    This 100% reclaimed bench is a piece made for Carolina Shoe who is planning on using this for all sorts of different display purposes. They tell me this bench is going to be more well traveled then me. So this was constructed from a total of about 8 pallets (Red Oak, White Oak, Pine, Poplar, Aspen, Mahogany, Cherry, and Maple) along with some threaded rod thru bolts which were abandoned in a dumpster when the fire protection was being renovated at a local retail store. The pallet slats were left rough on the underside, front, and back to add a really cool texture and also some history to the piece. The threaded rod is mostly aesthetic, but it'll also add some structure to the piece. Hand engraved "Carolina" and "Built For Work", finished with 6 coats of lacquer.

      Harbor Freight sells one kinda like that for 20$ and they run like crazy. I have 3 of them and keep my most common bits in them and just switch routers. i also have several bigboy routers just dont like to bust them out unless im burning off alot of mill work

Just some people don't have that talent. Have you ever tried finding some heavy duty pallets? I found some really good industrial pallets used to ship airplane parts. The frames are 4x4s and the slats are 2x4s. They're difficult to break down without a reciprocating saw, but we'll worth it. A lot of the wood turned out to be maple.

    great build. is the threaded rod totally nesessary?

    • @NOLAMarathon2010
      @NOLAMarathon2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't know the answer to that question, but I'll just speculate. If he didn't have the threaded rod, I don't think the bench would undergo a failure. I do see the possibility, however, of a few of the seat boards or side boards opening up just a tad, due to internal stresses. You saw how during glue-up some of the boards were still not flat even after having gone through the planer. So, the threaded rods were probably provided to prevent that -- open spaces between adjacent boards -- more than to prevent a failure.

    • @JackmanWorks
      @JackmanWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely not. Check out my workbench build if you haven't yet, very similar process and I haven't had a single seam pop on me yet and I beat on the thing haha. That was really just for looks.

    • @CodyYankey
      @CodyYankey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Jackman Works I thought you would have just cut them (threaded rod) to a few inches and just epoxy them in. Risky drilling so far without a drill press. Even with a drill press the job would be kinda scary. lol
      Nice score on the threaded rod as well. That stuff is expensive!

    • @keitho3133
      @keitho3133 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Threaded rod is actually pretty cheap for 3/8"... www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/national-hardware-4000bc-3-8-in-x-16-x-36-in-threaded-rod-zinc?cm_vc=-10005 . It's more at the home centers but probably still not that bad (a lot cheaper than bolts, which tractor supply is also good for if you have one near).

    I usually don't enjoy watching people being "funny" while woodworking but I subscribed the first 5mins of another one of your videos. Maybe because I watch these videos after a couple tokes but they make me laugh and they're dope ideas

    I've never been a fan of pallet wood furniture but you just caused me to appreciate it a little more. Nice work my friend.

    very nice touch curving the seat,I'll have to try something like this for around the fire pit...for those rare times I actually sit lol.
    approximately how long did it take to router the curve?

    You should invest in a pneumatic nail punch. It will save hours of work. I bought one online from Home Depot for @ $50.00.

    I enjoyed the hell out of this. Thanks so much for taking the time to set up each video shot, which probably increases the amount of time it takes to do the project by half or more (not to mention the video editing time). But the quality video really helps to tell the story of this build.

      Thanks so much Tom! It definitely takes a huge chunk of time, but as long as people keep enjoying them I'll keep making them.

    I bought a second hand thicknesser the other week and your videos are pure inspiration for reclaiming some pallets and making some furniture n stuff. Thanks!
    Love the dead pan nonchalant humour and the content - keep it up mate.

    Love your videos but you should lower the music volume... it's way too loud. Takes the focus away from what you are building because it's hard to hear you using the tools/cutting wood

    I love this channel. Jackman Works, keep up the terrific work. I love the projects, the attention to detail as to how you are making them, the unobtrusive bits of humor, and the unique music. You're always motivating me to get in the garage and make something.
