The reason why it does that is because your Mac is out of date. It has to be a 2017 or older Mac I think. In order for it to work you have to get a new startup disk and hard drive. Hope this helped

Ok...So far your tutorial is working but when it comes to 'erase' I do not have option for format APFS. The options for me are Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (Journaled Encrypted ) (Case - sensitive, Journaled) (Case -sensitive, Journaled, Encrypted) ExFat and MS-Dos (Fat). I'm following the steps, starting with shutting down the computer > command + R > seeing the Apple logo and the loading bar > but then I see the login page with no options other than to shut down, restart or sleep. Any clues?
FIXED! Hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons together for a few seconds with the laptop turned off, then hit > options > then you'll get the same language screen then proceed as normal. (I'm running a brand new 16 inch macbook pro, purchased July 2023)

Looked at a couple of other videos that were just trying to steer me to Instagram to pay for advice. I had almost given up when I found this. Did the simple erase and reset, currently installing updates to High Sierra. Also went in and EASILY removed the password. (I know HS is unsupported but I’m good with that right now. ) This IS legit and THANKS!
First tutorial I've seen on TH-cam where it spoke of how an Apple ID wasn't required (in cases where personal files won't be saved). Up until watching this video I thought there was no way to reinstall Mac OS without the Apple ID.
Awesome video. I wanted to clean up, and reset my 2018 Macbook Air 13", in order to sell it. This video provided the basics of what I needed to do to accomplish that. There were a few steps that were unique to my device, that I had to figure out on my own, but after watching this video several times, before trying this, I was able to figure out the in between steps, while pausing this video, to get to the next phase of your video, to get it done. I have iMac 2007 El Capitan and I have tried like more than 20 times this process and it never get to factory reset settings 🥺🥺 I tried letting go command and R at the same time go before the apple logo blinks and after and holing always never letting go and letting go at the beginning of shelling the Apple Logo and nothing seems to work ! Do you have to have an original keyboard like apple keyboard ⌨️? Did this to work ? I have this third party keyboard non Apple one maybe that’s the issue ?

But following this tip and step made me able to access my MacBook again, at the cost of losing my data. But I was able to access my MacBook again and that’s all I’m glad for. And now it’s saying oh OS X could not be installed on your computer. No packages were eligible for install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.

It worked well till the middle but than it asked me Apple ID, I used the one I am using for my iPhone. It said this ID is only available in UAE, now I am in UK. What to do please advise? This man is a Life Saver, my MacBook Air does not have an option button, and most factory reset methods require it. However, this method did not, and so I was able to factory restart my MacBook Air swiftly, easily, and securely; thanks!
while restart MAC book, holding command+R key and then released. it went to activation lock window and asking apple id to activate MAC. without activate i am not able to reset. any other way to reset MAC book.
APFS isn't an option for me. working on an old 2009 mac book that i think has lion installed but otherwise isn't booting normally outside of accessing recovery mode. can't remember my old apple id which is annoying af and appple is just saying recycle it. If I erase into Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and go to do the reinstall the OS it still asks for my Apple ID in order to do the install. Super frustrating stuff.
@@TechandDesign Yeah i've tried my current apple ID, which uses my current email - but that email is newer than back when i used to use this old laptop, so I'm guessing I had a different one back then. I had briefly left the mac family and so i must have just recreated my ID entirely

I am trying to reinstall after deleting it previously for a new owner for my laptop. Now I want to install the OS. It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation". Changed the date and time still nothing. So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.
go back to the yardsale and do this in front of the owner. Which is what you should have done in the first place to test out the mac and to make sure there are no passwords
I would return it. if they son didn’t trust his father with the password to his computer than there’s nothing we can do. that said - you should always test things out before you purchase
Thank you, but it's not working exactly like you show. Possibly due to my 2007 iMac with El Capitan OS. At the point where I click install, I'm given the "sign in to download from the App Store." asking for my Apple ID and Password. I'm given only the choice to Sign In or Cancel. I've tried both. The Cancel stops the install of OS X and entering my Apple ID and Password installs my iCloud data and information. Is there a way to clean my hard drive, and not include my Apple ID when I reinstall El Capitan?

how did you fix the wifi connection? I do not know if it is possible to connect to wifi by putting a password on the recovery screen.
I do the startup holding command & r but the icon blinks on then off and all I get is activate Mac and all it will do is reboot or shut down.

for newer macs, like the MacBook M1 command R will not work. but holding the power button will , that is correct

This man is a Life Saver, my MacBook Air does not have an option button, and most factory reset methods require it. However, this method did not, and so I was able to factory restart my MacBook Air swiftly, easily, and securely; thanks!

while restart MAC book, holding command+R key and then released. it went to activation lock window and asking apple id to activate MAC. without activate i am not able to reset. any other way to reset MAC book.

APFS isn't an option for me. working on an old 2009 mac book that i think has lion installed but otherwise isn't booting normally outside of accessing recovery mode. can't remember my old apple id which is annoying af and appple is just saying recycle it. If I erase into Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and go to do the reinstall the OS it still asks for my Apple ID in order to do the install. Super frustrating stuff.
your old Apple ID is your email
@@TechandDesign Yeah i've tried my current apple ID, which uses my current email - but that email is newer than back when i used to use this old laptop, so I'm guessing I had a different one back then. I had briefly left the mac family and so i must have just recreated my ID entirely
if you don’t remember your email from before just take the Mac with your receipt to the Apple Store and they will reset it for you (free)
@@TechandDesign Yeah tragically I don't have my receipt from so far back. Hence hopping on this video about doing a reset without an Apple ID. Am I just bricked out? Useless tech?
you can only get bicked out unless the owner reports it stolen.
So you should be fine.
I don't have APFS options and I am prompted to put in Apple ID and they want the previous owners...
journaled is fine. and yes this is what you do in front of the owner to test the mac and also to make sure there are no passwords or anything

I have TWO internal memory options. Do I erase both?
I am trying to reinstall after deleting it previously for a new owner for my laptop. Now I want to install the OS. It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation".
Changed the date and time still nothing.
So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.

don’t buy macs that are stuck at install. they might be black listed / stolen so they are locked

go back to the yardsale and do this in front of the owner. Which is what you should have done in the first place to test out the mac and to make sure there are no passwords

I would return it. if they son didn’t trust his father with the password to his computer than there’s nothing we can do. that said - you should always test things out before you purchase

Thank you, but it's not working exactly like you show. Possibly due to my 2007 iMac with El Capitan OS. At the point where I click install, I'm given the "sign in to download from the App Store." asking for my Apple ID and Password. I'm given only the choice to Sign In or Cancel. I've tried both. The Cancel stops the install of OS X and entering my Apple ID and Password installs my iCloud data and information. Is there a way to clean my hard drive, and not include my Apple ID when I reinstall El Capitan?

My options are different, i get:
Mac OS Extended ( journaled)
Mac OS Extended ( journaled Encrypted)
Mac OS Extended ( Case-Sensitive, journaled)
Mac OS Extended ( Case-Sensitive, journaled, Encrypted)
not the format you are describing on the video, so when i got the
restore OS, takes me to the ID and password request. Can somebody help?
