- In today's quick video I show you how to clean air purifier filters as well as how to clean HEPA air filters in your home air purifier. Replacement air filters available on Amazon here -
Levoit Model H132 - amzn.to/3sUCZD3
Levoit Model 400S - amzn.to/3N4s42G
I currently own two Levoit air purifiers for my home and they do a great job at filtering out dust, pollen, pet dander and more. They both feature HEPA filters and to keep these air purifiers working like new, you will want to remove the dirty air filters and clean them on a regular basis.
Luckily, in this quick video, I show you how to do this using your home vacuum cleaner and/or shop vac. You will want to clean your air filters every couple weeks or more. And replace them every 4-6 months.
Well everyone, I hope you found today's video helpful on how to clean air purifiers on your HEPA purifier or Levoit models.

I bought a Levoit at home Depot. For my bedroom. My nose constantly ran every night. After 2 days of using the air purifier my nose stopped running. So the air filter worked. Im very happy with my air purifier. Now i wanna get one for my living area.
Thanks for sharing! Glad it hear it works well for you!
Thanks for the great tips. 👍🏼On the large model, I also ran the flat stick vacuum attachment up and down, all around the inside of filter (the inner black core plastic holes). Saw a lot of dust come out that way.
Nice! Glad to hear it!
Good idea I’ll give it a try tomorrow, because my wife and I also have dogs and like you mentioned they tend to kick up a lot of dust.
Best of luck Matthew! Let me know how it goes! I am sure you will get lots of dust out!
Was debating about getting some govee purifiers and this helped me seal the deal
Glad I could help! They really do an amazing job.
What an easy simple tutorial. Great video thanks! 😁
Glad it was helpful!
Vacuum out is ok but do not blow air into the filter it will jam dirt in farther and cut down on efficiency of the filter. Change filter every six months as shown on this video.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing Kenny! I haven't had any issues with blowing it out but will keep an eye on it.
you could blow air from inside
Yes, only blow from the inside/opposide side to where the heavy dust shows (vacuum first like you did) and make sure your vacuum is outside or else the tiny particles from the hepa will be blown thru the hoover and back around the house
Isn't it just easier to rinse it off and let it dry?
Yeah you know what, my big Stihl chainsaw has a main filter on the carburetor and then a secondary filter that stretches around the outside of that filter. One of the mechanics at work said the same thing to me about those filters. I blow both of them out with my air compressor. I’ve been using those filters for over twenty years. Guess what, my chainsaw still runs like a champ. If this guy does the same thing with his filter, then I’m going to do what he suggests. Because quite frankly I don’t want to purchase a new filter every three or four weeks
That’s what I do to extend the life of the filter. It’s a good hack. Those filters are expensive!
No doubt. Very expensive 😬
Thank you for sharing your video, JMG Enterprises. It was very informative, and I already have a shop vac, so I am good to go.
Glad it was helpful!
PERFECT!! Thanks for sharing!
Hope it helps!
Use the vacuum hose with brush extension. Much easier than just cervic tool
Good to know! I'll give that a try!
Thanx for this video
Most welcome!
this is a great rather than just buying a new one
Exactly!!
Great video thanks for that wasn't sure how too clean my hepa filters 😀
Happy to help!
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
Glad to hear you are getting good use from yours too!
thanks bro
You bet!
Love the video! I'm wondering if you've ever considered becoming a game show host. Your voice is the money!
Maybe one day! Haha. My father told me that a few times growing up too. Lol. Glad you liked the video
thank for the video! so after cleaning the filter, we don't need to buy new filter?
I would still recommend getting a new filter every 6 months at least
Are you blowing with or against the direction of the filtration air flow? It does make a difference.
Good advice. Yes, I blow it through the direction of air flow.
Love it! (or should I say Levoit it). No. I will stick with the first one. Thanks.
Good choice! It's a good unit!
Thanks
Anytime!
@@JMGENTERPRISEShey it’s Matthew again, do you possibly know anything about “Ganiza Air Purifiers “? It has a indicator light that changes according to the air quality in your home. Green is good, yellow is kinda in between and ending in red which is obviously bad. I’ve read the owners manual and I’ve looked on TH-cam and asked the internet hoping for a answer on how to reset my air purifier all to no avail.
I suppose you wouldn’t by any chance know how to reset that would you?
