
Money buys pretty much everything.
Handsome Jack That and moar castlevania
Because two comparatively richer people wanted to do it, so Netflix agreed. Because of money. Ironic that it sucks.
That sonic music though
This is what Ezra Koenig was working on in between Modern Vampires of the City and Father of the Bride.
You can call a literal piece of shit art but at the end of the day it's still, in fact, a piece of shit.
TheFauxPaws you can call art a piece of shit, but at the end of the day its still art
Leopard Titus you forgot the word literal ;) there was a reason it's necessary to my point
Leopard Titus You can also scribble a name on a urinal and call it art, but that doesn't mean it is.
TheFauxPaws if it's in reference to nio yokio then you're using the word "literal" wrong.
