Good topic. I think I learn this naturally from riding a bike too, and maybe playing driving videogames, except you really learn how a car engine brakes by actually driving.
Any tips or videos for beginners on how to apply the right amount of pressure to the accelerator before moving off? I can't seem to hit between 10k - 20k - I always go just above or below!
That’s a tricky question, as each car will need a different amount of pressure on the accelerator to get the correct engine speed. We’d practice this in neutral before actually pulling away, so we can understand how sensitive the pedal is - and hopefully it should get easier with practice. Good luck!
Advance Driving School hi have you uploaded that video? few other people are asking for that too. ok and whenever you do will you please link down that below? thanks
+Sidra Naz We plan to make a video about driving in busy traffic, but since we are full time driving instructors we can only make 2 videos every month. It's on our list👍🏼
Hey man, i was wondering if you could make a vid on turning right from minor to major in busy traffic. I can't for the life of me get it right. IE judging the speed of traffic, finding the perfect gap and when to go and when not to. I have heard of the "if it's safe to walk across then it's safe to drive across" method but still no hope. this is the one thing stopping me from passing my test.
+Jay We will be doing videos about junctions and busy traffic fairly soon, but in the mean time just keep practicing. Hopefully your instructor will show you what to look out for when deciding when to go!
Good advice. Thanks. 🙏🙏 The going gets real tough on busy lanes, bylanes and even highways in India. There would be cycles, cycle vans, cows and people on highways also. These are really frustrating for a learner. 🙏🙏
+Shugofa Hamdard You must have been reading our minds! Since the driving test is changing in the UK this December, with new manoeuvres (among other changes) we are re-filming all of the parking manoeuvres, including reference points! Stay tuned 👍🏼
Been wondering, will this techniques cause any side effects such engine damage duet power up and down or piston wear and tears? I've been using this technique, just worried if it will cause any damage to the accelerators.
Driving smoothly like this will if anything reduce wear to your engine and clutch. It’s sudden acceleration and braking that will wear parts faster, so try to avoid doing that.
I love your videos , i show them to my girlfriend to learn and they are very useful. But i dont think that this are expert skills cause they are useful to every driver. Also from the position of your foot to the brake pedal, i think that if it was not an instructional video for less expert drivers you would have use heel-toe also
We agree that these skills would be useful to every driver - but also expect that they won't be perfected until after a driver has passed their driving test and gained more experience on the roads. Many drivers just drive from A to B and aren't interested in improving their driving skills with extra training or using TH-cam, so they would probably never consider skills like this. Perhaps 'Driving skills for someone who cares about their driving' would be a better playlist title, but its not very catchy! Thanks for your comment.
Acceleration sense is something you improve through all your driving experience and there is room for improvement for every driver, but the basics are necessary. I've seen a lot ,dangerously a lot, of drivers mostly this a to b or weekend drivers braking for example in the middle of a corner and accelerate with no consistency and logic. I know that in my country a lot of drivers never had a lesson of controlling a car in a curvy b road or at the highway, so they dont have a standard good behaviour for start to improve. I wish that this will change later and even i wish sometime in the future lessons of safe driving will be a must to take a license. i think this lack of knowledge is one reason for death rates rising on the roads during vacation time etc. Parking and city driving lessons are good for saving some bumpers but car control is necessary for saving some lives
So i just turned 17 and have driven with my dad a bit. I didn't realise not everyone does this it seemed obvious to me and I've only really been out twice
Yes. However normal cars with an automatic gearbox will freewheel or coast when you release the accelerator so it takes much longer to decelerate. In contrast, hybrid or fully electric cars will regenerate power into their battery when the accelerator is not pressed, which will slow the car much more quickly. In either case, it is still possible to slow the car purely by lifting off the accelerator pedal.
+Nikhil thakur If you mean that your tyres squeal when cornering - they're starting to slide, which shows you're driving too fast! Or if you hear the tyres chirp as you let up the clutch, then that means you're down changing too early - just slow down more before the gear change and it will be smoother.
This only applies if there is nobody behind you at all, otherwise decelerating without signalling your change in speed by braking is dangerous and contrary to the Highway Code.
That’s incorrect, as since the car will decelerate very gently it will never surprise following traffic and cause any danger. Acceleration Sense is recommended by many advanced driving organisations and the Police ‘roadcraft’ system so it definitely does not contravene anything in the Highway Code.
Huge thank you to Advance Driving School for all the advise, I passed my test yesterday (1st time) - videos were a huge help!
+Jardell Miller 🎉Well done!!!🎉

drive in traffice please so that we could understand the acceleration sense better. new learner.
+Sidra Naz We plan to make a video about driving in heavy city traffic soon - we'll be sure to cover Acceleration Sense 👍🏼

Ok no problem i understand thank you
but here is possible.....
Fab video was doing this today with my instructor..
Very Informative Video.. Will try this out..
Great video as always :)

very helpful thank you
could you please make vedios for changing lines and parking information
I mean parking with good reference

I find myself watching more of the videos after passing my test
Thanks!
Very good video ! Please help us with progression / junctions - gear
+kahkashan khan Junctions are on our list of videos to be made - stay tuned!
Advance Driving School so is my concern too.
So i just turned 17 and have driven with my dad a bit. I didn't realise not everyone does this it seemed obvious to me and I've only really been out twice
same! my dad said i had amazing car control but i just thought i was doing it normally i don't see what people find hard
how to accelerate quickly from a stop please answer
+Nikhil thakur Try using plenty of engine revs and slip the clutch a little, similar to a hill start.
Slam the gas and dump the clutch
Floor it and hold on
What’s the background music here?
We always list the music used in the video description. 👍🏼
Would this work in a automatic ?
Yes. However normal cars with an automatic gearbox will freewheel or coast when you release the accelerator so it takes much longer to decelerate. In either case, it is still possible to slow the car purely by lifting off the accelerator pedal.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool does this save fuel in a automatic car ?
Yes - any time we are moving without pressing the accelerator is driving for free!
and when I change into second gear before turn I usually get bad voice from tyres
+Nikhil thakur If you mean that your tyres squeal when cornering - they're starting to slide, which shows you're driving too fast! Or if you hear the tyres chirp as you let up the clutch, then that means you're down changing too early - just slow down more before the gear change and it will be smoother.
thank you
last time just one serious mistake
most probably I shift earlier
I get bored from driving test I failed 3 times
Safa Mohamed don't give up
its 2020 - have you got through the test?

I will be 18 in 2022 (2017+5)
+roblox card What happens when you're 18?
Advance Driving School lol i think he might could drive and get license
I might drive a car
+roblox card Cool! We can start at 17 here in the UK 😃
