  • I recently had an opportunity to race both my Honda CRF250X and my KTM 250 XC-W in two different motos at the Windwood Farms Harescramble. Here's what happened.

    I made this video to compare two bikes in my garage. The intent was to see which one (of the bikes I own) would suit me better in a race. The bikes don't have a lot in common except that I own them both (at least I owned them both at the time of the video). Just sharing that in case you saw it as an odd comparison. Thanks for watching!

    Great video! With the different characteristics I say you did excellent switching from one to the other in between motos. Times show you adapt well.
    In future races I think you should race the Honda..especially the races I go to. : )
    Good luck tomorrow and stay hydrated, it's gonna be a hot one...too hot for me.

    Great video! I'm a late 40s newer C racer up here in Michigan. I have a '20 300 XC-W and love it for enduros and tight hare scrambles. But here we have something called Sprint Enduros that have a tight Enduro test and then a cross test that uses an MX track as part of the course. Also some of our hare scrambles will be wider, faster and use an MX track as part of the course. As much as I love the XC-W in the tight woods in the faster stuff, whoops and MX jumps it's not ideal. The XC-W is an Enduro bike so that goes without saying. So I decided to add a cross country bike and picked up a KTM 350 XC-F. Depending on the course I choose between the two. If I could only have one bike it would be the KTM 250 XC. The 2-stroke motor works great in the tight woods and on a track. The XC's cross country suspension works pretty good in the tight woods but works much better than the XC-W's Enduro suspension in the faster stuff, whoops and MX track.

      Having 2 bikes to choose from is ideal in the scenario you described. Thanks for watching!

    Best way to compare two bikes! Nicely done. Stick with the 2T!

    As always, great video. I would prefer the KTM because as a customer I always have the feeling that they like me.
    Good Race Donni, If the time intervals are so small, your first victory will taste particularly good

    Good comparison, the snake scene was pretty wild. Do you think fatigue could have played a role in your 2nd Moto lap times?

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fatigue probably contributed but I felt pretty good after I got the blood flowing again in the 2nd moto. Thanks for watching!

    I’ll be in this same class next year. Great video. You definitely seemed more comfortable on the ktm. I ride a 4 stroke but it seems all the guys that ride 2 strokes and try a 4 stroke have an issue with the engine braking and they say the 2 strokes power is more immediate. Last 2 stroke I rode was about 20 years ago so I couldn’t even remember the difference.

    Taking into account that you were dehydrated and had trouble pulling the clutch in and that it took you half a lap to get familiar with the honda along with fewer hours on the honda, those time differences were pretty good. If you are trying to decide if you want to switch to 4 strokes then you might want to give the honda an equal chance. 200 hrs ( with race time ) vs 10 hrs of just riding is huge.

    Hey buddy!.... can you tell me if you have ever ran your gopro for 3 or 4 hours of straight recording? If so has it ever over heated and shut down? I'm looking for a small action to record for them 3 or 4 hours straight incase of a accident. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE ME

      Get the Sony fdr x 3000 it has been more reliable for me than the go pro's and has physical image stabilization. With an external battery set up and a 128 gig card I can record for 11 hours straight.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie

      I have done it with time lapse videos on long drives, etc. GoPros will overheat easily if you have GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and stabilization all turned on at the same time. If you turn off GPS and all wireless connections they rarely have any issues. Thanks for watching.

      You'll never see thumpers in enduro. 4t-MX, 2t-single track. This is not a mystery.

    • @curvearounddog3377
      @curvearounddog3377 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@noirxplorer3185 there are a lot of enduro thumpers on the market. A few of the top riders fun them, but most run the 2t. I've heard the wr450 is praised in Australia enduros. I'll always be a 4t guy for the better gas mileage and reliability and low end grunt. Of course I'm a crf/xr guy though so I'm not really qualified to talk about the modern 4t enduro bikes but I'm sure they're not too bad.

    I am 15 and ride Cross Country. I am getting a little big for my KLX140 either thinking of getting a Kawasaki KX250F or a Honda CRF250X. What would you think is the best option for xc?

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know a lot about the Kawasaki but you would probably need to spend some money on suspension to make it a good woods bike. The Honda has estart and that’s very nice to have on a woods bike. Either bike is a huge upgrade from the 140. Thanks for watching.

    Great video. Glad you know what you like and enjoy the 2 strokes, but 100% not a fair comparison when you have ridden one bike 200+ hours and the other 10.🤣 Every time I see a video of someone who rides one type and is comparing.....they always end up liking the same choice. The one they have more time and experience with. It is not a bad thing as choices are great and everyone should ride what they like, but it ain't like the 4 stroke is slower for those who ride them as many champions have been won on 4 strokes.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. This video wasn't intended to be a fair comparison for others trying to make a choice. It was simply to see which of the two bikes in my garage suited me best at the time. I stated my bias in the video explaining that I had far more racing and riding time on the KTM. The video is a snapshot in time. You've seen some of my more recent videos and I'm sure you've noticed I'm racing another 4 stroke these days. Thanks again for watching.

    I'd like the 4 stroke better and honda is a great bike. Not for nothing the crf 450r is the actual winner.
    The crf x is just less hp but motor is more durable since it's made for endure tracks.

    Dude only a novice would compare a 250 thumper to a 250 smoker. There's a reason pros use smokers for single track & thumpers for MX. It's not a secret. HP wise, a 250 smoker compares to a 450 4t. 125 to a 250 4t. But smokers don't race MX much anymore.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm fine with being a novice because I'm just a guy having fun on my dirt bikes and making a few videos. But I think you missed the point of the video. These are two bikes I have in my garage. I ride them both regularly and I was interested to see which bike I would do better on in a race. It's not like I had an opportunity to compare ANY two bikes in the world and I chose these two. It was a comparison to see which one of my bikes I'm better on in a harescramble. I hope that helps. I appreciate you watching the vids and commenting.
