    i use my M1 ipad with a magic keyboard a lot but my issues are being forced to buy the new magic keyboard if i get the M4 and if i combine those 2 it costs more than a macbook air now, also the combine weight of the ipad and magic keyboard is as heavy if not slightly more heavy than a macbook air with less battery life. I don’t mind the ipad limitations but i can’t ignore the fact that a macbook air has no limitations and for the price of the M4 and keyboard i can’t bring myself to upgrade my ipad and instead i rather get a newer macbook.

      I am currently trying to decide between getting a new Macbook Air or the M4 iPad Pro, kind of crazy how the iPad with magic keyboard like you said is more than a brand new macbook...
      That being said, iPad's seem like the new and trendy younger sibling to the Macbook in my opinion, they pretty much can do the exact same thing as a Macbook and will work for 90% of users as a laptop replacement, plus most people would argue that iPads are a more fun and comfortable way to work and play with one device (you can detach the keyboard, draw on the screen, or just type like a traditional laptop). On a macbook you can only open the laptop and start writing. I personally have both devices myself and I can easily swap between the two to get all of my work done.
      Another last thing to keep in mind is that the iPad Pro with the M4 chip is more powerful than the Macbook Air with the M3 chip, you also get 120hz display on the iPad compared to the 60hz on the mac. the iPad is a PRO device, the macbook air is not.

      I agree with all that you said but I think it’s good to consider that if you go with the IPad and get a dupe Magic Keyboard like the ESR, which is half the price, you can use that saved $ for an iPad with cellular service and always have internet connection to do whatever you need

    • @ConorButkovic
      @ConorButkovic  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The price is definitely a huge factor when comparing the two. Having to buy everything new is annoying, but at least we should get a couple years of support for the new accessories (hopefully). And thankfully now the M4 package weighs the same as the Air which has been a weird thing for a while.
      But still a very valid point as getting a MacBook Air is always gonna be a better choice when looking at the price, macOS is needed in life regardless

    • @ConorButkovic
      @ConorButkovic  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s well said right there! The iPad is a younger sibling to the Mac, at least in terms of software. Like you said the iPad hardware is much better than the Air

      @@ianhull8183 That's a great point about being able to buy cheaper accessories with the iPad but I feel if you truly want the full iPad ''experience'' buying the magic keyboard and Apple pencil are just non negotiables and quite often the iPad is purchased just to use the accessories themselves.
      But, as you mentioned, if people are looking to save money between the two, they could totally opt for cheaper peripherals while still getting a kick-ass device without paying exuberant Apple prices for keyboards and pencils!

    I have used the iPad Pro seriously since the very first 12.9” in 2015. It depends on one’s personal software requirements if it can replace a Mac. I did use as my computer 99% of the time for 3-years, but today use in conjunction with 16” MacBook. For some things such as banking, music reading, TH-cam, note taking and reading it is the best, but some software is just not available for iPad which forces me to use the MacBook and even today some websites work better on Mac. But I travel a lot around the world and hate carrying both iPad and MacBook, so am intrigued by screens 5 which I have not heard of before and will now check out

    • @ConorButkovic
      @ConorButkovic  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They both have their ups and downs but of course they work best together (classic Apple)
      I would definitely recommend Screens 5 it’s a great Remote Desktop app. I can’t speak for the experience when connecting to a laptop so maybe just double check on that (battery drain etc.)

    I love my 2018 iPad Pro and it definitely has replaced my MacBook as my laptop computer… and my laptop - 2020 M1 MacBook- totally has become my desktop computer. I use my iPad for drawing and creating both raster and vector artwork… and for email and most other things. It is also the computer I take with me as a mobile device. I mostly use my MacBook for layout and printing and as a hub for my external storage… It is usually in clamshell mode attached to my monitor. I love that computing has become so versatile though and I’m glad to (finally!) see someone review the new iPad Pro through the same use case lens as myself and probably many other iPad users!

      Using the MacBook in clamshell mode as a desktop setup is what I use to do as well before going the desktop route, I never opened my MacBook! I am curious what apps you use for the vector work on the iPad? Are you in the Adobe suite or have you gone with Affinity? I haven't done much design work on my iPad lately but it was such a fun experience when I did

    • @mattpipes5106

      @@ConorButkovic I use VectorQ and Affinity Designer for Vector work on the iPad. I use the whole Affinity suite on iPad… the UI is different from the Mac version, but the features are all there, which I love. VectorQ is kind of like an auto trace app which I use to take drawings and graphics I draw in Procreate and make them into vector SVG files. It is a lot of fun to play with!

    I have had many iPads over the years starting with the first one in 2010! I absolutely LOVE my iPad - currently have the 12.9" Pro (2020) and the iPad mini 6. I love my MacBook Air M1, and my 2012 iMac, but I use my iPad Pro the most! It's just so convenient for just about everything I do. Looking to upgrade to the latest iPad Pro 13" soon

    An iPad is not a desktop replacement, no matter what people say... the apps are cutdown desktop ones, and while you can to the basic well, when you need real pro app with full features, you need a Macbook.
    iPad + keyboard can be more than a Macbook too...

    It looks like you’re using your iPad almost all the time like a laptop through the trackpad. You almost never use the touch screen and can’t find a use case for Apple Pencil. So what’s the point? Just use a MacBook which is cheaper and can run more advanced apps and OS.

    I have seen hundreds of these videos and they always address the challenges of content creators and high end apps where the conclusion is inevitably, the iPad cannot replace the MacBook or whatever thick device you are referring to. 90+% of the people in the audience do not create content nor need anything “Pro” but, we buy it to future proof. I would like to see a segment concentrating on that because, this is 100% capable of replacing the computer for the largest percentage of the audience. This is not a knock on this video rather, a trend of what i see that is not relative to so many.

Some reviewer point out the lack of stability and « top-heavyness » of the 13 inch model with the keyboard as a major problem but you seem to doing just fine with it .. unfortunatly it is not a parameter that is possible to test in an apple store to get a feel of the experience so could you give us some precisions about this supposed problem ? How was your experience ? If 10/10 was an optimal laptop experience . How many points out of 10 would you give to this combo for the ergonomics on lap ?

    I’m a network admin and IT project professional working with software packaging, testing different platforms and find it that videos like this does not take real productivity work into consideration at all. Sure some video/photo editing is now possible on an ipas as is video calls chats and light document work but corporate templates in Office on an iPad isn’t a thing yet like excel macros, powershell scripting, Virtual machines, and a whole slew of productivity apps in finance not even found on a Mac. Who needs a DESKTOP in 2024? I do all my work on laptops, yes multiple ones. A PC a Mac and several virtual machines for testing different policies and appplications for different clients. There is simply no way i could ever manage my work with an iPad. Most professionals wont manage

If you work in finance iPad isn’t for you. Bank not for you. Engineer, not for you. Basically light tasks can be done on an iPad and that’s mostly because of Apples view on iPadOS. But that most people could get by with an iPad just isn’t true at all. Sure granny with a bit of browsing email and FaceTime calls and some web app. That works. Students?
