  • In this episode we show the possibilities of running use trans (ATF) fluid in your diesel pick up as an alternate fuel source. What is going on family, welcome back. I couldn't pass this up & had to show you all. So it all started with this one guy I know down from the watermelon patch, who has the ability to run used ATF in his old 7.3 DI from circa 1997. Check this video out and see what.....he really even had to do to run this. Wanna try it in your 6.7 diesel, book your next fuel system appointment with me today!!! Thanks for watching. I swapped a 12 valve into my Chevy over the winter, and now all the used transmission oil from flushes at the shop I work at goes right into my fuel tank.
I like ATF over waste motor oil, seems like the ATF doesn't contain all the sludge and crap you have to filter out with a centrifuge. But I still throw a couple gallons of waste oil in there from time to time. Runs great.

I have an old 2003 7.3, that last of the simpler diesels. I've run new atf, motor oil, jet fuel, all kinds of shit.
The key is using a centrifuge to get contamination out of the used oil. I won't put used "fuels" in my truck, but I always have half empty jugs of "fuel" in the shop, and when I get tired of it taking up space, I pour it in, and run it. Never any problems, still on stock factory injectors @ 288k+ miles. Cold starts like new, even in negative temps.
I believe the additional lubrication has added life to the fuel side, as most I know have had to do injectors by this milage. I plan to go to 300k, then switch to 238/100's, which the truck is already built for. Should net around 450hp, 1000 ft lbs of torque when turned up all the way. Transmission was by far the most expensive part of the upgrades to support that power level. Torque converter alone was $1300.
When the shit hits the fan, it's good to know that all the other unusable vehicles stranded on the road equals fuel for those of us with these ultra reliable dinosaurs.
I love my old 7.3. even after getting out of new trucks I work on.

@@codyphillips48 I absolutely believe you, just remember... The fuel side plunger and the walls of the fuel side of the injector are taking a beating with any contamination. Best to use a centrifuge to remove as much as possible for longevity.
I've run probably hundreds of gallons of various fuels, even hydraulic oil. It all seems to burn the same, but smells different. I just won't put used "fuel" in. I personally don't have a centrifuge, or I would. I recycle a LOT of free fuel. Kinda of a waste really! Should be burning it!

My 97 has over 500 k also. Where would you be able to get that much ATF used bulk to make it practical to use ? By the way that is a lot of fuel pressure 70 psi at idle. I put a fuel bowl delete kit on mine which still keeps the mechanic fuel pump in the valley. It makes about 45 psi at idle. I taped a fuel pressure gauge to the windshield on my truck to see what pressure it would make under load. My truck is a 5 speed also . I ran it up the mountain here above town 7 % grade to 11000 ft above sea level. As long you keep the rpms up over 2500 under load that mechanical fuel pump would make 75-80 psi .
Point is for you OBS guys is that it might not be worth the effort to change it out to an electric pump as long as you can keep the rpms up under load. My truck has the baby swamp single shot injectors like the truck above. Mine has a few other upgrades nothing crazy. It made 386 HP at the rear wheel on a dyno . It’s a daily driver.

I'm running the factory fuel pressure regulator kit from Mark F. It was definitely worth swapping to e fuel. The just for the idle quality it's worth it. Not to mention easier to swap filters and prime the system. Plus the only part I paid for was the fuel bowl delete.

I got mine from work. I did trans flushes daily and I'd get flushes from other techs. It was 100% free so it was definitely the cheapest option for me. I didn't pay for fuel for 5 years. Put over a 100k on the truck that way.

Yes, you're not paying taxes on it. So even though it's not "off road diesel" they would still fine you. But... they have to catch you using it... I've read some articles but don't see any saying it's illegal. Just depends on who checks your tank and how they interpret what you're running.
