For your future information, the bridge you passed over when departing Newcastle is called the King Edward Bridge. The Tyne Bridge is the one to the trains left hand side (when travelling south) and looks like Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bridge you referred to as a motorway bridge is actually the Redheugh Bridge and carried the A189 road from the city towards the A184 and ultimately to the A1. The girder bridge to the left of your train was the Cleveland Bridge and carries the Tyne & Wear Metro. Further to the left and beyond the Cleveland Bridge is the High Level Bridge (upper deck rail, lower deck road), the Swing Bridge, and then the Tyne Bridge. The Millennium Bridge is beyond the Tyne Bridge.

Use a GPS speedometer app on your phone to see how fast your going. Always good to see it say 130mph+ when your on a Virgin Train.

The Tweedbank to Edinburgh route is well worth videoing. It's locally nick-named 'The Oil Express' due to people using it to visit the Edinburgh massage parlours.Only happy smiling faces aboard 'The Oil Express' with a big thank you to the S.N.P. for bringing the new line into being.

I was thinking of doing this Journey next year. I recently did an around ECML and WCML Journey a few months ago from Newcastle to Edinburgh then on to Glasgow Queen's street then went to Glasgow Central then went down the WCML to London Euston then walked down to Kings Cross then back up the ECML to Newcastle.

What happened to York? Did it do the avoiding line or did you go through the station?

Morgan Roberts I understand that, but that 05:40 from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross is THEE crack express of the day! The cheapest advance fare is well over £100 first class!

love five First class on Virgin Trains leaves a hell of a lot to be desired these days, especially considering how much you have to fork out for it! In the restaurant car there should be embroidered table cloths, starched napkins, Virgin branded crockery, glassware and cutlery, and perhaps a small bouquet of flowers. The seating is poor too. It may look pleasing to eye, but the leather is shiny and slippery, and it make me sweat! The felt/material of standard class is much better. Go back to 2000 and see how GNER did things.

love five Yes, I think they did. This train (1E01) was almost an hour late in KGX today! What the hell happened I don't know! 😡
