Which is faster, The Seamoth or the PRAWN? [Subnautica]

I got tired of hearing "The Seamoth is faster than the PRAWN", since I believed otherwise, so I decided to put them both to the test in a linear race from island to island. I abused the mechanics of the game to get them both racing at their respective peak performances. The additive forward and upwards momentum of the Seamoth versus the grappling hook and thruster mechanics of the PRAWN. Who will emerge victorious?
Notes: The linear A to B distance of this race is approximately 2100 m, but both vehicles (mostly the prawn) will travel a distance greater than this (the main reason for the relatively low average speeds at the end, since it uses this estimate)
This race actually heavily favours the Seamoth, since it can go in a straight line from point to point travelling the shortest effective distance, whereas the PRAWN must travel in arcs near the ground. This means that the average "speed" of the PRAWN should actually be much greater than listed in the end, but to keep things fair I only included the average speed, assuming they both could travel in a straight line.

EDIT: Since it appears I completely overlooked that x-z plane strafing in addition to y movement further increases the speed for the Seamoth, this video isn't entirely accurate. The outcome, however, is the same. Using my best times (not used because they didn't look cool enough) we instead would have had:
PRAWN - 1:56:356
Seamoth - 2:01:250

The Seamoth? It should be the same principle.
-Angle your camera down and to the left/right (so your destination is in the corner of the cockpit view)
-Press and hold diagonally towards your destination on the left stick, while holding the jump button to make it rise.

gamelife vs Challenges Lmao. Why? It’s the second vehicle that can go into the lava zones, it can last in a fight against leviathans, and it can travel around the map at that speed. Bonus.. It helps you not have to go around picking at outcrops, for it helps you drill the giant ones. Why do you hate it?

Cave crawlers are slow as molasses. Travel in style, ride the phasegate.

For the goal, I just built a corridor through the hole above the water, and then built down to the post with vertical connectors, after which I could delete everything but the goal.
Before even watching this video, I can say from experience that the Prawn Suit is faster, but the Seamoth is more consistent. You can go stupidly fast by slingshotting yourself with the Prawn’s grapple arms, but you lose any offensive/collecting capability unless you sacrifice that mobility. Seamoth, on the other hand, travels at a consistent speed, is omnidirectional, and doesn’t have to sacrifice defensive capabilities for mobility. However, despite the Seamoth’s consistency, I still prefer grappling around with the Prawn, especially since it can go deeper and has much more health.
Prawn has storage especially for its other uprgades to change between situation

Wow. You really changed my mind, all you need is those specific upgrades, amazing skill with a prawn suit grappling and booster system, and a prawn suit. Which requires a cyclops. Which also requires a seamoth and radiation suit. But after my 70 hours of grinding for the suit, and training with the prawn suit I got it!
I've noticed that a lot of new/unexperienced players rely on the Seamoth but rarely if ever use the Prawn Suit, despite of all the advantages. Mastering its controls might be harder than with the Seamoth, but once you've got the hang out of it, its better in nearly every single way. The Seamoth is fine for the safer areas of the game and the ones that are closer to the surface. But if you're going to most of the mid to late-game areas, I'd definitely recommend the Prawn Suit - I've personally used it to go all the way from the safe shallows to the primary containment facility and back without any problems (or portals lol). Its also safer as it isnt as easily destroyed by leviathans and most importantly has a higher crush depth than the Seamoth. It also allows you to drill large ressource deposits, which are an absolute blessing for everybody that likes building big bases. And, of course, my favorite part of using the Prawn Suit is that playing DOOM music while piloting it is a quick way to make leviathans go from the hunters to the hunted lol

Without upgrades, the Seamoth would have an unfair advantage because the Prawn wouldnt even be able to reach the finish line, so if you ever wanna try this out for yourself, making sure you have upgrades so it's actually possible for the Prawn, because without the gripple arm and the jet pack thing, the Prawn would lose because it couldn't even complete the course

