the question and answer at the 19:58 minute mark I have a question on. I am new to Medical Coding. In the question it states that the patient is diagnosed with " infarction of anterior wall" which would correlate to the I21.09 code. How do you establish your answer is the correct one? is it because the procedure that was done was to the left anterior descending artery?
Hi Victoria, not sure if you will see this question. Nonetheless, could you briefly explain the very last question of why the answer would not be I21.09 ,since the Dx is "acute transmural myocardial infarction of anterior wall, which is listed underneath? (I do understand the CPT code left anterior descending coronary artery). Thanks in advance!

i dont get why they want us to focus on speed rather than accuracy. the way it's set up with time, and multiple choice just lends to process of elimination and checking answers as opposed to a real world scenario of verifying codes. Just seems like it is setting up students to fail, but thanks for the tips!
Question: as a beginner in coding/billing, do you recommend purchasing a medical dictionary vs just using google? If yes to the dictionary, what’s the best brand and is it important to have the absolute current version?
I actually have several medical dictionaries and they do come in handy. I am still a student myself but I like Google when I just need a quick reminder but I use my dictionary for a better understanding of the term.

Hi, so I'm interested in taking medical coding class from my local college. I was told once done with the 16 week course, I then take the exam to CPC-A. Does that mean I can work as a coder? Are there any other exams I need to take to be certified? I'm just a newbie and have not much info.
Thank you for sharing this information. Can you please post what book you have in this video for ICD-10- CM. I Absolutely love how the book is already highlighted ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Hello 👋 i love love love your channel!! Im starting my medical billing and coding program in October 2023, the program is for 12months. I know codes change every year, when i sit CPC Exam i will be coding from the year 2024 books right? And would it be wise to just go ahead and preorder my books for 2024?
So I recently took the cpc exam. I was flipping to the answer sections while reading for question details and there simply was not enough time for each question. Any tips on guessing? I can code decently when do cases to practice but during the test there's not enough time to read anything, even checking all the codes to an answer takes too long. Thank you for your help
I am currently self studying for my CPC-A. , I have been a nurse for over 31 years and am now retired. I want to do part-time remote coding to supplement my Social Security. During my years as a nurse I had to do pre authorization for treatmennt and medications as well as, chart review for charge capture. Would this count as experience? Should I get certified in more than CPC? I found a externship on LinkedIn so hopefully I can apply and get experience that way since I didn't use a program. Honestly, most programs teach what I already know from being a RN for decades.
@@VirginiaFletcher-rz7dw hi, did you get a answer. I'm a nurse practitioner and looking to do something part-time that doesn't require an MD/DO to oversee.
There is no specific "license" required to use ICD-11 codes. Additionally, the United States has not yet implemented ICD-11 for health diagnoses and statistics. The transition to ICD-11 from ICD-10 will be a significant change, and as far as I'm aware, there's no set plan for implementation in the U.S. at this time. It's best to keep an eye on updates from official bodies like the CDC and WHO for the latest information on ICD-11 adoption.
Do you have access to this book or something similar while taking the exam? I work in the revenue cycle as a patients services lead for a multi specialty physician group and will be studying to obtain my CPC.
No, posting actual questions from the exam would be a violation of the AAPC Ethics policy. Also it is a certification exam, and not a state-based examination.
Hi, can you please help me with the correct guidance? I was planning to take my CPC exam by the end of Dec. My bad luck I won't be able to take it. Planning to schedule in 2024. Is it good to purchase a copy of the 2024 book or the 2023 book which I have already?

Hi Victoria. I have been watching some of your videos & in one of them, you mentioned flash cards to prepare for the CPC Exam. Can you suggest where I might be able to purchase these? Thanks!
Just to clarify, you can use the code books because it would be impossible to memorize tens of thousands of codes. And it's not easy, not by a long shot. It's a complicated manual with rules and guidelines, not simply looking up names and numbers like you would in a phone book.

The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. So, even though ICD-10-CM codes might update on October 1st, those changes won't show up in the exam until the new year rolls around. 🗓️ Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets."

Signing up for the CPC thru AAPC, looking to test by the end of the year, can i use the 2024 editions in 2023 testing year? Since it's so late in the year i would like to have the most current books and not have to pay out an additional 300 or so in 4 months just to have them.
No, you are only permitted to use the current calendar year or one year prior. You are not permitted to use 2024 books in 2023 and you wouldn't want to -- the 2024 codes will not appear on the exam until January 1 of 2024. The exam is based off calendar year.
