I own two Matty wands and the cross-the-streams function is just awesome fun. Wands go really crazy. And as you Darren I still think the Matty wand is in aspects better than the Hasbro wand. The bargraph, the clippard size and shape as well as the barrel diameter are much better. And I love the electronics. Switch the power on and try to activate, intensify or extend the barrel...really thoughtful.
That's cool!!! Such a good idea to add that, Hasbro should have ripped that idea off! Since it's been so long since I'd played with a Matty wand, I was genuinely surprised how much better some of the stuff is like the lights. Looking forward to comparing the traps when the new one is out. Love my Matty trap, that will be hard to beat!
I've got both of these. Great review of 2 great toys. I also have the mattel ecto goggles, pke meter and vibrating ghost trap. It's 9 below zero here in the chicago burbs. Hope its warmer where you're at.
Thanks mate :) cool that you have them all. Did you order the new HasLab (cant remember if you'd said previously. Hopefully I can get an unmodded Mayty trap before the new HasLab arrivea so i can give it a fair comparison. It's cold here but not that cold. Sounds like you need one of the new red coats from Frozen Empire ha ha.
Hi Darren, what ecto 1 license plate would you recommend I pick up, I intend to put it on my collection room door so I have the back to the future plate my he man plaque then an ecto 1 plate below that
If you're not fussy about it being officially licensed the one from Celebroty Machines is good. I got that to get signed by Dan and Ernie. My favourite is actually an official one made by Dr Collector because I love the packaging it came in, so I wouldn't remove it from that. I think the only other official ones are ones that were made by Diamond Select I think about 15ish years ago and one by Eaglemoss as part of the Build an Ecto collection. I'm probably forgetting one. There are loads of very cheap ones on ebay nowadays. I assume they won't be the best quality.
One area where the Matty wand really loses points, for me, is the trigger box. Not having a separate trigger box on the side, with the lever in between, but rather molded to the handle as one piece, with the lever poking out through a slot. It just doesn't work for me, aesthetically, and it's definitely the biggest inaccuracy. And a smaller structural nitpick, but I've also never been able to figure out those two screws they molded into the left side of the main body, by the DANGER label. They don't match any screen used wand I've ever seen, and it seems like an odd thing to add. Especially when they left off screws that are seen on screen used wands, like the one that should be right below the DANGER label, in between the discs.
What did you do to modify your wand. I was hoping to put in an accurate bargraph but don't know if it can be done. Any pointers would be appreciated if possible. Kind regards David
@@sullyboy1974 it was really only painting with what I did. Filled the screw holes, then painted and weathered it all. Did change anything like the bargraph so can't say how easy it would be. I'm sure there was an old post ok gbfans of someone opening one up and taking it apart
I have this. I’ve modded it alittle bit. I don’t know if it’s an issue with the motor or what but it seems to have a problem extending the tip or bringing it back in but other than that, I love this wand. I love the sounds on it.
Oh, that's a shame about the motor. I seem to remember some posts on gbfans back in the day about issues with that part, not sure if anyone found a fix. My original one that I sold had an issue with the light on the barrel, would sometimes only be a pale blue colour. I was surprised how much brighter the lights are over the Hasbro wand.
I still like this one better - Hasbro went WAY too long with their barrel tip. It almost looks comical - I still have my Matty version and love it. Hasbro may have improved the "real feel" whereas the Matty is a bit plastic-y, but I still think they really nailed the sounds, lights and though I've never gotten to try it, the cross the streams ability with the upper tip sensors.
I was surprised how much brighter the lights are on the Matty wand. Sadly I never got to try the Cross the stream method. Maybe one day, a friend of mine just got a broken one on ebay very cheap, if he fixes it can maybe can give it a try.
Always wanted this and the trap because I wasn't collecting when they were new. Luckily I was collecting when the haslab pack was announced. I now have the afterlife wand and pack. Can't wait for Trap/pke next year. A shop by me has the Matty wand for $700 and they have the Haslab pack for $800. It's crazy how there is only a $100 difference between the two. Luckily I just got the 84 wand from Hasbro. If the matty stuff ever drops in price I might then try to scoop one. I also had a hose issue with my pack. Hasbro sent me a replacement and I haven't had a single issue since. They also sent me a replacement V-hook for my Spengler wand. I have a silver tipped wand and the Vhook wasnt as secure as the replacement i got.
The actual sold prices have dropped massively on all the Matty stuff, but a lot of sellers are still trying to get the higher prices. I haven't seen a Matty wand sell for any where close to 700 for a long time now. Good news you got in on the pack. A lot of people started after and missed out. Really looking forward to the two in the box. I will get an 84 Hasbro wand at some point :) I also got a replacement hose for the haslab, but I don't use it out so I've kept that in the packaging for now. As I get older and my back gets weaker I feel like switching to the haslab for events 😅
@DXChrisCross @@TheMagicGhostbuster It's true, the "secret" animations of the goggles are activated by firing the wand too. It's awesome seeing a proton stream synched to your wand firing.
@@demolitionman7510 that's cool. I should have tried that in my Ecto Goggles video. I'm not sure if I just never knew it or if I did back in the day and forgot. Hard to say with my memory!

Apparently, the sensor also works with the Ecto goggles. I've heard when you fire the wand while wearing the goggles, you'll see the proton stream.
The PKE meter sets of the proton stream. I try in in my Ecto Goggles video. Not sure if this does too, never heard that it does but would make sense.
