  • Sep 2020 Review of my new exhaust inserts.
    They take some tuning to get them right, but they do work.
    I prefer the sound of the open pipes, but I like the peppy response of having the Torque inserts installed.

    Thank you for sharing your experience details. And, congratulations on your really good engine temperatures!
    At 3:05 you mention the specific insert that you now have, 158W. I have to bet that, those numbers and letter,
    represent 1 and 5/8 inch WIDTH.

    • @jeffmclowry
      @jeffmclowry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's 1 5/8" (circle) insert.
      Honestly, I like the sound and the performance of the baffles in my Vance and Hines.
      But, each to his own.

    Thanks for the comments! As stated in the video, I tried turning the inserts to various angles until I found what worked. The problem was, I could never find a setting that gave me good bottom end And good acceleration performance. I got one or the other. Yes, I could buy smaller inserts or grind these down. But honestly I was like, fuck these things! If they were as cool as they are advertised to be, it wouldn't do all this horse shit to make them work right. They do work, but so do the muffler inserts. In fact, the mufflers perform Way better, on my bike.
    Yes, I have tuned my bike. Its jetted, I have anti reversion cones at head connections. Performance ignition etc... Bottom line, the inserts are sitting in the box with the piece shit Lectron carb I wasted $800 on. If you guys want to try these inserts, try them out. But I'm telling you, my Vance and Hines pipes perform AND sound Way better than these bullshit inserts. Thanks!

    Made them myself with two bolts,two large 1 1/2” washers slightly bended all welded together as a “lollipop” as you say. Mounted them between 1 and 2 inches into the pipes, and yes…they definitely improves in the low to midrange torque, when exceeding 4-4500rpms I couldn’t tell a difference. Costed me nothing since I had the “materials” lying around 😂👌🏻

    When you first installed them and you say it was running well at lower RPMs but then it would fall on its face when you tried to accelerate etc., did you read your plugs/try to figure out how your air/fuel mixture was, and the I'm asking is I'm thinking maybe with that breathing change on the exhaust and you possibly needed to reject that carburetor, when you make a major change like that, it likely will affect your intake air/fuel mixture.

    Looks like somebody hacked your account because of the 2 totally opposing views of the modification.. also, Did you think about pulling them out and grinding them to a smaller size? I don't think you mentioned the sound changes(?) or if any.

  • @roadking2054

    I've been running thunder torque and search for years and put them on several bikes. And the low end torque is way better. And I don't know what you're doing wrong.

  • @gpcbr1000

    They seem easy enough to remove so, maybe take them out and grind them down from the size of 50 Cent pieces to maybe the size of a quarter or a nickel?

    • @jeffmclowry
      @jeffmclowry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes of course, you're correct on that. But, a basic understanding of the necessity of a certain amount of back pressure in the exhaust shows it to be a positive point.
      Believe me, I spent most of my life thinking zero back pressure was the ultimate goal. I was wrong and I have proven it to myself repeatedly. The fact that these inserts didn't work out for me in this instance just shows that I didn't workout the details to Tailor them to my application.
      Why ddb't I work out the details? Because it's not important enough for me to spend that much time in the endeavor.
      It's less bullshit to just trust the aftermarket exhaust and tune the carburetor to work well with it.

    The w158 was the part # for 2” -2 1/2” pipes. You got the wrong size.

    • @jeffmclowry
      @jeffmclowry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to the DK Performance website, where I purchased the inserts, the 158's FIT 2" diameter & larger Slip-ons (other sizes available)
      the 118's may well be a better choice. But truthfully, they can stick their inserts in their ass's. Complete waste of time as far as I am concerned.

      @@jeffmclowry Sir, I've become confused regarding whether you endorse this product or not,
      and I respectfully ask for your clarification. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
      (1) In your comment above to Jeremy Haynes you say,
      "But truthfully, they can stick their inserts in their ass's. Complete waste of time as far as I am concerned."
      (2) In the video at 6:18 ("It works pretty damn good.") here are your words audibly:

      (3) In your original description that you typed up when you posted this video you included,
      "They take some tuning to get them right, but they do work." and you include this link to the product:

      Certainly a valid comment. But... No matter what, you're not going to hear what the bike sounds like over the internet.

      I made some lollipops for my 93 Heritage about 1 5/8” from eye hooks and flat washers. As DK customs recommendation for 2 1/2” pipes. I also removed the baffles and it seems to have woke it up. It is louder but not obnoxious. I like it!

      I'm sorry I don't quite understand what you mean by parallel? Is that the standard recommended direction with it being flat in the center as they recommend? I just got 118 for my 2 1/4 inch mufflers and installing them in a few days and I wanna get it right. How should I position them for best results?

      @@CantTreadOnMe you put them at 45° parallel would be Sideways. We only see the edge in the other way, would be where you see the whole thing and blocks the majority of the hole