It’s made in China and they don’t have a toll free service number for me to call and ask. And I’ve unplugged it hoping that might reset it, and I’ve looked at the purifier itself and I can’t figure out how to reset that. I suppose if I can’t figure it out then I’ll just return it to Amazon for a refund.
If you blow from the inside of the filter (reverse normal airflow) you might get better results. Blowing from the inside while sucking from the outside would be the best I would think (if you have that option).
Thanks for sharing! Good to know
I used my leaf blower inside after vacuuming the outside.
I never knew you could clean. I just figured I need to eventually buy a replacement filter (600s).
I might be able to get a few more months out of the current one. Thanks.
Yes you can!
@@JMGENTERPRISES if I keep 24h on the purifier, when should I change the filter?
@@_Phoenix_. It really depends on the usage and your environment. Do you smoke? Do you have pets? Where do you live? etc
@@JMGENTERPRISES 1😝+QQ
I went on the website and they said that the filters can last up to 5 too 10 year if you give the good care
Do you know how to clean the blades inside of this? I was moving my purifier and accidentally it disassembled and sucked in all that accumulated dust into the blades. Now it seems to blow more dust into air than filter and I am at loss.
I'm not sure. I've never done it. Hope someone else can answer that for ya
Witch filter is better it look’s that the small one has better pre filter? Beacuse it got more dust ?
Honestly, I notice more dust come off the big filter. I think I had just waited longer in between cleaning the smaller one so it had more dust in the video. They both work great. Small one is good for bedrooms.
@@JMGENTERPRISES is the small one god for 220 square feet room?
My purifier has a light to let me know when to replace the filter, my question is do I actually need to replace the filter as soon as the light comes on, or can it still be used a few more times first?? Also, my filter has never looked as dirty as the ones in this video, and I only clean it once or twice a month, so does that mean the filter can be used longer???
The light is just on a standard timer. I would remove the filter and take a look. Typically, you can get a month or two more once the filter light comes on but this is variable.
@@JMGENTERPRISES Ok, that's what I thought. Thanks for the reply!
Thanks bro👍... every week and you get that much dust...is that average or you having renovations done 🤔
That's just average. I have two big dogs. I think that's a big part of it. Lol
My red filter warning symbol comes on as soon as i press the power on. And ive given the filter its first clean, im guessing flow restriction is the only thing to trigger the warning??
So the filter is still fairly new? Have you tried resetting the filter light by pressing and holding it down? The filter light usually just goes off at scheduled times.
@@JMGENTERPRISES this is where i hold my hand up and admit to having not read the instructions 🙋🏻♂️🫣
Thank you, i will try that! and yes the whole thing is fairly new still.
@@gravey07 No worries! We all learn at some point 🙂 I didn't know about the reset either until my friend showed me. Haha
These filters look clean now, but their efficiency is reduced. I vacuum mine quarterly but bite the bullet yearly and replace.
Good for you!
So you would never turn the water hose on it to flush it out?
Unless the filter says it's washable, I wouldn't recommend it. Easy way for mold to grow unless you let it dry for a for a full day in 100 degree heat.
Question is, if thats possible to dismantle the big filter.
I'm not sure sorry
Can u use water
Usually water is not recommended
Blow from
Inside out! Just like you would to clean your k&n air filter on your diesel truck!
Good tip!
I have a strong in house vacuum cleaner that cleans the outside of the filter.
The problem is that I can't clean the inside black of the filter which has lots of dust.
No pets and I have been using it for only one month.
Can't you pull out the filter and vacuum both sides?
I can take out the filter, it's like your larger air purifier. I can vacuum the outside of it, but not the inside black part. I mean I vacuum it but the dust does not come out.
My vacumn is a Panasonic and very strong, but it does not have the ability to blow, just vacumn in.
Are the Levoit air purifiers loud?
There's four different speed settings for the fan. I usually leave mine on 2-3. Speed setting 4 I find a bit loud.
Loud on the higher setting but it clears the air superfast. At the lower speeds when air is ok and night/sleep mode it's very quiet
No mine is not at all
No , I love sleeping with mine on night mode. It’s a relaxing white noise
@@andreajuliannne Yes I have 2 now for different rooms. 👍
Can you use water ?
Its not recommended as it can damage the filter filbers
So can you do this instead of buying them? Bcuz they are expensive lol
You can do this for a while to extend the life sure. But I still replace mine every 6-8 months
I had a re light. I opened it up and found that I did not remove the plastic around the filter
Oh man! Good you caught that!
