Yes, Rod playing is so fluid, not mechanical but fluid and musical. Steve morse can not replace Rod. Something magical happens in the music when Steve records with Rod.
I had a photo with Rod Morgenstein and my son in NYC. he rode the Amtrak down from Boston and I noticed he was reading a modern drummer magazine on the train......."You play drums?" I asked. he said "yea" What kind I asked? "Premiers".......You play in a band?...."Yea, and I teach at Berkley".....My ears perk up.....OK, I give up, what bands you play with......."Winger, Dixie Dreggs"...Wait, Your Rod Moregenstein?.......He raises his hand "Present". LOL. What a great guy, short in stature, but what a cool dude, he told us about rehearsing next door to Yngwie in Miami. It was a thrill to meet him. Alas, I no longer have that photo. 25 mins · Edited · Like
They talked about a verison of Tarkus on CD with Jordan Rudress that was incredible. I first discovered Ron Morganstein on a CD called IF by the Dixie Dregs by accident. I was getting a new stereo put in my car when the mechanic was playing it. I was like " What is that it sounds cool." I then went out and bought it shortly after. I'm a drummer but as far as keyboardist go I feel the Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman and Jordan Rudress are the most amazing musicians with their talent and creativity.
This is what I like about musicians and music in general. Most good musicians are very nice and interested in other musicians and don't talk any shit like people do in sports and stuff. It's very respectful.

Morgenstein is so humble and emotive. It's almost like he doesn't realize how great he is in his own right. :-)
