This water gilding thing looks tricky on a piece like that. Just showing off your skills now, I would have made such a mess of that 🤣 Chocolate still there then! Well done you 👏
I think they might have to be quite small or they'd bend your branches, unless you sat them on branches, close to the trunk. I agree though, and they are particularly lovely in the two-tone leaf. 🌲
What a delight this series is turning into! Just catching up in January and there are some wonderful ideas and techniques you're sharing with us here, Ruth. Thank you.
Glad you're enjoying them. Just been thinking if I ever do it again I should start now and not the end of November 😮 it was lovely to make all of them but all the video editing got to me. So having a bit of a break from TH-cam at the moment.
@@RuthTappinGilder I quite understand. Setting yourself such an intense schedule at the end of the year without any video editing support can be exhausting. I think having several videos 'in the bag' is always a good idea - especially for a series where you feel a pressure to keep up the pace. Sometimes you really just need to jump off the roundabout and stand still for a bit.
Hi Ruth! I bought this mirror and from watching your videos, I've got a problem with this one. It has bole in some places, just unknown paint in some and bole, possibly 3 layers from scratching off. How do I go about removing the bole without having to scrape it all off? I'll try sending pictures but not sure if I can on your videos?!
😬 sorry, paint stripper won't remove bole. It's eather sand it off or methylated spirits and wire wood. I think I did that in the convex restoration video th-cam.com/video/GF62gliOKsU/w-d-xo.html
Lovely cherub though I find them creepy. Big plus, at last I know why some of my leafs won't come out of the booklet. I thought it was my technique!!!!
It just scratches, even if you have bole underneath. The oil and sealer forms a barrier to the bole. So you can't burnish the clay in the bole, which is whats happening when you burnish water gilding.

Beautiful Ruth, I do love angels :)
Love the little Puti, a tree full of them would be delightful

Stunning thank you Ruth

Can you water guild over wood that has been stained a color? Or do you need all of the stain off first?
May I ask how you prepare the compo paste? Could u please make a video about it? Thank you in advance!
Hi, sorry it's something I sell. You can buy it from gold leaf supplies.