My levoit filter had mold on it do u know what causes that
I can't get the red light to go off -- I cleaned it as you showed, but that light is still red. Any tips?
Try pressing and holding down the filter light for three seconds.
I cleared mine from the app
what is the model of that vacuum cleaner?
Shop Vac
How do you clean the sensor ? 🤔
I usually just wipe it with a microfiber cloth
Why the small one collected more dust???
I think because I waited longer to clean it than the large one.
I can't remove mine. It's stuck!
Try pushing and turning counter clockwise
personally think you should be blowing the dirt out from the other side, not further into the filter.
That works well too
Thank you cuz ive gone through 2 in 2 months now buying a 3rd. Didnt know just assumed cuz we have 4 dogs and smokers the filters were dust fast. Ugggh could have saved money by cleaning. 🤦
Oh well! Live and learn!
That must have been pricey they can last up to 5 to 10 year if you look after them
@@janetlitster1046 how do u look after yours, I was thinking of soaking them
@@jenl1541 how is it im planning to soak it too

Yes!
@@JMGENTERPRISES , the beginning is endless…
Can i wash it with water?
I would not advise it.
@@JMGENTERPRISES why not?
@@abdullaharshad9297 Most Levoit filters are not washable. The water can damage the filter. Maybe they have new filters out that can be rinsed. Check the instructions your filter came with and see what it says.
@@JMGENTERPRISES Oh, understood, thanks for the help. :)
i spray mine with lysol
I'll have to try that!
I washed mine with water and let it dry out in the hot Sun.
Nice! Wish I had hot sun where I live. Lol
Why cant you clean it with water?
Certain filters you can but they don't advise it with these filters
Mold
@@ronaldborgos6952 good point 👉
Levoit air purifier does not work came with 1 year warranty and Levoit customer service only responds via email and response is 30 day refund only😝 anyone else had this happen?
I haven't heard of that.
Isn't it easier to rinse it off and let it air dry? Rather than vacume it?
I have heard some people do it this way. I have not personally tried it. I would think it would work well though!
@@JMGENTERPRISES I bought 2 filters for my Levoit core 300 hepa air purifiers for the price of one last night. I need the right kind of vaccume. Mine is a stand up with no parts. Could I use my husbands shop vac? Or i was thinking of getting a hand held vac. Like a dust buster and just keep it for my hepa filters. I noticed on top of the put together air purifier collects dust. Can i clesn that somehow. The gray part on top with the buttons and swirl pattern gets dusty. But i need to know how or if i can even clean it.
@@sm31156 I would use the Shop Vac! Way more power than a handheld vacuum. Plus you could suck or blow it out
That's what I do. Give it a good rinse.
Just make sure to let it dry for about 5 hours in the warm Sun to avoid mold growth.
With the weather we have been having in So Cal this summer, it drys rather quickly.
With HEPA filters, don’t do it; water will ruin the fiber arrangement and will destroy the filter’s capabilities.
Respectfully, not particularly good advice. With "True" Hepa filters you don't want to be able to clean them. They are not designed to be cleaned. Air pressure is their enemy. Just vacuum the pre-filter if equipped. Hope I've helped.
Thanks for the tips! I've read several articles saying it's okay to vacuum to extend the life though 🤔
@@JMGENTERPRISES Be my guest...lol!

@@JMGENTERPRISES
Thanks that was very helpful!!!
👍👏🙏
I was sleep deprived and on adhd medication and I saw my filter needed to be cleaned. Instead of looking up how to clean it, I literally ripped the fabric covering the filter off and got dust everywhere ☠️ moral of the story, do not try to clean your air purifier at 2 in the morning without a tutorial and minimal sleep.
Lesson learned! At least clean up was probably easy with a vacuum! 😄
This doesn't do anything for the finer particles trapped inside the filter. The video is the same as wiping down condens from a water bottle. 6-8 months of filtration is great value, just buy a replacement.
It des extend the life slightly but I hear what you're saying
DO NOT BLOW IN THE DIRECTION OF AIR FILTER !!!! BLOW OUT FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION !!!!
Good to know! Thanks 😊
Every ten days?! wow... clean them every 3 months so you dont have to buy new ones...
Exactly! I still try and replace mine every 4-5 months and cleaning only works for so long.
Removing air filters on your dining room table? hmmm
Hahaha. I never eat on it. Lol
Oh the horror lol