I believe you are correct on two counts.
Yes, the propulsion cannon (gravity gun I guess) can be used to pick up many things in the game, including the cave crawler. The cave crawler is coded to stick to surfaces, and therefore will not rotate if picked up which means you get a nice platform that will not rotate to throw you off when holding it with the propulsion cannon... A very angry and bitey platform
You can also use any item in the game to do the same thing I recommend the air bladder as it has a very big hit box

Seamoth is the easiest to use with great mobility (180 turn and the easiest to go through caves and up mountains imo) with the lowest defense, decent speed, and the deepest it can go is 900m. Perfect for beginners, people who wants an easy-to-use mobile vehicle, and can be used to scout.
The Prawn Suit has the second best defense, higher than seamoths but lower than the cyclops. It has the absolute best burst speed, faster than both the seamoth and cyclops, if players have the grappling hook and can be helped with the jump jet upgrade. Walking, it's probably the slowest but players only should walk when scanning the area basically. It can protect players from acidic parts of the game (in the lost river) and can withstand heat as well as having a built-in storage with up-gradable arms that can have a drill, grappling hook, basic arms, or propulsion cannon. The deepest it can go is 1,700m. Great for travelling fast, extremely versatile, and probably the best vehicle for endgame. Can be used offensively and defensively in the right hands.
Cyclops is the biggest vehicle in the game. This is easily the slowest moving vehicle. Players can use a burst speed mode, but that comes at a great cost of burning the engine if used too long. This vehicle has the best defense in the game, having a whopping 1,500 health. It is extremely useful as it can hold the seamoth and the prawnsuit inside and charge them as well as repair them if players have the upgrade for it. Players can build inside the cyclops, meaning players can have modification stations, a mini garden, lockers, battery chargers, and anything that can fit inside the cyclops. Ironically, the cyclops is the stealthiest vehicle in the game, being able to go in silent run mode while piloting it so creatures such as leviathans do not attack. Players can also turn off the engine to completely be invisible to attacking creatures AND deploy a creature decoy to distract the creature while players make their escape. While not meant for great travelling, it is awesome for being a mini base for the player in another area while away from their main base. The deepest it can go is 1,700m.

I recently got into another Playtrough and i think i forgot how much i hate the Prawn. Now that i've seen this, i gotta try this out!

On a legit note I didn't expect the prawn suit to have a snowball's chance in hell versus the seamoth. And I never accept back to the crab to be either one LoL. That was really quite fascinating and f-ing hilarious.

I feel like this might be a bit biased, seeing as you're using duel grappling arms for the prawn and no upgrades for the seamoth (yes, I do know it has to mods that improve speed, the point is the prawn gets a handicap in this race). But I definitely prefer grappling with the prawn anyway. It's actually interesting!
I mean, granted. But we're talking only about the respective maximum achievable average speeds. So I don't think there's anything unfair about it. If the Seamoth had speed upgrades, I would have put em on!

Yup! But remember that usually you don't use two grappling arms on a prawn suit, it's either one grappling arm or none. One grappling arm severely cripples movement, and without grappling you'd be slower than a seaglide. A seamoth wins in speed, usually.
Ever tried grabbing a spadefish with the PRAWN propulsion arm, grappling it, then launching the fish while still attached? I've been able to launch myself at speeds up to around 40-50 m/s! I've done some testing and found that this works best with the spadefish, rabbit ray, and jelly ray.
That's nuts.
And just the kind of shenanigans that I'd expect from the Subnautica physics engine.

Also, if you think about it. The propulsion cannon would fly in real life because it's trying to pull the item closer to it but if something blocks it, it will bring that item with it.

the only problem is that the prawn seemed to have 4 jet upgrades. Without the extra fuel it's slower.
It doesn't make a shred sense to not upgrade the PRAWN if you are comparing the respective peak performances of the vehicles, as per the description. The only comparison that is fair to make is the optimised, fully upgraded, peak performance of both.
But no, I only gave the PRAWN one jet upgrade. Most of the time is spent tapping space, and not holding it.

Love your editing, really nice. I hope you'll make new videos when the Below Zero expansion comes out. Your editing is really funny, the music is fitting, and I like it way better than every other youtuber's edits.
