      Superb! Can’t wait... how do we co ordinate it here? If you do a Facebook search on... a man called Anthony that was emergency repatriated to Canberra Australia last year. A Haemophiliac that was trapped in the UK due to the Infected Blood Scandal and Inquiry. ABC Australia national news. I will try to upload it to my channel here. 7th of November 2019. I’m a writer and musician but like to stay 🤫. I was fried when did that interview. Very embarrassing. Been in music biz 36? More and like lots of us. Privacy. In the home... that’s it... academic and creative writer... nom de plume and all that. Thank you my friend...this is worthwhile.

    Never was a group poised to be famous pop stars +never were a group visually and musically in sync with the zeitgist. True musical artists that ran not walked away from the traps of fame went right to true musical artist expression. They are like the greats before them and after:create a scene then leave said scene, plus Karn was a mofo on the instruments he played...they were almost too good for the masses.

      That was Sylvian"s hypothesis after Quiet life and the What I call *getting serious*with Polaroids really didn't get the publics, only the faithfful"*s attention with his dominence, control in fact over the other guys,, Rob Dean,, Imo, wayup there with Mick Ronson was sacked, he with those amazing riffs, listen to solos like Suburban Love, it blows you away on vynal, live he was incredible,, Tin Drum he'd have Nailed..
      People think Japan made zilch, they made nothing! apart from money from crap like Oil on Con Canvass, a lowsy 58 minute, 3 nights cut album, I was therefor two,, not a patch on the BBC album or Live at Drury Lane,
      Mick Karn rip was pretty much bankruptt when he passed away,, 2made £ from Japan, and if DS didn't want the fame, ya never should take the glamour or fortune,,, he has unfinished work he owes Robert Fripp,, so I see your opinion, but it's not Kraftwerk or Yellow Magic Orchestra ya talking about,,, if you want the truth about the day 1 to the end
      Visit the finest unnoficial Japan website, built and maintained by who I consider knew them more than they did,,, Mr Paul Rymer

      You can say that again. “Quiet Life” only reached 19 in the U.K. charts. A record buying public that places Shakin’ Stevens, Bad Manners & the Birdie Song above something like that doesn’t deserve to have it. The phrase “casting pearls before swine” never seemed so apt.

    Because Japan split up after producing their best and most authentic work Tin Drum, their influence is heard in other bands who came after them ... who then got credit for Japan’s innovation.
    It is what it is. David went on to become one of the greatest pop/experimental/art oriented musicians Britain has produced (was there anyone else apart from Bowie/Eno?)
    Consequence? He is vastly underrated/neglected but those who know the depth and breadth of his work value it immensely. Where is the South Bank Show special/retrospective on David Sylvian? Don’t leave it till he’s gone from Earth 🌍

    • @alessandroguarrera2203
      @alessandroguarrera2203 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Something tells me he'd rather be underrated/neglected; read a few interviews, listen to the way he sings and speaks, he's clearly quite shy. Fame isn't for everyone, and frankly, that's not a bad thing. Just to be able to live off one's art is more success than most artists can speak of throughout human history.

    • @EnnuiOn
      @EnnuiOn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@alessandroguarrera2203 Exactly. Even though its quite sad that he's so underrated, from his interviews its clear that he literally does not want fame and recognition. He genuinely wants to make music that he loves and find meaning in, and hopes others can too. He has said many times that even though his time with Japan has been instrumental in providing him a background for his solo ventures, his work with them was not as real and important as what he has produced in his solo career (I love Japan and its so sad that they broke up at the peak of their career, but I also greatly appreciate David's work as a solo artist)
      The man is such a free soul artistically and that is so admirable about him

      It would be fantastic if someone wrote and got made a proper movie about them and did such a great job that the movie was a big hit and people would start to discover them. There's never been a rock and pop band story this unique, amazing and with such a pinnacle of achievement in rock and pop music...merging into art.
      They set out to be like Bowie and Ferry and Eno and in many ways topped them. Copied their idols a bit here and there until they actually became original. Astounding accomplisments.

      I believe Nick Rhodes and John Taylor were always very open about the Japan influence on their music and their recollection of their concerts. Taylor cited Quiet Life as his favourite Japan album, admitting that's not in line with the critical reception of the usual suspects Tin Drum and Polaroids. Karn made a big impression on him but his playing style is influenced by Bernard Edwards (Chic)

      +Andres Etchenique the guys of Duran asked Sylvian to produce their first album , he replied with NO !! So they looked for another , they are big fans of Japan and Sylvian , all of a sudden there were 5 Sylvian look a likes in one band called Duran Duran but the music was nothing like Japan and far too commercial mainstream pop and were not the only ones all of a sudden many new bands in the UK and Australia tried to sound like Japan/Sylvian what was given the name '' new romantics '' very brave of David Sylvian to split up Japan he could have been as rich like David Bowie but instead he chose for becoming a better composer/writer/singer outside the mainstream pop culture , After 40+ years he has still a big amount of fans and followers with a timeless back catalogue and still producing new albums unlike bands like Duran Duran , Icehouse , Spandau and others..... :)
