    THIS STORY:
In November 1945, three American Army officers stationed in Germany pulled off a dramatic jewel heist when they stole the Hesse Crown Jewels that were concealed in a German castle occupied by US troops.
    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

    Mr. Ron,
Would you look into the story of a lovely hometown young man, who in my opinion, died a hero.
His name, Paul Edwin Carey. He was the kindest soul.
Whenever I see a military plane, as the one you showed on that headstone, I think of him. You see, he was flying a plane with military officials on board.
Something went wrong, and Paul managed to guide the plane away from a populated area and crash-
    landed it in a clearing.
Not so long before that, I had received a wedding invitation from Paul. When I learned of this tragedy, all I could do was think of his beautiful wife and young children.
That has been so many years ago, and I still think of him when I hear about/see a military plane.
Paul was raised by amazing parents and you were blessed to know him.
His last act in this life was to steer that plane towards a clearing to avoid killing who knows how many people on the ground. 😢

Declassified information on him says the plane was hit and disabled during a bombing mission over Osaka Japan. The plane was still able to fly, they attempted to land on Iwo Jima but the plane exploded about 60 miles away. Only one person survived, he was the person who gave the classified report.

That was an intriguing story..the looting and thievery of the war was another horror we must never be allowed to be forgotten..it seems like this woman is being purposely hidden from being found..even in death..the family descendants may know why..when you panned out the camera view, it seemed like a rectangular outline was faintly showing in the grass growth. someone knows! Someday a gem or two could show up at an Antiques Roadshow lol.Great story and scenery.

      @bettyir4302 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Glad I wasn't the only one to see a rectangular outline in the grass. Why it would have been dug up is anyone's guess. There is money in selling the metal, possibly brass, on it but doubt a reputable scrap dealer would risk buying a grave marker.

The road not taken...if they had turned in all the jewels intact would someone else higher up have kept them? 🤔 That was a beautiful tombstone for Peter Koury. It's always so sad to see the graves of military men who lost their lives in combat. The very nice photo made me wonder what his life would have been like and what would he have accomplished had he lived.

Ron's cemetery adventures: trains, wildlife, sprinklers, and more. LOL. Always an adventure no matter where you go. This was a great story, but my feeling is at the heart of everything it was theft. Spoils of war, or not, things were taken that weren't theirs. As far as where the rest of the things are, I'm sure they are "hidden" among family, who may or may not know what they've got. Thank you, Ron, for this story. I hope someone can find where her grave is.

What a fascinating story!!! On so many levels . Also think it's spread out through the family. Seems like if Eisenhour said don't do it - they shouldn't have started "Splitting Hairs" to make it OK. Looking at it that way it makes them all kind of a disgrace. Maybe that's why the exact location has become "lost" over the years? Not sure I would have left a flower...

I swear I saw the same scene in a cartoon. Its a fabulous book. I'm so glad I read it. There's nothing like playing in the sprinklers! Boo on Edward! A movie needs made about this story. Where ever those jewels are, they may never be found.
Makes you wonder though if some of the later decendants of the families that had those jewels, if they had sold them, pawned them, or just kept passing them down to younger descendants of their family. It would be intriguing to somehow find out.🤔 A person would spend a lifetime just looking for them though.
Keep yourself safe out there Ron.🙂💟

Hard to say what has happened to the jewelry they got out of there. Since they destroyed it before mailing it out, it quite possibly be other jewelry now. Like you said will never be found. Makes me wonder, with eyebrows raised, some of the inheritance items on the Antique Roadshow. Some of the items they’ve shown came from grandmothers, Aunts….etc. gorgeous pieces that apparently were purchased or had made during that time frame. But are they relatives of these people? Maybe. Wouldn’t that be interesting??!! What a story that would make!! Were they justified in taking it? I’m on the fence with that as you are. Everyone took something home from the war. If it possibly belonged to the Nazis, justification would be (possibly) sticking it to a horrible man for injustices inflicted upon the people. Who really knows? No one still alive I’ll bet. Great story Ron!! This one makes you think a bit. Take care!! ❤️❤️

Our higher-ups drank the wine, lived like the richest of the rich in that castle, and enjoyed the spoils of war while their underlings were being shot and killed for them. Unfortunately, war is greed, plain, and simple.

Herman Gohering was notorious for looting art museums to enhance his collection. If memory serves correct, there are still pieces that were never found. His daughter actually had the nerve to sue the German government in an attempt to keep some stolen art that was presented to her on her birthday as a child. She lost.

I grew up in Benton Harbor/St Joseph Mi. There was a huge colony that some called a cult. It was called The House of David City of David. It has a amazing history! My dad and granddad would speak for hours just on the baseball team. They were world famous.
The man who I believe is the leading authority on it is Chris Siriano. I believe he lives in Benton Harbor and as I recall he’s been trying for years to rehabilitate the City of David. The story of this place is so crazy it doesn’t seem real!😂

I’m not a fan of some people starving and other accumulate unbelievable wealth…I wonder how they did it…usually not with honest work…so my theory here is…that wealthy family may “steal” or “used” people to accumulate those treasures …one of a proverb is:
“stealing from a thief is not a crime”…😜
    I’m not a jewellery person…however I’m jealous of those fine wines!😂

    What a great story, Ron❣️
I have to say, in my opinion, it is all wrong, from the Germans, English & Americans. The horrible atrocities that were done to the Jewish people alone. I am of German heritage & I have also been ashamed of that time in history.
To me, it is a clear statement of what horrible things humans do to one another.

Ron, I swear if it isn’t a lawnmower, airplane, loud car or sprinkler you bring action to a cemetery! 😊I think the soldiers drinking the wine wasn’t a big deal. Taking the jewels I feel was stealing from the family. My own opinion. I wish I knew where the jewels are in Wisconsin. That could make for a great scavenger hunt this summer. 😊

Ron, I couldn't help but laugh throughout this sto 2:03 2:04 ry as I watched your complicated and ever changing path through this video! You did very well at the task of telling this wartime story while dodging a barrage of sprinklers ! As for the theft of all these gems, I do think it was wrong and suspect alot of the motivation was simply greed. I'm sure they weren't the only ones that did this type of thing during wartime. The artist in me felt sad, I tried to imagine what type of settings these jewels were in, the intricacy of such work had to be breathtaking. Oh well, its fun to just imagine what everything looked like.
