Iv'e spent a LOT of time getting my heavy tones where I wat them on the Fractal... this is really helpful getting my cleans to a respectable place, thank you!
Wow are you QUICK at doing these. I am impressed. I watched it a second time, now noticing that alot of the time you pulled up stuff from Saved Files/librarys, which does speed it up greatly. Not building from Scratch all the time, does speed it up for sure. I will bet you are a very busy person with session work, students, etc. Has Bandmaster, ods clean, mesa.
Late to the party, but great vid bro, just picked up a Fm3 a few months ago after playing a Stage Kemper, which I love but the Fm3 is a whole different animal, so this helps! Sweet playing also! Thx
Thanks for watching! I have both my Axe and FM3 set to +4. This is the typical "pro audio" setting for line level, -10 is more of a "consumer" live level but I have run into issues at certain venues where I'll need to pad down my signal and use -10.
Awesome Stuff!!! Thanks Mathew. Looking to create a preset that mimicked a Michael Laudau (Richard Marx) rhythm sound fro the 80s. Need to compress, eq, reverb and delay the signal. Is this something that’s possible on the FM3 and have you created one already?
The main trick with LA session guy clean tones is to not use an amp or an IR. You're essentially using the compressor as an amp, and then drenching the tone in effects. These guys typically used tri-chorus, multiple delay lines, reverb, and often Eventide H3000 micro detune. They routed the effects in parallel to avoid muddy sound, and they were in stereo usually. It's an evolution of the Nile Rogers funk thing where they plugged the guitar straight into the console. Also what you hear on Another Brick in the Wall.
Great question. I loved Landau's tones and playing. When I liked a guitar part back in the 80's/90's, it often turned out that it was played by Landua or Steve Lukather. I heard Steve say they had been in a band together in high school in a interview I watched recently. It was an "AH-HA!" moment.
Every amp I've owned has had great clean tones. My fave lately is a Port City Pearl 50w head. Now that I'm moving into modeling; I've been less than enthralled with the very clean jazz and country tones..until now. The combo of an FM9 (what a great unit!) AND finding your channel (I subscribed) have been a game changer. Thanks so much!!! Is there a preset pack for the FM9 in the works or will either the AXE III or FM3 do the trick? Again: thanks!
Thanks so much! Great to have you! As of now, all my presets on my site that are labeled for the Axe-FX III have worked on the FM9. Would love to get an FM9 soon though!

Really nice man!!! Thanks for sharing.
was really great thanks
I just put a Timmy Middle after the Comp and before the Amp (loving the Bandmaster). Added treble/less bass. Excellent! Perfect w this preset !
Nice! I'll do similar things with the RC booster
Would love to hear you do this with a 60's Marshall Plexi, clean tones.

Nice, Thanks!

Hello, amazing videos. Quick question, on your setup you have the level on +4 or -10? Thank you.

Landau tones all day with the FM3. Studio verb with circle delays, slight chorus and compression.

Video question my friend. How do you get the AX8 screen to display as part of your lessson? tia

Great video Mathew! Is it possible to open the preset leveling in a separate window like you were doing using FM3 Edit? Thanks!
Yes! Under “tools” in the toolbar up top you’ll find it.
